While I don't know of any Scripture that clearly says we will not forget our lives before heaven (and "not be brought to remembrance" doesn't mean "literally can't remember") I do find that a number of verses as well as the logic of heavenly worship seem to imply we will remember.

Jesus was raised a spirit. As a spirit he could fashion his materialized body to take whatever form he desired. Most of his disciples didn’t even recognize him after his resurrection. Why would someone need proof the resurrected Jesus was who he said he was by investigating the injuries left by his execution? If his face looked like it did just THREE DAYS prior then why not just look at his face to tell if the resurrected Jesus was who he claimed to be? Is it reasonable to believe the apostles and disciples will forget how Jesus looked only after THREE DAYS of being dead? Spirits can materialized bodies and appear any way they wish and the resurrected Jesus did just that.
@liljenborg2517
@liljenborg2517 7 ай бұрын
@@toreyhorton1789 Jesus was bodily resurrected. That's why the body disappeared from the tomb. That's why he still had the scars. That was specifically why in most of those appearances he ATE with the disciples - precisely to show he WASN'T a spirit. In only one of those appearances (the two men on the road to Emaus) did the people to whom he appeared not recognize him. This may have been that they were downcast and not really looking at him. This could have been that God had blinded their eyes. Or it could be that our resurrected bodies won't be exactly the same as we are right now. We just had a funeral for a lady at our church. I used to hang out with her kids when we were young (over forty years ago). I could recognize her youngest son easily because he has the most distinctive eyebrows. Even though he shaves his head now and back in his teen years sported a mane down to his shoulder blades. But his older brother, who I actually spent more time with, was a lot harder to recognize physically, but his attitude and voice were still there, and I could recognize him easily from that. In a similar way, our resurrected bodies, free of the influences of sin, decay, disease and all that (that one guy whose defining feature back from high school was his epic case of volcanic acne - won't be rocking a single pimple then) will probably preserve some of our features and look, the same way our adult faces preserve our appearance as children, but with a spiritual maturity that will make you appear both completely different and recognizably the same.

@cc3775 There is a passage in Matthew 25 that talks of the end times where the people are separated like sheep and goats. The sheep go to "eternal" life and the goats to "eternal" fire along with the Devil. I do understand the conflict inside because I too have loved ones that most likely will be heading to hell. It's probably the hardest doctrine that is written in the Bible. Adherents of Christianity can easily see that it is tucked in amongst all the other nice beliefs. Anyhow, you wouldn't be the first person to selectively build your own religion.

Fellow former bully victim here. The one more secular saying which this reminds me of is "Strong men create good times. Good times create weak men. Weak men create hard times. I can relate. I have always been separated out from my siblings. I have had many blessings in my life and it took me a while to see that it has always been Jesus Christ, leading me through it all. My family now lives in insecurity and fear, sickness and hardships, not putting their trust in God. I live without fear, am healthy and have a pure love for God and Jesus Christ out Savior. Seems the only family and friend that was important that I really ever needed was Jesus after all. Now I look at me being separated out as a blessing. There are many people who contributed to her choosing what she did along with her 8 rare conditions/illnesses. I tried so hard to help her and yet I feel like I missed the mark. Others did too and a few people whom harmed her and I believe have some responsibility over the outcome. The take of forgetting our lives/unsaved people in heaven always came off as very pessimistic/despairing to me. It implies that somehow the sorrow of this life is so great that we cannot have joy in heaven and still remember it, which reduces God's power and the utter perfection of heaven tremendously. The reason we won't be sad anymore isn't because we'll just forget what made us sad, but because we will come into perfect understanding under God, and fully accept the reasons for that suffering and the reasons for the punishments of unsaved people. The sorrows of this life will not in any way detract from the joy of heaven.

I took him to where he wanted to go... Might have just been an angel God used to give me that message and you just reminded me of that. The hitchhikers name was Randy and he wanted to get on a greyhound bus from Arkansas to New York. I was at my house and the only stuff that was on TV was horror stuff. I wanted to go to a Bible study cause it was Wednesday when I saw the guy at the corner. I passed him up and prayed. God said...do you want to go to the study or do you want to do something for me? 😅 I said...well I have to go to the bank first and if the guy is still there when I come back around I'll pick him up. He was still there and the rest is a testimony 😅.I definitely do not advise people especially females to pick up hitch hikers...better pray about everything before you do it...if there's something I feel like doing but it looks too risky I ask God to send someone else in my stead...and sometimes he just kinda insists. He knows the reservations we have about certain things and he sure won't lead us to evil etc. My pastor always said...if he gives you the unction..he'll give you the function.

Yeah, but like, it's all down to interpretation. Multiple verses as Mike mentioned show people in the Bible remembering their lives after death, so why don't we could interpret this one verse to say that's not the case, we could also, contextualize it, and come with a more accurate meaning. I mean, the idea of not remembering can be used in speech in a non-literal way, forgetting the past, does it mean you literally don't forget the past, it means you're moving on to the future.

Good teaching, Mike! The point you made at the end, about people being able to look back at past suffering and be at peace and even thankful for it reminds me of a man my grandparents knew in the early 1970s. His name was Jiem Ming, and his family were Chinese immigrants to Thailand, where my grandparents worked as missionaries at the time. Jiem Ming was a brilliant student, but his promising earthly future was suddenly destroyed when he contacted leprosy in his early 20s. He was expelled from his family and had to go to the leprosy colony where my grandfather worked at the time as the main medical doctor. Understandably bitter at first about the turn his life had taken, Jiem Ming eventually came to Christ through the love shown to him by the caregivers and fellow patients in the community. He became a Christian evangelist and also translated many theological texts into Thai. He eventually thanked God for his contracting leprosy, as it led to his finding Jesus.

I agree with Pastor Mike on this. Paul would not call dying gain, if it effectively meant the end of him. For me to completely forget everything that happened on Earth is the same as me completely ceasing to exist. We /are/ our experiences. Retrograde amnesia like you see in old movies almost never happens in reality (most real cases of amnesia prevent NEW memories from forming, not erase old ones), but in those rare cases when someone completely loses their memories for whatever reason, that person has effectively "died." Their body might still be there but whoever is in it has a new personality, new experiences, new likes and dislikes. In what sense would I be "saved" or "immortal" at all if some other version of me with no ties to the old was all that remained after the Resurrection?

There is only one way to be fully healed (in my opinion) of the bad of this life. It is amnesia. In a physical way on earth we can have pain that is the cause of some damage. But if only a pain killer is given, only the pain goes away. The damage remains. If you remember everything about this life, yet don't feel the pain, the damage remains. Your mistakes and sins you will remember forever??? No. Healing of the bad of this life is by amnesia. As it says: “For behold, I create new heavens and a new earth; And the former things will not be remembered or come to mind. -excerpt Isaiah 65

@@user-iz8np3vv4i I wish we could talk in person for this conversation because things like voice tone etc. matter. But I mean this in the kindest way possible when I say if you truly believe that amnesia is the only way to heal wounds, then you lack all meaningful faith in God or even the slightest comprehension of what it will truly mean to be in fully, physically His Holy Presence. We will "forget" much of what was before not because we can't remember it but because it will be a "who cares in comparison to this" amazement. When you were a child, a small toddler, at some point you probably fell and bumped your head or your foot or something as you were learning to walk. At that moment, you cried. It hurt. It was a big deal. A few minutes later you stopped crying because someone picked you up and comforted you and the pain became trival and forgotten for more immediate relief. Not multiply that times the literal infinity of a FAR more loving God and an eternal life in Kingdom. In what sense does a mere mortal life of a few decades need to be completely erased in order to be overshadowed by THAT?

Pastor Mike Thank you so much. I appreciate your willingness to learn. As a young Christian a friend encouraged me to "always" remain teachable. I've followed this advise throughout my life. I am 65 and each day I learn something new. My daughter Amber died of an overdose. It almost destroyed me. I spent 35 years going to a churches similar to NAR. The last one was for 11 yrs. At Amber's funeral, the pastor's wife expressed her" regret that Amber was in Hell"... to my 18-year-old daughter! Let God deal with her as he sees fit. I have struggled about her eternity For many reasons I do believe she is with she is with Jesus. I know that God is merciful and just. I have found peace with this aspect of her life. My family's lives will never be the same. However, I know I serve a loving God. Pastor Mike you have a solid perspective. Keep teaching and learning. 🙏🕊

A loving god would not require servitude. Or demand worship. Or ignore vast numbers of the faithful who die at the hands of criminals, starvation or tragedy. A "regret of hell" would be the laziest banality I have ever heard.

A fantastic answer! I discovered this years ago and you hit it on the head. Another supporting idea is "in your presence there is fullness of joy", which mwans God is conatantly fully joyful, but how couls that be when He is aware of all the bad things going on here. He is joyful for the same reason we can be, which is the answer you gave

Blessings, Pastor Winger. Thanks for this Blessed content. I believe that, all too often, we put limitations on God. I believe that the only limitations we should place on God, is scriptural…He cannot lie…He cannot sin. Jesus knew what went on in the pagan temples, such as Diana etc…yet, He wasn’t negatively impacted. I believe that we will be gifted with the ability to see all things, from a righteous and Godly perspective…there is NO GOOD that comes from sin. Blessings from Tennessee.

One of my favourite verse comes to mind: 2 Corinthians 4:17 "For this light momentary affliction is preparing for us an eternal weight of glory beyond all comparison". The afflictions of this life are doing something-are producing something-in us that will contribute to the eternal weight of glory in the new creation. We will not only remember our earthly life, but its perfected and healed memory (as Ps Mike said) will contribute to our joy in God.

Like a child who slips and falls and is picked up by their parent. The tears are wiped away and soon they no longer are upset about the skinned knee. Gods love surpass all pain! Being in his presence will be so dawning the pain of the world will be that of a memory and no longer hold weight or cause suffering. We are being reconciled back to him and a apart of that is a healing process!

So I think it’s really interesting, Heaven isn’t a place completely without sadness. We are told that every tear will be wiped away. That implies we will always be comforted in His presence, not that we have no memories. In fact when all things are made new, we are told the old creation will not be remembered, but the people who are in Heaven are already part of the new creation. As the Second Born of Resurrection, the believers in heaven are made new long before the old passes away. I think we will remember past hurts, but forgiveness will be so radical in the After, that we will praise God for how he turned all things for the good of Us who were called according to his purposes. That’s my understanding of it, but I’m not in heaven, so I can only really theorize

I lost two "Dads" - my biological one, when I was 14 and my Stepdad, when I was 26. Both of them were very important to me. My Stepfather was sent bei God, because I needed him for my growing process - especially towards God himself. Even though my Stepdad was a Jehovahs Witness since childhood (I'm pretty sure that he realized on his deathbed, that that isn't the right way), I found God through him and the JWs - I must state I'm not one of the JWs, I just started to dig deeper into the bible after going to the JWs meetings. I truely believe that I will meet them both - and everybody else I never met or that I lost from my family - when I'm with God. I really believe that this is one thing our true and loving Father doesn't take away from us. Also I think that the things we endured in this life shaped us - yes even the bad ones - and we have characters, so I don't think God wants us to be all the same and stuff. All those memories, loved ones and stuff made us how we are and when we then also realize who we are in Jesus, we are finally whole.

Thank you for the insight Mike. I have at times struggled in what I know is my limited intellect with the idea of perfect, endless joy alongside memories of this life. I often wondered how I would or could deal with the idea of eternity and someone I loved dearly in my past never made it to heaven, and I would yet feel perfect joy somehow. Perhaps there are things we would not remember, or that God's comforting presence would overcome all anyway.

Hey Mike, I've been watching your videos for quite a while, since 2021 to be precise. I was a new convert at the time, then became a Calvinist after reading and watching content from Calvinists like RC Sproul, the Puritans, John Calvin himself, etc. I eventually ended up in a proper Calvinist seminary. I've always been ignorant about Arminianism and used to attack Arminians, thinking it was cool. However, I'm still in the seminary, and I've become quite skeptical about both Calvinism and Arminianism in the past 3-4 weeks. Arminianism is starting to make more sense to me now. I'm not a fully-fledged Arminian yet, but the arguments are very logical, and I might become one shortly. Raymond Reang, India.
