Damn big ups for Anthony pointing out the truth on the McD's coffee case. That lady's skin melted the coffee was so hot. McD's knew they had an issue with it but decided that the potential profits from selling overly hot coffee outweighed the potential loss if found liable in a few individual cases per year. That's why she got the big judgement. The deal w/ the hot coffee is two fold: 1. They assumed people would wait until they drove home before drinking coffee, and didn't want people complaining it was lukewarm. and 2. Studies had shown that people think hotter coffee tastes better...stale coffee is masked at hotter temps.

I think America is so litigious because American companies started doing the calculus on whether a lawsuit was going to be more expensive than doing the right thing.
@TraeSMR3 жыл бұрын
This is absolutely the case. Plus the high cost of entry for the average person to pursue a lawsuit vs a large company or international corporation for something like not being fully paid out on your time card or being fired for federally protected reasons.

Coffee literally can’t be “way hotter than normal coffee would ever be,” because coffee is typically served at 190-200 degrees F, and water boils at 212 degrees F. So the hottest that liquid coffee could be is 212. So at most it could be 10-20 degrees hotter than a typical cup of coffee. Also, even 212 degree coffee is not going to produce “way beyond third degree burns,” whatever that even means.

Those pranks in Japan are usually done on Japanese “talents” (quasi-celebrities.) Basically you’ve got to be likable to the audience throughout trauma these shows induce in order to make it in the industry.

Exactly, a lot of them are scripted as well. Even if they don't know what the prank is, they know they're being filmed, so they'll "react" accordingly.
