Unfortunately, the only sure way to eliminate bots, is to have an identification verification system. Which on surface level sounds like a smart idea, however this could potentially be the gateway to completely eliminate anonymity on the internet.

You don't need identity verification. Just some good old fashion regex and somebody that updates the match patterns on a regular basis. A technology that has existing on every computer platform since the 80s and every programming language still in use today. There's no limit to how many occurrences it can capture in a single query and it's generally the fastest possible way to parse text. Have tried so many replacements over the years but nothing approaches the robustness and performance of a regex query.

The only reason this problem continues to grow is because KZbin doesn't know what they're doing. Many of their recent decisions can be boiled down to "I'm going to do this random thing that has nothing but a negative impact because I can.". No reason, not even a trace of any coherent thought process.

Actually, KZbin knows how to solve this problem. They are intentionally not solving this problem because it provides them an excuse to implement other solutions (e.g. biometric internet login) that would benefit them and harm everyone else.

It makes perfect sense, because KZbin/Google wants to end any kind of online anonymity. They have no incentive to do anything about the bots because they can use the bots as an excuse to roll out an invasive, privacy-destroying solution. There was an article in Ars Technica recently about an initiative that would require you to scan your face to access your accounts on Google/Apple/whatever.

@@m0taro365 There are only 4 billion unique IPv4 addresses possible. There are a lot more than 4 billion devices connecting to the internet. IP bans would easily create false positives. Just imagine someone connects to your wifi, posts a few bot comments, then gets you banned forever from KZbin.

Not sure if it's related but anytime I watch a video that's even remotely related to finances there's always at least one comment that's asking for help or saying that investing by yourself is risky and all the replies to it are "people" sharing their life experiences and advice with the conversation inevitably shifting to the recommendation of a single financial advisor as if they all just so happen to know said advisor AND watch the same content.

Don't forget the replies that are either being hidden or deleted for example , you see a comment and you see it has 10 replies and then when you go to the thread, it only has 3 replies. That's an issue that needs to be addressed as well.

KZbin shorts has a similar but worse bot problem, you'll find tons of accounts spam posting the same video over and over hundreds of times to farm the algorithm

Commenting without watching the video fully yet, but the easiest solution in my mind is just a captcha for every comment you post. Edit: Optimus didn't mention anything about captchas. I'm assuming I'm one of the few people in the 200 current comments that mentioned something about it and I still feel it'd be the best solution, though when does KZbin do anything we want? Also as a general rule of thumb, I don't reply to bots/spammers as it pushes them higher into the algorithm. Just ignore and report, even if it is futile in the long term. Or, alternatively... hypothetically speaking, would they come to KZbin's attention if they're upvoted? Doubtful but you never know.

every time I go to a slightly famous channel, the comments are filled with bots, I keep reporting them every single time, but they never go away, they keep appearing with the same message, if youtube doesn't do anything about it, twitch might not be that bad of an alternative, even with the stuff that they keep doing
