Composers, Anderson, Howe, Squire, Kaye, Bruford. Man, this stuff was so much easier with teenage fingers.

It's easy to ignore the guitar part when you're listening to the whole group because Yes had a virtuoso in every instrument, but seeing this makes me think what a superb guitarist Steve Howe was. Certainly one of the most overlooked and underestimated (rarely appears in "best guitar players" lists). And to the uploader: even though your fingers are not young any more, they can still rock!
@snoozedoctor6 ай бұрын
Thanks! Steve Howe is a complete original. I once read that he was determined not to play stolen licks, most of what I call "musical cliches." I tried that for a while too, but came to realize my skill is being a parrot and not so much coming up with something new.

Steve was voted Best Overall Guitarist in Guitar Player Magazine 5 years in a row from 1977-1981. He was the first rock guitar player to be inducted into Guitar Player Magazine's Hall of Fame. Hardly overlooked and underestimated.

@@christophertrionfo8116 Take any "best guitarist" list from the last 30 years. IF Steve Howe is included at all, he won't even be among the top 20 (e.g.: number 23 on Guitar World and *123* on Rolling Stone). Now Jimi Hendrix, on the other hand, will surely be first or second, even though I have always failed to see his alleged godlike abilities on the guitar (a good musician, but far from the best to my ears). Likewise, Eric Clapton and Jimmy Page will always be on the top 5. Moreover, if you talk to amateur guitarists in general, most of them won't ever have heard of Steve, whereas to me he is one of the biggest influences in that instrument.

In my studio now I can do multiple takes of the difficult solos until I get them almost perfect. The one fast solo probably took 10 or 15 takes to get how I wanted it. The rest I did in one continuous take. The one solo is really difficult for me though.

I would also contend, Steve Howes galactic electric guitar solo on 'sound chaser' again stands as one of the very best ever recorded and goes against anybody else's effort at a total extravaganza. Other guitarists I consider 'mine' would be John Petrucci, Bill Nelson, Steve Hackett, and Eddie Van Halen.

Nice, thx; you make it look pretty easy. I first saw it live when Trevor Rabin was on board in fall of '83, he ripped this thing note-for-note, I was totally blown away, being already by then a guitarist of some ambition myself. But I had never learned or studied this, the precise technique always somehow eluded me. Very elegant, this is one of the greatest moments in all guitar, and all rock music for that matter, for my money. Quite an homage to the Master, Monsieur Howe, both by Trevor Rabin, and yourself.
