Wow, Doc! I can't wait to dig into this one. I think I'll try to play it on the third (though I might stay in standard tuning and move it up a couple to the fifth and sing down an octave--better for my voice, which like yours is limited in the higher range). Just play the "CAGED" version of the verse and intro chords. In any event, it'll be a challenge. I was surprised to learn this one was a little controversial. I was about 12 when "Songs from the Wood" was released, and I was just getting into Tull. It was the coolest album I could imagine. Now my wife and daughter, neither one of whom has an appreciation for Ian and his mates, make fun of me whenever I play it, so I guess it's all controversial in my house, but you're never too old to rock n roll if you're too young to die, so I'll just keep at it! Thanks for the work, Doctor!

Liked the slowed down version. Easier to follow the embellishments. Fun fact…just increase the playback speed to hear it at full speed.
I got it, what a lovely melody to play on guitar, BIG thank you man.🥰 I can hear a few notes from "My God" from Tull's "Aqualung" LP from this tune.

Awesome! It's fun to incorporate the arrangement so that you can better hear the beauty of that melody!

@@snoozedoctor : Thanks, it's a lot harder song to play than I thought. Ian is an amazing musician, and you can tell he knows how to play in tune - that's for sure. Next, I want to learn "Look Into the Sun" I also know "We Used to Know", which is more straight-forward and easier than Reasons for Waiting." Cheers mate.

@@snoozedoctor Hey Doc, thanks for telling me what you're playing. I've been playing Mother Goose almost non stop. You are a monster player. You have unraveled a 50 year riddle for me. And I have a great ear for picking out guitar parts. But I play primarily electric guitar. God bless you my friend.

Late to the party but well done and lovely interpretation. On paper, Ian’s oft used chords were basic 70’s singer/songwriter stuff (cat stevens for sure). But how he used them is/was so unique and complex.
@snoozedoctor17 күн бұрын
I agree. He sometimes use a major 7 chord, or that crazy B7 over A in My God verses, but otherwise, not many altered chords. But combinations were very unique.

Thank you! The guitar is a 2008 Martin OMC Aura. I'm not sure how many years the guitar was made but it was eventually discontinued due to lack of interest. It has a very thin profile neck, something I like because I have small hands. The string spacing is a little wider as well which is nice for finger style.

@snoozedoctor25 күн бұрын
yes, at the end of this I explain it. The thing is, Ian's guitar is actually playing the harmony to this section while the flute and bells play the main melody.
