Love how you lead with "it has to be fun" especially at this age. Some parents take it a bit too serious and its important to just let a kid be a kid.

Great fundamentals and daddy comments/jokes. Still making it fun for the kids and this drill works for other sports too! The "don't try to tear an ACL" comments are classic!!! Thanks for sharing your knowledge!

I know comments are supposed to be one or two lines... Sorry! But a few extra lines are needed to really say it all. Thank you for the videos for youth players!! My nine year old has never played, other than a few games of catch in the backyard (which bored him more than helped); he decided he wanted to play 10U this year, so I started the search to find a "Beginners Guide to Teaching a Beginner." Your videos gave me a great game plan on how to do just that; and I think the most important tip for me was to always keep it fun, and not coach every rep. In just three weeks, he is catching, fielding and hitting and having great fun in the backyard and at practice! Tonight, after practice, he was super talkative about how he "made an out at First Base by catching the ball on the non-glove hand side!" Much thanks!!! I look forward to more videos, and would request a video on proper throwing techniques to teach.

Welp this vidoe was very very helpful! My 5yr old son just started playing baseball a few wks ago. He’s very athletic, so I know once he learns the game and understands what’s going on he’ll be just fine.

Thanks for the video - great stuff. Would love to see a hitting progression you work through with him - tee, front toss, throwing / machine - or any hitting drills you do with a young kid. Thanks again!

Great tips! I’ve been trying to stress flat back for kids in this range for a few years but have been failing at the lesson of seeing the ball and the glove. This approach helps A LOT.

Coach! I need to help my son w the fear of fielding the ball the minute it comes off the bat w any sort of speed . Picks his head up sits on balls or just sticks his glove out
@Mitten4371 Жыл бұрын
Yea he's right at that age you want to make it fun for them and then when they get to more of advanced baseball then I would talk more about advanced baseball. But there are some drills that you can use and one is get them get use to catching the ball. This video is a good place to start and start by getting their glove on the ground and have them watch the ball go into the glove but out in front of them. Get them to field the ball in the proper way then when they get that down work on footwork technique because they need to be ready at anytime when a ball is hit to them. Also get them fielding the ball without a glove because this way it makes their hands quicker but do it in practice only. One thing my coach in youth baseball would teach us is called the creep which means when the pitcher is about to deliver the baseball to home plate the infielders would start to creep with them on the balls of their feet. Because you don't want them just standing flat footed you want your infielders and outfielders moving so if a ball is hit to them then they can make the play
