Why cut the factory edge first?

Great question! The factory edge is almost never perfectly straight. So, ripping it off gives you that reference for the remainder of the cuts.

@brianwbal40 I completely agree with you. However, I'm doing small projects in a small basement. There is just not enough room to saw planks longer than 2 meters on a table saw. With this track saw trick, I can do that.
