T5 build series - Rear arm bushes - caliper rebuild - new brakes - ep5

Guys it's the long overdue video on the T5 build series and today we are tackling the rear suspension. I'm going to replace the rear bushes with polyurethane ones, the rear calipers require a rebuild as well as replacing the discs - pads and making new hard brakes lines.

I can't wait to get a van and work on it. You did a fantastic job with this T5. I did some suspension rebuilding and I've learned a trick. Before doing anything, I lift the car up and lower it after 5 minutes. With the wheels on the floor, I get a measure from the center of the wheel hub to the top of the wheel arch. After putting all the new parts in, I lift the hub with the jack, like you did untill it reaches the previous measure. And then I tighten the bushings. Can't wait to see the new T5 episode.

The cupra-nickel pipes are an alloy not nickel plated. Don’t crush your flexi brake hoses, just prop the brake pedal with a stick against the front seat, that’ll close off the reservoir and prevent fluid loss. You can also make a pedal prop with a speed clamp by turning the clamp arms around to face outwards, this will give u a bit more adjustability

I saw someone stick the pipe between 2 pieces of flat wood and roll it.. flat in seconds, but could mark it up.... I used them PSB bushes on my T30 lwb at the front and thought they might be harder and crashy, however they've been spot on... 16" Steels though, on big alloys they might be poop, but for me the easy fitting meant i'm using them.

Hey bud that’s a good idea with the wood I’ll try that 👍 the poly bushes do go in very nice, I used standard ones on the front for comfort but they where a pain to fit. The poly ones do last a lot longer so well worth it to not be doing them again 👍

Easiest way to test, get a bar on the wheel nut as if your going to undo the wheel and as you tug on the bar you’ll see how far the wheel moves backwards or forward, ideally it shouldnt move at all 👍

I don’t know if I’ll keep this one long term so I won’t put my stamp on the inside but I will make it tidy.

After watching this vid I thought, why would you want to work on one of these vans, but the google gods put me onto Van Haven vids, and now I'm really looking to this build. Hey kel 👍 thank you, from the basic vans that they are compared to what they can look like is awesome. Vw’s seem to have made vans both caddy’s and T5’s that are easy to make look good and the amount of aftermarket parts to pump them up is also good. I’m just in the middle of doing the front end upgrade now so hopefully you like the new front end and the van grows on you.

Hi bud so you need a new drive shaft to fix it properly but spacing the sensor out will work fine

The bushes at the rear of the front wheel wishbones must be a weakness in most vw group vehicles. I have changed them in my caddy and fabia.good video,taking pride in your work

Nice work and looking good again, The red grease is inert and will not attack the rubber over time, Ordinary grease can harden or harm the rubber or bush, so I was wincing slightly when you used the grease on the arm bushes.. I didn't know about the concentric bolts on the outer bushes, so when I eventually get around to doing it, I am now forewarned!

Hey bud I never knew the technical term for different greases so appreciate that 👍, I’ll mention that in another video to hopefully help others. Yes I only spotted the concentric bolts when I slid under for the first time, for now just marking them would be fine I’m sure but I will treat the van to 4 wheel alignment at a later date.
