On the subject of Glock sights. I get why the OEM sights are a source of contention and it used to be for me as well. However, after shooting for several decades now I've settled into particular sights I like, and I try and keep consistent on all of my guns. So, at the end of the day, unless Glock is only going to offer the XS Big Dot sights that I like, I'm going to change them out anyway. In which case I feel much better about throwing those cheap plastic sights back into the case than I do tossing some expensive sights I never wanted.
@AirborneVet

That's how I feel about it. I'd rather have some chintzy sights that didn't add to the cost and are easy to replace than some expensive sights that aren't really what I want.

Half the point of Glock is the grip angle. I hated it when I first bought one coming from Sig FN and the like, but I've found that I'm way better with that angle than any other. Every time I draw I'm on target, instantly and naturally. I love the angle.
@chairmanbrando
@chairmanbrando 2 ай бұрын
I'm not sure I understand the hate on the grip angle either. The idea is it forces your wrist to point more downward to put it more inline with the bones in your arm. More straighter means more soaking up of recoil and less chance of limp-wristing your way into a malfunction. Comfort ain't really a factor in the design.
@iCookCrystalMeth

Not sure why people want the grip angle to change when theres a very large group of people it clearly works for. There are many, many options that are just as good if not better than a glock with differing grip angles.

Gaston knew what he was doing when he built the G17. A newbie will always hate the grip angle of a Glock, most likely disgusted by it but having some ulnar deviation makes you have a stronger grip.

The Shadow Systems love is wild. The mr920 is literally lighter than a stock Glock, less reliable, and none of the upgrades are actually executed in best form.
@jackwicker

They're okay. The features are well executed imo. Mine have been reliable in terms of mean rounds between stoppages aside from a higher rate of parts failures. I have like 18.5k rounds on a DR920. Factory mag catch wore out and stopped retaining magazines at 9.5k, and then locking block pins sheared in two at 11.5k and 14.5k rounds. Really bizarre failures. As far as reliability in terms of stoppage rate it's been comparable or better than my experience with Glonk brand Glonks.

My PD banned them after over a 50% catastrophic failure rate over a dozen guns over 2 years. I followed up with them and they said they had never heard of the issues. Loca PDs to me confirmed they had the same issues, and SS told them “they had never heard of the issues” too. Then they blocked me on IG after they made a post about being approved all over the country, and I said they were banned at my PD. They said “we aren’t aware of being banned at any PDs”. They then attempted to dox me and post my PD name and where I’m from, after googling my name. Then blocked me.

@jackwicker
@jackwicker 2 ай бұрын
@@jamesthrun3211 I believe it. They seem to have a couple problem areas that will fail at a high rate when actually shoot several thousand rounds through them (which tbf 99% of buyers don't do). The magazine release seems to fail pretty frequently and round/bevel off enough that it doesn't retain magazines. I suspect this is due to specifying the polymer for the Magpul mags that the guns ship with rather than OEM Glock mags. They also seem to have a quality control issue with locking block and trigger hinge pins. Reports of walking pins are quite common, and I've had two locking block pins shear in half. In both cases, upon examination, I saw that the little ledges that should be present on the pins where they retain on the slide lock spring had beveled down/rounded off. I think they have a metallurgy/heat treat quality control issue with those pins. It's worth emphasizing that, outside of the three incidents where I had parts actually fail on me, the guns have been perfectly reliable. They just don't seem to hold up to high round counts as well, which Is unfortunate, because the optic mounting system, serrations, and frame features are awesome. I think simply replacing the pins and mag release with OEM Glock would resolve a lot of the issues the pistols tend to have.
@jamesthrun3211
@jamesthrun3211 2 ай бұрын
@@jackwicker trigger were a major failure point. Parts breakage and just weird like failure to reset stuff. Sometimes you could take it apart and put it back together and it’s good. Other times they had to be sent in. All times they were sent in, it was a “new problem they hadn’t seen” so I don’t expect them to change. I expect them to keep being surprised by it happening at an extremely high rate 😂

@armorers_wrench
@armorers_wrench 2 ай бұрын
Yeah so some of those ideas are good but I think gen 6 will come out soon and there might be some flashy marketing about a new grip texture or a new optics mount but the MAIN thing Glock will be changing is they will somehow change the striker design to prevent the addition of a 3d printed auto seer. Glock is a European company at heart and they're already being sued by the State of Illinois because they're easy to convert to a machine pistol. It wouldn't surprise me if whatever they do to prevent full auto makes the trigger "even worse" (I put that in quotes cuz I really don't mind Glock triggers).

Get the sig chassis system away from my beautiful Glocks. Those cause so many issues with reliability, lungevity, rusting etc. the only thing Glock should do is make the plates better, better iron sights, offer different stippling. Flocks are unironically almost perfect, just leave them be.

I’d update the G34 as a 5” slide and typical comp stuff (their performance trigger((or one that actually works)), their OEM magwell, fibre optic sights, extended mag release etc) which both makes it IPSC legal and competitive out of the box. The magwell just clips on so if Standard Optics finally gets ratified you just put it on and your ready to go. And yes the MOS plates need attention too.

I feel that Glock does not have to do very much with the sixth generation, i shoot a Glock 19 mos pretty well with the standard trigger and know a lot of people who do, it comes down to training, Even with companies like Walter, Smith and Wesson, and even Stacatto offering better triggers, grip textures and sights, people still end up changing all those things, I bet even if Glock included all theses thing people would still change em up

Honestly for a gen 6 glock i'd really just like to see a factory raised/rearward extended slide release (like the Kagwerks, so its out of the way for a high support hand position but can still be reached via thumb without compromising grip) plus a slightly wider or different shape mag realease for the same reason, and even more ideally, high texture on the sides and back of the frame, and perhaps some slightly angled texture in a few spots based on what the gun wants to do during strings of fire with sweaty hands? I feel like with how modern and efficient production can be, that shouldn't change the price much. Holster and mag compatibility with gen 5's would be perfect. Keep the same overall profile of the gun and the same mags. Just with ergonomics/grip texture that are polished up so you don't have to change any controls or feel the need to stipple it. Basically a gen 5 that you only decide on your preference for triggers and sights, and whether or not you want slide cuts and a different recoil spring, and roll out with that.

I think I am the only person in the world who likes stock Glock sights, especially since they finally got the dot and U sizes matched up properly. I understand that the durability may be an issue for some-specifically those who like to use the rear sight as a charging handle. As for the front sight, it can wear down during many draws against the holster. But a modern holster with a tall sight channel would pretty much negate that problem. The sight picture itself works great for me, and is fine for hitting someone in the chest at 20 feet. I’ve seen some pretty old Glocks with original sights, so the typical owner isn’t breaking them off, either. My new Gen 5 Glock 22 shot a tiny bit to the right when I first got it, and I realized that the rear sight was slightly off center. But that was easily remedied. Of course, if an optic is going to be fitted, something taller needs to go on anyway, so that is just a non-optic gun problem. As for the MOS, I am running a 509t on mine. I think that a sight such as that doesn’t have a lot of the typical MOS problems. First of all, you are going to be using an aftermarket plate made from better material. Secondly, the plate screws down nice and snug into the slide and then the optic mounts to that by means of a crossbar-type setup, so you’re not likely to shear off any screws. There is no worry about how much thread engagement on the optic’s screws.

How about a normal grip angle? Pretty much the only thing I hate about them. Can deal with the goofy trigger and stock sight / mounting platform (easy enough to mill my optic or replace sights). But I find it a bit hard to go from Glock to any-other-gun due to that grip angle being so deviant from the typical gun (the sig p320 by contrast is a bit to shallow than the typical gun). They could also bend to those who want manual safeties like m&p and p320/365 give you the optio of if you want.

Glock reminds me of Nintendo, loved but has a complete refusal to give customers what they want, even when it would make them a fortune and increase their popularity and overall ownership within the market. I would say for the Gen 6. Its a complete mystery why they would not go to a chassis system, if they did that, fixed the optic situation to be standardized and better and improved the trigger, anything anyone would ever diss the Glock for would be gone. Like the PDP and many cheaper systems already have better triggers better sights and optics cuts and are cheaper with similar reliability. They are losing the game here. I have no idea why the P320 is even liked at all other than its chassis system, Glock could completely blow them out of the water due to its aftermarket support if they had a reliable working chassis system. That plus the improved optics cut and better trigger it would be a no brainer for everyone to own a glock, even the glock haters. But nothing will change much no doubt.

Dumb people keep them, anyone who trains is going to put their own personal sights on it. Don't waste money on something everyone is going to change. XS Sights breathes sigh of relief. Completely redesigned trigger that defeats the switch but is somehow not even as good as the current trigger. Apex will announce aftermarket trigger 28 minutes after new Glock announced.
