Started my “Fitness Journey” a few months ago with changing my diet and doing boxing a couple times a week. About a month ago started going to the gym and started lifting. Told my wife my goal is not Chris Hemsworth but I wouldnt mind looking more like Chris Pratt in the prison scene in the first Guardians movie. In Feb i was 348lb down to 305.

I really appreciate Adam’s vulnerability in this episode talking about how he hesitated to post the pic where he feels he isn’t as his aesthetic best. The message around what healthy actually looks and feels like is something that is needed more in the fitness space. Everyone thinks the fitness influencers are the picture of health, meanwhile body dysmorphia, disordered eating and no work/life balance is what’s happening behind the reels of shredded physiques.

I admire Adam for having the balls to show himself at his worst and admit when he's been slacking. His self accountability is awesome. Most people today want constant validation for being average to mediocre and never take any accountability or criticism. I know it was hard for him to show it, but it'll teach a valuable lesson to people. 💯

As a therapist I always tell my patients that SSRI’s don’t fix the “problem,” they just buffer the symptoms, and that allows therapy to be more effective. It’s like trying to teach a drowning person to swim; you can’t. So meds are like floaters, now that they can breathe and are no longer drowning “from the symptoms;” they can now learn to swim. Studies also shows that SSRI’s are better than placebo, but not by a lot. Researchers are actually testing Ketamine for depression, which is very interesting.

I discovered you 2 months ago after I had a carpal tunnel surgery on my right hand. Not being able to workout, I walked a lot...hitting more than 55,000 steps on average per day. I was so obsessed by gaining weight that it didn't bother me that my feet hurt like hell. After listening to you I reduced my walking sessions to about 30-33k steps daily. I still can't change my mindset and I'm afraid I'm gonna gain weight. I'm 45, 118lbs and I've been working out for 10 years 6 days per week (lifting, traditional cardio) around 1h30' to 2h on top of walking 3-4h daily. I started training again. I'd like to gain muscle but I'm limited in lifting weights because of my hand. I appreciate your advice and I try to apply everything you recommend but I still have a long way to go. I don't do traditional cardio anymore, so that's a huge change. By the way, I'm following you from Spain. I'm gonna continue listening to you and incorporate little by little more everything you teach us. Thanks!!!!

So true what you guys mentioned regarding the marketing having that influence.... I use to think back on my early 20s that being ripped and si gle digit body fat was the health spot.... And then went to the other extreme of stopping lifting and just focusing on running and dieting..... Now I follow the example that Adam talked about regarding working out by having a balance with his family work etc... And that's definitely more doable and "normal" per se and achievable and enjoyable I believe. And it's great you guys talk about it because of the credibility and knowledge you guys display and portray to us. Thank you.

Considering his profession, Adam should probably learn how to pronounce "windmill." 😂 I'm happy someone asked the last question and Adam gave some great points here. I'm right alongside Sal, having my first child (also a girl) in November. I still get a bit emotional thinking about it. A suspension trainer and a medium-heavy dumbbell can help you achieve a lot. There's so much potential with calisthenics. Also, this is a great opportunity to get kind of creative and innovative with exercises and designating time to get in those workouts. Also, like you guys say, maintenance requires far less than building/burning. :)

I feel like a general movement focus and diversified performance goals are healthy. Let me explain, I will never make the argument that doing marathons are healthy or bodybuilding shows are healthy. But what about doing one or a few of those and periodizing goals and modalities just like you would nutrition or actual training programs? Right now, I’m training for my first figure show, while I know it’s far from the healthiest thing to do, for one, these days there are coaches that promote healthier ways to do this, and after a postseason/recovery time, eventually I would like to do powerlifting, and I’d like to do an athletic-based performance focus on jumping. Again all those things separately are not inherently healthy if you hyper focus on them, but I think the positives outweigh the negatives when you are consistently trying out new activities/approaches/challenges and finding new goals, ones that encompass cardiovascular health, strength, speed, and body composition. So obviously a lot of these things aren’t healthy, but I think a diversified performance and goal portfolio could be generally healthier. @16:00 oh awkward lol

It is annoying when I tell people I don't eat things like potato chips or candy, and lift and do yoga regularly they automatically say I'm some "health nut". No I'm just a dad that wants to do stuff with his kids and not be gassed all the time. Also why is being concerned about your health a negative stigma in our society? This episode absolutely hit the nail on the head, people either see someone like Larry Wheels or Lizzo and are told that both are equally healthy depending what crowd of influencers you listen to.
@samuelloification27492 жыл бұрын
It's annoying but it is just other people's insecurities coming out. I've definitely been that person in the past and when I look back and think, it's just a response to not wanting to confront my own health issues. They don't mean anything by it. Keep doing you man 👌

@@samuelloification2749 oh yeah I was the same way. I thought going to the gym meant doing CrossFit or you wanted to looked like Arnold. But it was my own insecurities and just being hyper defensive. i competed several times and in addition to that I ve dieted to shredded condition several times , since 2019. i can definately confirm that shredded or even too lean, doesnt mean healthy. All my health metrics were shitty, my sleep was non existent, no libido. During those months of dieting or contest preps , i was feeling like shit. both mentally and physically. however, if you know that its sth y do to achieve a specific goal and its not sustainable, then you can reverse in a controlled manner ( although to be honest , its hard to not overeat after such an extreme diet..). the only good thing of such a diet or contest prep is the motivation and the focus y feel, you learn to control yourself and it teaches discipline and hopefully its sth y can carry with y even after the cutting/shredding period

Haven’t figured out quite how to put it phrasing wise, but I’ve always thought we need to stop trying to appeal to a fanatical fitness crowd and sentiment and focus on the people that can do the bare minimum, or maybe eventually more, for the rest of their lives. Again, I need to figure out my marketing 🤔

About the artificial sweeteners/obesity correlation: it's not like obese people have replaced sugar with sweeteners. They do consume a lot of sugar and other stuff
