I'm convinced that the reason companies list entry level or basic jobs as "5+ years experience" is to stiff candidates in salary negotiations. Along the lines of saying "I'm sorry you don't meet the requirements we can only offer the minimum of the range".

Two more options: -Don't pay attention to the experience requirement and apply anyway (most places don't really care about it) -Lie. Come up with some "freelance" experience, you can ask some friend to lie for you and say they were ypur previous employer. Companies/recruiters that ask for stupid shit, don't deserve the respect of being listened or of telling them the truth. You do you.

While I certainly don’t advocate for outright lying, I can VOUCH that I have gotten jobs that I didn’t meet THEIR LISTED QUALIFICATIONS for by just putting my previous employer as my “qualifications” and I guess their hiring team just didn’t care enough to do their “due diligence” before deciding to extend a job offer. Obviously, I wouldn’t recommend this for ANY JOB that’s going to require some type of clearance because they are GOING TO FIND OUT everything they can about you. But for a job that’s not like this that’ll offer on-the-job training? You’re either going to “learn on your feet” or be back at the job search shortly.

I would love it if you could make a video about getting a job with no references. My cousin is just starting out after graduating last year and still can’t get any call backs. Also sometimes adults who left a toxic relationship have no references because everyone they knew would repeat the lies their ex tells just to hurt them and be in good with that ex. Myself and some of my family have been through this exact scenario
@vvonderweiss
@vvonderweiss Жыл бұрын
Is it possible for your cousin to start freelancing? Vivian has a post where she lists site for remote work and freelance. If you need references, sometimes just completing a few tasks for another is enough to put on a resume if that person can be a reference. Volunteer work also can help provide references. To be honest, it's hard to get callbacks unless a place has a high turn over or is an agency. Agencies aren't my fave but they WILL make sure you are employed within a month or less. Even if it's not a desirable job, 6 months of training and diligence can help boost a resume and create networks to find news jobs without an agency.

One thing I never would have thought before getting my first job is how boring and even scary jobs can be. If someone gets a boring job, lives in a mediocre life and dies that's it it's over.
