"Sir. Imagine you are in the driver’s seat of a car. You have been sitting there so long that you have forgotten that it is the seat of a car, forgotten how to get out of the seat, forgotten the existence of your own legs, indeed forgotten that you are a being at all separate from the car. You control the car with skill and precision, driving it wherever you wish to go, manipulating the headlights and the windshield wipers and the stereo and the air conditioning, and you pronounce yourself a great master. But there are paths you cannot travel, because there are no roads to them, and you long to run through the forest, or swim in the river, or climb the high mountains. A line of prophets who have come before you tell you that the secret to these forbidden mysteries is an ancient and terrible skill called GETTING OUT OF THE CAR, and you resolve to learn this skill. You try every button on the dashboard, but none of them is the button for GETTING OUT OF THE CAR. You drive all of the highways and byways of the earth, but you cannot reach GETTING OUT OF THE CAR, for it is not a place on a highway. The prophets tell you GETTING OUT OF THE CAR is something fundamentally different than anything you have done thus far, but to you this means ever sillier extremities: driving backwards, driving with the headlights on in the glare of noon, driving into ditches on purpose, but none of these reveal the secret of GETTING OUT OF THE CAR. The prophets tell you it is easy; indeed, it is the easiest thing you have ever done. You have traveled the Pan-American Highway from the boreal pole to the Darien Gap, you have crossed Route 66 in the dead heat of summer, you have outrun cop cars at 160 mph and survived, and GETTING OUT OF THE CAR is easier than any of them, the easiest thing you can imagine, closer to you than the veins in your head, but still the secret is obscure to you.” A herd of bison came into listen, and voles and squirrels and ermine and great tusked deer gathered round to hear as the bat continued his sermon. “And finally you drive to the top of the highest peak and you find a sage, and you ask him what series of buttons on the dashboard you have to press to get out of the car. And he tells you that it’s not about pressing buttons on the dashboard and you just need to GET OUT OF THE CAR. And you say okay, fine, but what series of buttons will lead to you getting out of the car, and he says no, really, you need to stop thinking about dashboard buttons and GET OUT OF THE CAR. And you tell him maybe if the sage helps you change your oil or rotates your tires or something then it will improve your driving to the point where getting out of the car will be a cinch after that, and he tells you it has nothing to do with how rotated your tires are and you just need to GET OUT OF THE CAR, and so you call him a moron and drive away.”

The conversations between the two of you are very insightful. I’ve been on what i been calling a spiritual awakening. But everything y’all say, matches everything i been saying for a while now. I’ve had some pretty intense experiences in my growth or awakening, but since not very many experience it, most others tend to think its silly. But everything y’all have said has been very spot on from my own experience. I appreciate y’all guys.

Thank you, Z Dogg, M. D. You’re brilliant and entertaining and you also led me to Angelo…. Thanks always, AD M.D. Several months ago, I was fortunate enough to watch one of your videos where you pointed out the non-duality of the visual field. Even though I had been seeking for many many years, that was the biggest breakthrough I’d had to that point. The seeing was immediate, and the impact was huge. I thought I had lost it a few times, and despaired, but now I see clearly that I just had to go through the process of integrating the shadow material. (Just like you said). I can’t say where I am now. As far as being in any sort of process. Or for that matter, having any sort of position. Or for that matter, I don’t know what being is anymore. Anyway, I love listening to you both. I am super grateful. No one would have ever described this character (or action figure as Paul Hedderman would say) as “laid back.” More like, neurotic, anxious, paranoid, controlling…. But as it says in the Big Book of AA, I have ceased fighting anyone or anything. Peace to you, my brothers. Peace be upon the troubled waters of “seeking.” Peace be upon the bottomless pit of “knowing.” Peace to all particulars. This is this. This is Choiceless Love for All. ❤

hearing, “...and it’s not a ‘you’ that’s stopping; it’s just stopping...” (around 38:16), made me wish to add: it’s a stopping of being you. i see it like this: what makes you ‘you’ is a like an interlinked network of thoughts. let’s say that along with keeping that network active, the filter is kept active-the filter, ie, which we are playing with turning off. I can divine two ways, at least, of effecting a ‘turning off’ of the network of thoughts that is ‘you’. one, presume that there is some part of your thinking that is devoted to maintaining ‘you’, and with that presumption, see if you can observe *that* this maintaining of ‘you’ is happening. two, presume that you have absolute command over consciousness, and with that presumption, see if you can simply do it. (this second way may lead to the astonishing discovery that much more is possible in consciousness than you ever could’ve imagined, but you simply never played with consciousness to see what it can do).

Thank you so much for these talks-mindboggling and rightly so, as it leaves a space with the mind out of the way. There is an ancient Hindu saying in Sanskrit that translates as, 'Liberation(Moksha) is in subtlety(Sukshma)'. The 2D nature of reality you were talking about reminded me about a talk where Buddhist monks described life as a tapestry.... You look at it from so many angles and dispel any myths about what it is all about. I feel, it's as if you have set off a deep resonance within me which would only occur, according to the laws of physics, if our frequencies matched, I suppose! I truly am so grateful for the wonderful pointers that make me pause and look beyond the pointing.

I am learning more and more. I started going this path like 3 or 4 years ago. Started meditating, having really unexplainable experiments etc. I did not have any shift till now, I believe. But since 1 or 2 years I am having a strong tinnitus. Never had problems with this before. Nada sound, interesting. Thank you. I also have something very weired, and I have not found anyone else that is experiencing this: There are those ChiGong Balls, that make this sound. For all my life either when I am falling asleep or waking up, I have got this sound, these Bells in my ears. Like popping bubbles but in the sound of those chigong balls. Did anyone else ever hear this? I am having this every time.

I do so much work with sound because I find it such a good meditation object. Next, I'd like to work with vision but I find it so much harder to work with for some reason.

The whole experience of this has been a dissolving into being. The tinnitus has been ever present for so long now (can’t really remember when (I) became conscious of it) As I was watching the screen on my phone the images became somewhat translucent and again a dissolving into the experience. Sound and visual became one. This is very hard to put into words but it was subtle and sublime. Thank you for your work together and sharing with us all. This is such a heartening experience. “what was my face before my parents were born” there is always great joy and mirth in my heart each time I hear/think of this. Thank you♥️

Your description of senses and Gate is pristine. Only one thing might be confusing for people who watch is the description of looking and hearing as a “practice” which in view here, it is not. Very simply looking and hearing are receptive, passive, (they’re already the case) no efforts are necessary from a ‘you’ to see or hear. In a practice there is a subtle ‘you’, someone looking FOR something, an ‘I’ involved. And, no ‘you’ ever makes it through the Gate. Just a thought 😉

I find some of this so confusing. How would these senses not have filters? They’re nothing but filters. Our eyes don’t see “reality”, they see certain wavelengths, etc. Cats don’t see what we see. Same with hear, smelling, etc. Aside from the next step of the mind interpreting things, Our senses filter the external world.

17 years ago after months of ego death I realized as I was looking into the darkness at midnight, I'm looking into infinity. Everything in the center of my visual field had static like an old TV pixelated look to it. I just figured it was another way I had gone completely cuckoo. Ha Seems like I should extend my focus on that a little every day until I lose my sense of separation from the objective visual field?

I've heard the buzzing/hum for as long as I can remember. I've always had to sleep with a fan on or some other white noise to somewhat counteract it. When it's quiet the sound gets extremely loud. I always hear it. It never totally goes away. It seems like a pitch that's so high that it can't be produced by any object or being. I've been wondering lately if it's some feature of reality that gets passed off as a disease or disability.

I’ll say it here a bit differently than I did in another one of these videos. Non-dual understanding without a solid grounding in deep psychological introspection and development leads to gross oversimplification. It also leads to spiritual bypass. Just one example: “Thoughts aren’t the problem” is entirely wrong. We can learn to create space from both rational and irrational thoughts. But once we’re out of a non-dual space, irrationality continues to thrive. Meditation DOES NOT “dissolve” beliefs. Challenging, reframing, and re-engaging through authentic emotional intelligence “dissolves” irrationality.

Not 20 minutes into it… You guys are talking about tinnitus and the fact that it’s always there… The sound… And through the process of adjusting to the sound unfiltered it just becomes apparent. That’s just my intro comment I hate when I do that. The impulse to comment came because one of my favorite songs (of the millions of my favorites:) speaks of this, or at least it seems so to me!!! It’s an old hymn called This is my Fathers world. The whole song I think really speaks of opening the sense gates … which I would not have described that way before hearing you speak of it. I probably would’ve said it speaks to resting (abiding) here. Went off on a tangent again… 🤓😐😐 Anywho there is a line in the song referencing “the music of the spheres” and I always imagined that at some future time I would be hearing angelic music or voices or whatever, and Hearing you say this noise is literally always present… From where I’m standing it seems just as accurate to call tinnitus “music of the spheres :)) - either way 👏👏👏🙏🥰 but especially so for me because I don’t know if it’s like this always but at this point I hear in what feels like a spherical shape but “Tinnitus” is probably less socially awkward lol! Loving the conversations you guys record! 🌊🙏🙏💕

I love how Z has fun with this man, but I do not. He doesn't present his ideas in an honest way. He uses hypnosis and NLP techniques to soften his audience to accept his ideas or suggestions. And his message is very much that of an authoritarian... but his "higher authority is in control of you" rhetoric is wrapped in language that's seemingly apolitical. I dread these episodes because I've caught a lot of this anti human-agency messaging from this man. It's not only him, either. A lot of rhetoric around consciousness, that's promoted by social media platforms today, is saturated by messages about escaping reality & discounting agency/free will. Consciousness is a political issue. I'm worried about @ZDoggMD and his fans.
