Interesting talk. I’ve been reading, studying and following Ramana, Nisagardatta, Fred Davis, Gangaji, Tony Parsons, Rupert etc for 10 years. Angelo recently came suggested to me and I’m so grateful. My search has had some fruits, peak experiences etc but mostly it’s been fraught with 44 years of suicidality, depression, anxiety and fear. Doing this by myself has been treacherous when KZbin and books are the non engaging teachers. I’ve given up a few times but once you’re on this path there’s no turning back. I’d be back watching videos, practicing etc the very next morning. Buddha said death is a heavenly messenger. I concur. I’m so over it all. 52 years old, 10 years sober using 12 step method for that and joy, happiness and most any good feelings elude me. Add to the Catholic school which programmed severe fear of god, horrendous guilt and unbearable shame that follows me everywhere. Dear god help me because I can’t seem to help myself, especially since there isn’t one anyway and all my suffering is imaginary anyway, although it doesn’t f**king feel imaginary.

I am not “awake” by this definition (and anytime I get a touch of it I start having panic attacks), but the last time I was tuned to it I got this sense that the isolated consciousness we experience was a total accident of evolution. We are supposed to be open to the “now” experience but early modern humans were so driven by isolation and fear that we miraculously changed the planet to expand our survival and that part of us continued to evolve. Now that we’re reaching peak survival, we are coming back around to the now experience since it’s the last bit of suffering in our existence.

Live life, notice your ego doing something incongruent, think about the root cause, do better next time. Your comments about internal family structure, is gold. I had so much resistance in my energy body And it overwhelmed my physical body and nerves for years before getting triggered to wake up. The person that triggered my awakening was Amanda Flaker. After that I went through many teachers and gurus until I found my intense Hindu guru in November 2017. I had an awaking experience after listening to a meditation by Ekhart Tolle a few years back...the kind where you are able to connect with inner stillness and allow the narrative self to dissolve. I had never meditated. I was just having a stressful day at work and decided to try to listen to something at my desk that might calm me down. Man was I suprised when suddenly the "self" dissolved! I felt like a newborn for a few weeks after. Everything felt light and new. Colors were brighter and more vibrant. I felt a sense of love and connectedness with every one and every thing (especially plants for some strange reason lol). But it eventually faded and the narrative self came back online. The meditation that triggered the disillusion was taken down from KZbin unfortunately. I would love to be able to listen to it again! I wrote about the experience in a few comment sections online. I should have journaled about it also. At the time I thought these new insights would never fade...but now it's fuzzy. Like a dream you can try to retell but no longer REALLY remember. I should of continued on the path while I was primed...but life got in the way like it does. I'm looking forward to listening to this! If I find insights, hopefully I'll know better what to do with them this time. :)

Don't worry, that's a common thing, for the mind to come back in and take over. You are still awakened, you just need to do more self-inquiry. You will get there. You've cracked open and now the light will start pouring in. Keep abiding in the present with awareness. Dillulo talks about things to do after awakening. There is an integration process, more "work" lol, to get rid of mental conditioning. Keep going!

I tried to read "A New Earth" years ago and was like, "What the heck is he even talking about?" Then I awakened in 2017. I read the book again in 2020 (during the pandemic) and it was AMAZINGLY CLEAR! When you're ready, you're ready. Something happens that just triggers a realization that you are more than this physical body. I'm not talking about just being told by your church that you're a soul and you just believe it because you've always been told that. When you awaken, you KNOW you always have been more than this physical body and you always will be. Important loved ones' deaths have been the catalysts for my awakening.

@@bbearsmama Hi Pammy, I think the problem my wife and I have with this “awakening” thing is, it’s the thought process of those of us with the privilege. I’m pretty sure those that lived 100 years ago or those in our current day in extreme poverty don’t have the time to even contemplate “awakening”. Not that long ago most of our energy we expended was just trying to get light. Now we walk in a room and flick a switch or turn on our phone flash light. Please don’t take this personally.😀
@bbearsmama3 жыл бұрын
@@c5jp904 -I completely agree! A person needs a sort of “lull” in life to even have a few minutes to reflect on anything. I think that may be why it often happens when someone is in the midst of suffering. Something may have occurred that throws one’s life out of balance and you just start questioning everything. When I was younger and raising little kids and working full-time-I barely had time to contemplate what was for dinner, much less the nature of reality. My mom has been awakened since I was 9 or 10. I always knew her belief about us being eternal and reincarnating but I never thought much or even cared much about it all. Life experiences and age has been a part of the process for me. I can now look back on how my life has unfolded and see that God had a hand in all of it. There have been so many “coincidences” that have occurred. It’s funny because I’ve been to listen to a few spiritual people speak and the crowd is overwhelmingly middle-aged or older. However, there’s something unique about kids in their twenties right now. They seem more aware of our true nature. So much of my generation has been indoctrinated with the rules of religion.
@raulomshankar3 жыл бұрын
@@bbearsmama I can understand why this is true for western societies because from a very long time the key focus has been material improvement in life. However, it's quite the opposite in India (or at least used to be). Irrespective of your quality of life, achieving 'awakening' has always been discussed /taught /understood as the main goal for any human. And I also agree to your last point that there have been a few generations that focused more on well-being rather than spiritual pursuit and younger people are moving back in that direction, and most likely foreign invasions eroded the culture to some extent and that's the reason why it happened. But, in all generations, there have been 'awake' people, or people who went much beyond that and they didn't necessarily come from a position of privilege. Some were poor and still pursued spiritual path. And the reasons relate to a lot of things are already described in several scriptures, whether it's karma, rebirth, yugas, etc. But that will be a different discussion altogether. ☺️

I appreciate that you are now speaking on this most timely subject. This is a time of transition in the human consciousness. In the yugas cycle we are transitioning from the lower Kali Yuga into the higher satya yugaor if you prefer the zodiac age of Aquarius or the Mayan calendar also marks this time as well as many others all related to the cyclical 26000 year precession of the equinoxes. Literally our world is changing and it will cause our consciousness to change as well into a higher state of consciousness. We must understand that consciousness is fundamental. Consciousness is defined in terms of information in the same way matter is defined in mass and energy in joules. It is the spiritual understanding that consciousness creates the universe not the other way around of the materialist view of the universe creating consciousness. We are in a lower state of materialistic consciousness of the kali yugas but will ascend to a higher state of consciousness into the new age. It is fine and well to say that one is just a detached viewer of the world or maybe connected into a collective consciousness, but I think many enlightened teachers speak of the non dualistic middle way merging the self with the collective consciousness as one. I don’t think that this awakening you discuss is actually awakening I think a better way to look at all of this is to look at this in terms of the kundalini energy or spirit and the various chakras representing different states of consciousness and energy flow from the root up to the ascendant crown chakras. it is hard for some to consider us as spiritual beings but when you think of the fundamental nature of consciousness then really there is no other way. As Neils Bohr said everything that we call real is made of things that cannot be regarded as real.

Once you wake up, you’ll never be able to go back to who you were before. That can be scary, especially when you wake up earlier than others and also when you have dedicated years of your life in the healthcare industry. It’s the most bizarre feeling I have ever experienced. It has changed my life as a RN. I am so excited to hear more professionals are waking up.

Finding compassion and patience with those who disagree/dismiss the whole idea of an awakening is imperative. You cannot shake anyone else awake. They will do it on their own when their soul is ready or they may never wake up. It’s not our job to wake them up. BUT, I would say, it is our duty to meet them with empathy and compassion when they do. That is why some wake up earlier than others. It’s like a relay race and we pass the baton to the next person.

~amazing how an anesthesiologist doctor who puts you to sleep that can also awaken you as well~what a contrast indeed~I get every point Dr Angelo hits on as I had two as one was in the Navy during a Black Operation and the other was 10 years after that and knows what he is talking about that fear of the point of no return where he was teetering~as during my second awakening I felt that my third eye chakra was opening and a tremendous sense of balance was being achieved but I freaked out and at that time I "thought" I was going to levitate and aborted that episode in my life and for the next 3 days after I felt I was in a real weird reality horror show with my mind~after the third day it went a way but so was that awakened feeling~I do know something about this right before it happens~your whole being comes to a complete calm and feels like something is being lifted off you that now you can see better in awareness and you start living every single moment into the next intuitively and the direction you are heading is so deep within yourself and not out~the river is flowing back to its Source another words~good video and probably get his book as well~thanks for this video~_/|\_~Namaste~

It should be noted the father of Mindful meditation in the US making it "main stream" is Dr. Jon Kabat-Zinn, and I found his book "Wherever You Go, There You Are" the best thing I have read on pragmatic no hocus pocus approach to living in the now and highly recommended. Dr Z needs to have him on as a guest asap. I will look into Angelo's work for sure after viewing this.

Zdogg thank you for talking about this.. Throughout my life I remember having these random, quick experiences that I've tried asking people about that I didn't know what they were and being treated like a crazy person.. These were awakened experiences. Just random like out of body experiences that I feel so small, yet so big, so insignificant yet part of something gargantuan.. Until I found you and your channel and your show I didn't know what they were.. I thought I was like haven't mental episodes and that thought was scary.. I can't force myself into these mental experiences but they're so beautiful and I can't wait to read this book.

Awesome! Somewhere in this series, I can’t remember whether it’s in this video or later, I talk about how I often just chat with people until they start to recognize that what I’m pointing to has already been showing itself in their life, they simply have had no context for what it was. Then I point to it and say,, “yes, that! You can orient to that, trust it and open to it, you won’t believe where it leads :)” I also address this in the book in several places. Happy Travels. 🦋

Really enjoyed this first video, of hopefully many, in your new serious on awakening. I’m genuinely glad, as an Orthodox Christian, I checked out Angelo’s book on Amazon. Seriously. I just want to say it here in the youtube-verse that this book can be utilized by anyone, without needing any kind of background in any religious, spiritual, or meditative studies/practices. I shared in Locals recently that reading this book, for me, has felt like having a conversation w/ an old friend in the corner of a coffee shop where everything else just kinda disappears, and you are totally engaged and captivated by what he is saying to you! I actually just finished reading the chapter on Attention today & wanted to share a quote towards the end of that chapter that really resonated with me today: “Moreover, if we don’t mindfully utilize this power we have to modulate our attention, our attention will, by default, remain in thought throughout most of our waking hours.” -Awake: It's Your Turn by Angelo Dilullo Duuuuuude... ☺️ I love that!

@@sad1th -I've been where you are. I spent so much of my life going from church to church and trying to find one that didn't feel like the opposite of what I intuitvely knew was God. Every church I tried gave me this "bad feeling" in my gut when they would start to preach what I perceived to be unloving toward people who are different (because of sexual orientation or religion). Have you read any accounts of people's near-death experiences? They are fascinating and are amazingly similar regardless of one's religious (or lack thereof) beliefs. I awakened in 2017. It's not "buying into" a theology. It literally is a *realization*. You look back on your life and see all of these little glimpses that God/the Universe/Source Energy has been trying to show you to get you to wake up to His true message: we are one and we are here to LOVE one another-not to tear each other down; not to tell everyone but our own little group that they're going to hell; not to buy into capitalism's mantra that there are "limited resources", etc. God does not want us to live our lives in fear. He does not want us to make decisions based on fear. He is pure love as are we. Humans have simply twisted the message. God was trying to show us His true essence with Jesus' example.

I struggle so much with this idea that an emotion like sadness can just roll through and be gone in a relatively short time simply because one sits and "feels" it, or puts their pure awareness on it or whatever. I've done that SO much over many years. It just doesn't work that for me. I stare at the sadness, the deep, unbearable grief, the depression, I study it, I apply awareness to it, etc., etc. It doesn't go anywhere. It just hurts and hurts and I'm so f*g sick of it. Sometimes I cry and it lightens the load for a bit but mostly it just sits there being heavy and awful. It seems like pure awareness (like awareness watching awareness, attention on the void, that kind of thing) is separate from emotional states. Like, if you're _already_ in a good mood, great, putting attention on awareness will feel great. If you are overcome by deep, heavy grief, putting attention on awareness can be done but it doesn't do much to lighten the grief.

How long have you been practicing? Sometimes it's wise to seek therapy while practicing meditation techniques. This process is way more difficult than some make it out to be, but that being said it has validity. For me personally it took almost 30 years. My understanding is that it should not go too quickly. Slow and steady is much more sane.

I remember on my pathless path learning how to experience my emotions fully, and just making sure every week to give myself time to do just that, cry, smile, laugh, sit in fear. I learned very quickly that the anger I felt was never anger, it was always fear, sadness, or pain (which often leads to fear or sadness as chronic emotional states). The person who cut me off and caused me to slam on my brakes. I wasn't angry, I was fearful and I was resentful of the fear that I felt created by this person so I responded with anger. The man who murdered my cousin created sadness in me that became easier to handle as anger because we're rarely taught that anger isn't a core emotion. In fact every list of core emotions has anger front and center. But anger can only exist with other emotions, you cannot just be angry. You can be happy, you can be sad, with no other emotion involved, you can be fearful, you can experience disgust, but you can't experience anger separate from other emotions.

As a Buddhist and someone who meditates regularly, all I can say is welcome to the real journey. Not to sound trivial, but you have taken the red pill. You can't have a real understanding of anything without first understanding (or at least striving to understand) your own mind. You are NOT your thoughts. You are much more than that.

This is not"woo" lol.. absolutely love it,as said before, when the student is ready the teacher appears...my teachers have been in the form of many books by Eckhart, Deepak,Adyashanti and many others,, when you're truly ready to awaken you'll have lots of guidance along the way and you'll know on a very deep level that it resonates with you, it'll be disorienting and you'll wonder what tf is happening to you, but know that it's all the falseness/illusion / untruths of you being completely blown apart, and from this emerges the true you,who has always been there underneath and behind everything else...
