As someone who has been gardening for well over 50 years, a small piece of advice, if I may. If you notice in the video, none of his plants were 'root bound'. Meaning the roots were not visibly growing in a large circle around the soil in the shape of the pot. So they had plenty of room to stretch out into the soil of the new container. His method looks like it will work well because of that. But if your plants are root bound when you take them from the smaller pots, you really need to loosen those roots. That gives them a better chance of growing outward into the new soil and a better survival rate. Cause they are looking for water throughout the new soil wherever you place water, rather than continuing to grow in that tight circle.

After potting up planters for over 30 years, I stumbled across this video last spring- well it's just as he said do this and stand back and watch them grow! - all the neighbours asked where I had purchased my planters - thinking I had a new source- large pots have never looked better - no damage to any limbs while trying to tuck one more in - no fussing around to ensure there's sufficient soil. I have done the same method this year and will continue for the next 30 years!! ;)

Spot on❤Love it Ian. I have to comment again. 🌹This is so helpful. So many people want to have plants in a smaller space - porch, deck, courtyard,entry way, terrace, veranda, patio and more. Especially those who live in condos, apartments, flats, granny flat...with limited space who want plants and flowers so they can enjoy the beauty of that touch of life. Thanks again.
@diananutt15172 жыл бұрын
🌞🌱🌿 @marty martyn I turned to container gardening when it finally sunk in that our yard had too much sand in it and my watering and feeding efforts weren't able to take hold as well. I even drilled holes in a child's wading pool, sunk it into the ground to nearly it's rim, and filled it with a wonderful mix of organic rich soil and nutrients. By properly feeding the plants and veggies I planted, the results were amazing!! I actually harvested my first cucumber ever that didn't look like a balloon animal! 😛

i stumbled upon this idea approximately ten years ago when I kept buying plants and did not have time to plant them. i stuffed them in two very large pots beside the garage doors. as time moved on, I noticed them starting to grow. All my life I’ve submerged plants in the pots but usually planted annuals in the ground. I have 8 huge pots in my front landscaping since Florida water restrictions limit to one day a week. In the last 3 or 4 years many of my neighbors have purchased large enamel terra cotta pots and our subdivision is full of color. It was quite an initial investment but have lost only one due to high hurricane winds. I choose only one color to match trim on my home and plant white flowers except in December, filled with poinsettia plants. Sprinkling system is aimed at pots. 🌸🌺
@adriankap29783 жыл бұрын
Years ago I kept saying there has to be an easier way to planting in containers & even in the ground. This is exactly what I found to be the best way by far. Not only was my husband impressed but so is everyone I’ve shown. I’ve always disliked the in ground backfilling so I do it the same way. After fluffing the dirt about 12in down for roots to spread then I dig a hole to approximate size of the pot remove the plant then shimmy the pot in the dirt then place the plant in the hole so I know there’s no air pockets & move on to the next one. You’ve verified my brilliant idea. As it’s said, great minds think alike... ;)

linda handley Hi thank you for your message, hope your aches and pains have eased off. I’ve tried to do what I can in my garden to keep myself occupied. I have a couple of beautiful plants jasmine, clematis and bleeding hearts. Sadly I cannot do as much as I’d like as I’m riddled with chronic pain head to toe which moves around by body throughout the day. Nature definitely helps to heal the soul. I’m in social isolation alone, I cannot find the words to describe how this is making me feel it’s hard going. @Nicole, like you, pain is my constant companion. Like my mother's whole family, I have osteoarthritis and it is miserable. It's hard to explain to someone just how bad it is, but let me try, LOL. Right now, my left foot feels like someone took a sledge hammer, gave it a good whack, then doused it with gasoline and set fire to it! I used to see my dear family members suffer and never knew it would happen to me. I never want another joint surgery. But, I can't stop moving and just sit. It's hard for me to accept and if I let it, it could turn into depression, but I can't let that happen. I returned to my Catholic faith and it has helped so much. Thanks so much for your sweet reply. We have to stay strong sister! Stay well and safe, things WILL get better!
