I use a reusable pod as well. It does take paper filters but I just feel the paper takes out some bad parts of the coffee that are sticky and could gum up the bod. I can pick any coffee at the market and don't have to limit myself to those overpriced pods.

I especially liked your section about the 'Coffee Golden Rule' because I 3 years ago bought a 4 Cup Mr. Coffee: It's quick, simple, strong coffee and MUCH cheaper than pods. I occasionally also make pour-over coffee or old fashioned percolator, both excellent. Thanks and I like your soft spoken demeanor! 🎉

Appreciate knowing that the 6 oz size cup is the preferred size for using the K-Cups. I have the Keurig supreme plus model and I noticed that the first few drops maybe a tablespoon or less of water is cold so what I have done to get a more concentrated cup is to push the 8 oz size cup however I pour out the first tablespoon of cold plain water that comes out of it. After your video I will try the 6 oz without having to pour out some of the plain water.

Wow!! I learned a lot from your video. I am old school and prefer measuring in ounces over grams.. Other videos indicate that the pods hold 2 tablespoons of coffee - - but like you I love a big cup of coffee, and I usually do this by choosing the 6 oz. setting (my Keurig only has 6 & 8 oz settings), then after brewing, would take out the pod, flip it and tap it, and reinsert it, and press 6 oz. again for 'more' coffee. I usually get an additional 1-2 seconds of dark stream of coffee before quickly swapping full coffee cup with an empty one to catch the remaining stream of coffee - usually all water and very little coffee.... But still cold not figure out why the coffee still did not taste as good as fresh brewed coffee.... Also being a dummy, I would ground my beans very fine - thinking - the finer the grind, the more flavorful the brew - NOT!!! Idea for a video would be (science experiment) to determine how much water should be added to ground coffee beans before you reach diminished returns.... So for 6 oz setting, Water comes out and coffee stream is strong and as more water passes through grounds - the weaker the coffee gets.... Less water - stronger coffee & more water - weaker coffee....Thanks!!!

I just brew two pods and make two 6 oz brew cycles. It’s still cheaper than a cup of coffee at a fast food joint much less your favorite coffee joint. Buying your favorite pods in bulk helps keep the cost to under a $1 for good fresh cup of morning coffee.

@@foreveramber2269 You probably need to descale your Keurig machine. Also certain water brands like Fiji water can clog up Keurig machines and cause users to descale their Keurig machines more often. It could eventually destroy machine overtime and need replacement.

I really enjoyed your video... thank you. I just bought a Keurig K-Cafe Smart coffee maker which offer a few more settings that make all the difference in the world. The machine will let me choose between 5 coffee strengths... what it does is, send the water through the grounds at a slower rate to extract more flavor. So right now, I'm pretty much defaulting to 8 oz coffee sizes but set on the 2nd strongest brew setting. The downside is it takes a little bit longer to finish... not much longer but a little bit. The upside is I can pull 8 oz's out without a loss of flavor or without that watered down taste. If I want to go larger, I can go 12 oz's (2 pods) and if I want a grande coffee, I can go 16 oz (2 pods set to 8 oz on the 2nd highest brew strength setting) all without a loss of flavor. So those are pretty much my "clean" options 6 oz, 8 oz, 12 oz, 16 oz. I suppose I could pull a 14 oz if I needed to... mixing a 6 oz and an 8 oz (set with more brew strength) but why go wonky like that. 12 oz & 16 oz sizes that taste just as good as a 6 oz is plenty fine with me.

@mpohlman7924 ай бұрын
There is another option, if your k cup has a strong setting. This slows down the water going through the cup. This extracts more coffee flavor from the grounds and doesn't take that much longer to brew your cup of coffee. Easy solution.

Thanks for the video. What I’ve learned hear reinforces what I have learned elsewhere on KZbin, these one cup convenience brewers do not make good coffee - they only make fast coffee and are very expensive per brew especially when you factor in the waste of the disposable pods. I really love my simple inexpensive drip coffee maker. I just had to replace the one I bought 30 years ago for $25 with a new one that brews twice as fast for $40. I love my coffee - but its only coffee.

We were very aware that our new Keurig was giving us watered down coffee...very disapointing! So, I put regular grond coffee through my coffee grinder on the finest setting thinking it would make it stronger. It did make a noticeable difference. However, the water compacted the finer grind resulting in water overflow leaving sludge and grounds in the cup. Next, I tried putting a small square of paper towel over the pod before closing the lid. That successfully solved the overflow problem, but, the grounds are compacted so hard inside the pod, scraping and cleaning it out, is a major job! Way to much work for a cup of coffee! We have tried 3 different brands of coffee and so far Maxwell House on the 8 ounce setting is acceptable, but I think a stronger brand is my next move. Bulk Barn has some nice choices. Thanks for your video!

Use a plain white coffee cup & watch the water stream into the cup. The initial stream is clear water for about a second which quickly becomes a dark coffee color which is the good flavorful coffee; but then the final blast is clear water again making the coffee weak. This occurs on all sizes. I pull the cup out before the final blast & catch it in another cup. I experimented a lot with reusable cups but even the k-cups taste watered down. Between the k-cups & the dumped coffee, it's all too wasteful. It is possible that the water temp. is not getting hot enough so thank you for that which is a good point too.

I think the key is a darker roast. I use 8-10 oz of water and have a nice strong taste
@latachia_2981 Жыл бұрын
You are correct, it depends what kind of coffee you use, I also use the 8 oz & my husband uses the 10 ounce, setting & our coffee is perfect every morning. We like the Columbian blend coffee. I've been using a Keurig ever since thry first came out.I love them. I used to break the caraffes on the other coffee makers & waste a lot of coffee, because, a lot of times by the time I got to the last cup of the morning, it tasted like it was burnt, from the coffee pot sitting there for a while.So I ended up throwing it out. With the Keurig, every cup of coffee you make is fresh. On the coffee can it says to put coffe in the Fridge, when not in use. It does keep your coffee fresh when you do that. I discovered that on the can just a couple of years ago, so I tried it & it does make a big difference. We can drink up a can of coffee , with out it going bad.

Yeah if you're buying K-Cups you need to look at the net content on the box I usually get them between the 11.5 to 12.5 grams( I have verified that that is actually what's in them as well) also I'm sure you know by now but that is probably the worst reusable cup you could have bought the original Universal and the Now new Universal reusable K-Cup can easily hold 15 G of coffee😊 at the 6 oz of water setting. they do have the travel size K-Cups that usually hold 15 to 17 G but again this would only be good in my opinion for eight oz of water

Using a reusable K-cup isn’t there another brewing option when grinding whole bean coffee; it follows, instead of grinding coffee to medium-fine grind why not use fine ground setting grinder setting; as a result, slow the brew water flow through the reusable cup coffee grounds--possibly a stronger finished brew?
@davidw5416 Жыл бұрын
the thing is for a regular drip coffee maker you use even less of a ratio of coffee to water unless you use slightly over 1/2 cup of coffee per pot and who does that? I like the Keurig for the quick one cup convenience even though it might be slightly watered down just use a stronger or bold flavor coffee.
@davidwilcox9110 Жыл бұрын
I use the JavaJig and Starbucks Morning Joe ground coffee. I pack all the coffee I can into the JavaJig and have my new Keurig machine set for hottest and strongest. My 8 ounce cup of coffee morning is just about right. I agree that most already packed coffee pods make weak coffee. You lose a lot for convenience. I still can make a great cup of coffee with my $2.00 Mr. Coffee 4 cup resale store machine or my portable coffee percolator that I have travelled with for 30 years. They both allow extra ground coffee for a stronger cup of coffee.

I’ve always brewed 2, 6oz with reusable pods, when using a Kerig. It’s become more important to quality check my roasts as of lately since I started a specialty coffee business. ( I want the coffee to taste better even if the brew method is subpar.) Great video. I think I’ve managed 16grams but too much and it’s a messy cup.
@captaceospades09873 жыл бұрын
I’ve also noticed that if I adjust the grind a little finer the profiles are enhanced.
@garnettbrown2 жыл бұрын
Your correct when using coffee pods. It's better to brew at the proper ratio of coffee to water per cup rather than stretch out the coffee with more water, making a weaker watered down coffee.

Optimal flow and saturation are other factors involved. Thanks for the video

Wish my Keurig had a 6oz setting. Mine has 8, 10 and 12 oz options only. The 8 oz setting actually puts out 10 oz of water and the coffee is so watery no way to drink it. Keurig set me another machine for free but that one is exactly the same. I’m stuck with an unusable machine. Have you measured the amount of water your Keurig actually uses on each setting? I’d like to buy a better Keurig but afraid it might be the same..

Thanks Joe! I love a dark roast just plain, no cream or sugar, just coffee. I always use two k-cup pods with 6 ozs each for a real coffee taste. It was just instinctual or taste that guided me. Thank you for confirming it for me. Great channel!

We do not have control over how many grams mfrs k-pods weigh, so it seems a moot point. Instead consider a smaller coffee/water ratio, like 6 oz. Cup instead of 8 ozs

or you can get the dark or robust pods and keep using your 10oz button. The extra water dilutes it just fine.

Quit buying Keurig's years ago. Bought two, and each one broke in less than a year, always leaking water. Purchased a Bunn My Cafe MCU. Keeps a reservoir of hot water available at all times. No measuring needed put fresh water in the cup you drink from (measure water to your taste) pour your cold water in the top, and what you put in is what comes out, and with the hot water already in the reservoir it immediately dispenses. Takes K Cups, Pods, Ground Coffee it is excellent. Bye Keurig nice knowing ya.

@@joepicksjoe2386 I had a Keurig 2.0 but it leaked from inside and out of the bottom, bought the K classic.... sucks... no strong brew button!! 6 oz won't be enough for me.not gonna use 4 pods a day for sure. I really liked the 10 oz strong cup by Keurig 2.0.

Do some have no filter in the reservoir? Mine is just a reservoir without it.
@latachia_2981 Жыл бұрын
I've had 3 of them & they all came with the filter in them. I'd go back to the store & see if the other ones have them or not. If they do, then ask them for a different coffee maker. or a filter. But, on the other hand, you can buy them on line. They might even have them at Walmart or Target for a cheaper price,

I looks like the refillable uses less coffee. it looks like you crammed that coffee in there, which will cause spillage. The best coffee needs looser grounds. Also, the cup is going to hold less coffee because of the amount of space removed to make room for the puncture needle.

I’ve had so many keurig systems, from different stores (Costco, target, bed bath) also returned and exchanged. Coffee always turns out watery and metallic taste and I always use 6oz to be able to get a “dark” roast but it always turns out water down. I would just “live with it” by just adding creamer.

My K-Duo Plus has 8/10/12 oz. They should all have 6 oz in case you want to use k-cups and not be watered down. I do 8 oz and use 16g of coffee in my reusable cup.

Nespresso Vertuo capsules also produce watered down coffee. That is how these companies make money since coffee is expensive to source. So the less they use the more money left on the table.
