Hey, noisepuppet. I found an old 8mm film and I was wondering if you knew anything about those. You could even make a youtube poop from whatever's on it. It came in a small box saying "movie of the month club".
@noisepuppet5 жыл бұрын
Yes, I know a little about these things, and I hope it'll be some use to you. My wife collected 8 and 16 mm reels and projectors a few years ago, but we had to sell them off. (You may know that I was into old camcorders and audio gear. She was into old film cameras and projectors, including movie stuff. At peak, I'm sure we had a couple tons of cameras, projectors, media, lights, lab stuff, and other A/V gear, and we wound up offloading nearly all of it.) She got her hands on one of the least expensive 8mm digitizer machines and fiddled with it extensively but couldn't get it to work acceptably. The ones on Amazon that start around $400 iirc don't have spring loaded tensioners, and instead of rollers, they have friction surfaces. The result is jerky movement and frequent slippage and so on. Framing is unreliable. She wrote up an evaluation for a local archive, but I think that's the takeaway. Upgraded versions of the same machine don't perform any better. Going from memory, decent machines seemed to start at a thousand USD or more, and for some reason, $2400 sticks in my mind. Projecting the film and taking video of it with a camcorder or iPad is cheap and reliable, but the results aren't good. Paying a specialist to do it is great but expensive. There are cheap devices that let you do it frame by frame, but imagine 18 or 24 frames per second, and then you have to capture sound (if any) separately. So TLDR, we found out how to get acceptable results, and it would have required a lot more money or possibly work. Let me know how it goes for you, and if there's any more info I can provide.
