How extraordinary Alfons - starting with the left foot it wouldn't slip and I thought it was the fault of the carpet. Then I tried with the right foot and it slipped perfectly, I thought I must be on a worn bit of carpet! but no, wherever I was the right foot slipped smoothly and the left juddered or needed a big push. I can't believe it!! I don't know why yet - will have to keep exploring!! Thanking you again for your wonderful teaching. Am going to share this one with friends!

I usually do my somatic movement barefoot but wearing socks for this lesson made an enormous difference! I’m recovering from a misalignment of my right talus bone and my whole right leg is a bit swollen from my ankle up through my knee and even into my hip. I was curious how my right leg would change throughout the lesson. It will come as no surprise that my swelling is down, and I had significant improvement in the easily-available range of motion my ankle and my knee, and a sense of greater freedom in my right hip and lower back. What a wonderful experience! Thank you Alfons!

I'm not sure if this will make sense, but this reminds me a bit of how some manual therapists approach working on clients. They connect to the client and move their foot, ankle, knee, hip, skin, fascia, muscles, bones while listening to were there is resistance, where there is a lack of it etc etc.

I love this gentle movement. Both lega moving together was definitely more of a challenge. Thank you 😀

Wow. Apparently everyone has different experiences. My left knee (it was supposed to be replaced 10 years ago, so it is a wreck) was really struggling with every movement. The hip joint tired so quickly that I had to take a lot of breaks. The better, right knee took a lot more support from the hip, as if the injured knee side had become stupid after decades of fearful movement. The broken-knee side then learned a few tricks from the healthier side and that was a good thing. In general, my room is not as Feldenkrais-friendly as the wonderful Alfons carpet. I have a non-slip yoga mat on the wooden floor and no foot in the world can slide on it. So I moved left, right, back and forth on the mat so that gliding then takes place on the wooden floor. Thanks Alfons, I am now doing the other knee lessons one after the other and am wondering once again why the miracle weapon Feldenkrais is not much more popular.

"...where...even the berries of your toes touch the floor." This delivered great delight; I hadn't ever heard toe bottoms called berries (only cat toes, someone told me once), and I liked the berry thing and instantly prefer it to any other imagery for placing my feet in a healthy way. Ty.

I watched your video at lunchtime, and before dinner I started my exploration (part 1): I slid my left foot across the area I could, stretching the tip of my toes to reach as far as possible while keeping the sole of my foot entirely on the ground. I stopped and compared the two bent legs: the left one felt bigger, stronger. I shall continue my exploration throughout the weekend. TY for now.

I so appreciate your teaching and always find a dramatic difference at the end of every session - until this one! I found a slight change. I imagine the answer is to repeat this session a few times. I'm having issues with my knees (with age the tendons of my rectus femoris seem to be getting unGodly tight), so not surprising, I guess.

My feet don't slide across the floor if barefoot. If I shift the weight to the hip, then the leg and foot are completely free and can slide easily. Does it end up being a different exploration? Do you need to wear socks to perform this session?

Great questions! You’re doing great! Thank you for your feedback and sharing 🌷 My 2 cents: If your feet don’t slide then one of the goals is to know whether the cause is the sticky floor or the “sticky” body. Or how many percent each area is contributing. To improve the ability to sense, to discern, to judge, to observe, to feel joy and serenity 😄

Is that a tatamikids mat? Was thinking of one for yoga but wondering if they are too thick.
@ImprovingAbility

These are 4 thin mats stacked on top of each other. I got them as a present from a Japanese client. I don’t know how they are called or where to buy them, but definitely happy to have them. Otherwise I would have had to buy a nice rug at a good furniture store.
