Thanks for the tip. I bought two controllers last fall and used them for barely a month and the drift problem started for both controllers. The reset button worked fine for one and for the other was the 30-5↩-5↪-30. Both controllers are back at 100. Test ran them on Outer Worlds. Now im not fighting against my guy running towards the left while looking up by himself. Cheers again!

Its all pretty easy actually. Have opened up my controller more then ones to replace bits in it. There are no attempts made what so ever to make it difficult for people to do so. Yes offcourse its all a tight fit, everything is small and close together but you don't want a bulky controller neither. Hope they keep doing that for the PS5.

I have 2 ps4 dualshock controllers, one was moving the target suddenly left by itself a few times in every match and the other was skipping frames(felt like lagging) everytime i turned my player left or right playing multiplayer Call Of Duty. At first i thought i had a network issue and i was about to buy a new router until i sampled upon this video. I tried this method and magically all my issues were fixed. The only different i did was that before i start doing this procedure i cleaned with rubbing alcohol the base of the L3/R3 thumbsticks and blow some air inside them and also after i finished this prosedure i blew some air inside the thumbsticks pushing them down at the same time. Now my controllers feel like new. Thank you John for sharing this video, you really saved me some money!!!!

Controller sticks always have some extremely tiny variances of their "neutral" position. Manufacturing is never 100% perfect but is (or should be) 99.99% perfect, and of course wear and tear over time. By tiny variances, I mean something like 3% drift from true center (0%). Vast majority of games never start their dead zone at 0% so we never notice. Games like Borderlands 3 that let us adjust this down to 0% in the game's settings can let you know if your stick actually has drifting. My God of War edition controller drifts a very, very tiny bit :(

Thanks pal, you saved me 70 bucks.. I tried this video first and the calibration didn’t work.. I also tried the cleaning method, and it didn’t work either; but this time because I cleaned the wrong sensor. I waited many months for the sensor replacement, and I used your other video as a guide, when I finallly put the generic replacements, I found that I had cleaned the wrong sensor last time, and also found the root cause; there was a metallic residue, like a very thin metallic sheet that probably detached from the horizontal sensor, and it was causing interference; I tried the generic replacements, they worked but they have a small displacement, same rate on both axis; I put back both original sensors, and since I had already removed the small metallic sheet, I worked perfectly. Thank you, I did it for fun, learned a bit and saved 70 bucks

I also had another issue.. the first time I opened the controller, i disconnected the white laminar cable with the plastic white connector to the motherboard… this caused a lot of panic on me, and lager it was difficult to put it back… I thought I had damaged the cable, and ordered a replacement; and changed it when I did the sensor procedure; then I found that I was placing the white plastic connector the other way around… finally found I could have just solved everything the first time if I had cleaned the right sensor.. thanks again

The clicking and constant rotation of the stick with drift actually works. Rotate and click that stick for 30 sec (2x) D-pad you open the controller and just rotate the white silicone piece to a different position.

The best way to fix it is to take the analogue stick apart and just clean inside the green cage (black ring) thing with alcohol. Worked for me and my controller is just over a year old.

Fixes DO NOT WORK ALMOST AT ALL! Here’s a suggestion for someone who’s bought 10 controllers and knows a lot about consoles..... get a silicon cover for your controller..... and wash your hands before you play your games and if you decide to eat or whatever do NOT touch your controller until you rewatch your hands. The grease and sweat is what causes stick drift, the silicon cover stops your hands from getting sweaty and soaks up excess sweat, and also washing your hands also stops greasy hands and sweat from ruining your controller. I went from buying a new controller every like 3-4 months to having my controller for the past 1 year or more AND it still looks brand new and works PERFECTLY.

What's worst is that his tradition is eating food without cutlery so with just his hand. So frustrated that this problem popped up 6 months after I bought my PS4. Never ever had any issues with my PS3 or PS2 controllers (which I still have and that are still in perfect condition). Did not want to splurge on a new controller so I just put up with drifting and eventually stopped playing all together. So happy I can finally enjoy my games again 🥰

I got two controllers with my ps4. the black one seems fine til you're playing any game that requires RS lookaround, and then occasionally my player will turn left on its own. the gold one is a little more janky and has a similar problem but with the LS movement, which is required even in menu navigation, and this one forces my cursor to the top of my screen no matter what I do. however, I now have an unwanted auto-walk feature. I just tried the reset button and calibration techniques on both controllers and I'll update with results as soon as I see them.

I’m hoping one day in the future we have controllers that are more customizable and less faulty. I like everything about the Xbox one controller most leave the triggers in the left stick placement being up in the depad down. Controllers from a third-party Company have flaws in fact there are more flaws in those third-party controllers that they break and have more problems quicker than the official PS4 or Xbox one controllers. So I am hoping that one day PlayStation or Xbox will provide more options on our website for making a personalized controller or something like that.

You don't have to replace the whole joystick sensor. You simply can just clean the copper inside it and it'll work 100%

It depends on how much it was used. If it was heavily used the contacts can bend out of true and the only way to get them exact is to buy a new sensor plate.
