Yu-Gi-Oh! The Gauntlet - Ep 1

Mario and I decided to attempt a series where we play a best of seven matches. Every week we would bring a new Yu-Gi-Oh! deck to the table and see who could win while continuously switching up the plan. The decks were going to include the likes of Infernobles, Shaddolls, Lightsworn, Heros, Cyber Dragons, Myakashis, Phantom Knights, Gren Maju and many more. However, after filming a couple of episodes we didn't find the back and forth we were looking for. Regardless of the interjection of numerous hand traps most games ended after a single turn or two and while that can be fun in a large event due to numerous matches throughout the day it wasn't inspiring us here. With that we decided to end the series after only a single episode.
Now, you're probably wondering, why upload this at all? Well, we wanted to present the issue we were facing with the original Yu-Gi-Oh! series idea and ask for your input. We want to create content together, however, don't have any solidified ideas. You will be the community watching so you seemed to be the right people to go to. Sealed only round 2 but you have to spin a wheel of “meta decks” from the last few years. Whatever deck you land on, you have to build. So the wheel could be tri-brigade, drytron, shaddoll, infernoble, prank kids, dragon link, dogmatika, etc. You also get to start with handtraps. This would allow you guys to not burn a week by opening the devastator that everyone has seen 200 times opened.

Watching you on the farfa stream and I really like the idea of a forgotten archetype showdown. It would be really cool to watch a Jinzo vs Masked beast game with modern cards. There are so many really bad archetypes in the game that just having some fun building them to the best you can would be really interesting to watch.

What about a Gauntlet series but with decks that only play with their own archetype. Like Shadoll with only shadoll cards (or most of them) and something like that. U could even use the banned cards of that archetype to see if it works without the outside help. It would be interesting in my opinion.

I think a VS on-paper series with retro formats of your choice would be amazing. Stuff like Edison, Duelist Alliance, etc. would be really fun to see and probably much more interactive than just modern Yugioh.

What if you guys each started out with 8 or so decks, and every time you lose, you lose that deck to use. But you could use only pure archetypes (so no adding dragoon, halq, etc to boost your deck). Then whoever loses all their decks first loses the series. You could even do it where you have to play all your decks before you’re able to reuse them.

Was kinda fun to just watch the insanity of modern Yu-Gi-Oh in real time haha. If you switched up the decks to be pure builds of just the chosen archetypes cards (exceptions for certain cards like Monster Reborn etc) that should remove the long combos the out of archetype cards result in and give you both more turns

Great run, that series was a blast! 👏 You guys are so fun to watch interact. Reminds me of my days of hanging out with friends playing cards. I'm only 30 but it seems like ages. If I had the charisma to be a yugituber, I would like to show off the casual player favorite archtypes. My personal favorites have always been Karakuri and Xsabers. Keep up the great work. This is actually a really cool way of getting feedback, I think the whole aspect of cracking packs and slowly building the decks was really entertaining in sealed only, I think the matchup is super important too though, cydra V lightsworn was really cool and entertaining because there was usually important card interactions and a back and forth going on, I don't mean to compare future content to sealed only but they were the positive things people generally liked and could be carried forward while still mixing it up, love the Channel, thanks for the content Ruggles ! 👑

XD Sorry to hear your version would just be this one episode though! Perhaps adding stakes to the contest or using decks which have a bit of backstory to them could help spice up the formula and give it a bit more drama.

Eagle Boosters with a single Engage are a good engine for decks that hard lose to a single hand trap, like Nordic or anything Isolde- of Halqi-dependant.

A tripple structure deck tournament to determine what the best structure deck ever released is. It also answers the question which triple structure deck to take to a tournament and be successful. So you must play according to the banlist at the time of release. You have a side deck and can alter your deck each round.

Lol... ok well that was a great representation of modern ygo 🤣 Ok so here's what I'd love to see, you and Mario play decks from the past. Like Six Sam, mermaids, PK Fire, kozmos, dragon ruler, spell books, inzector, Fire fist, metalfoes, wind ups, hero, black wings, Luna lights, ghostricks... but you don't have to worry about a banlist. You get to play the decks as they were on release, as long as the card is in archetype it's legal. And the decks you get to play should be either decided by the community or by a randomizer wheel. Sounds like a cool way to relive older decks as most of us don't get to see these any more due to the high pace games we play now. I look forward to seeing what you come up with. Love your content

Honestly long turn 1 win combos like both of these decks are my least favorite part of modern Yugioh since they essentially make the match dependent on the RNG die roll, like you guy joked about lol, but your hilarious banter and chemistry combined with perfect editing still made this one of the most funny and entertaining Yugioh videos I've watched in a long time, I'm so excited to see more from this series! I really like this series, i understand that modern yugioh its kind of aggresive and with not too much turns to play, but its brutal to see well designed and functional decks in a normal enviroment played by you guys, you can actually make a series with 2 and 2 matches, 2 matches pre sideboard (1 starting in every side) and 2 with sideboard, something like that haha. Hopefully you can still do this series, because it looks very nice!

Sealed Only Series 2 starting from different structure decks AND you're not allowed to use any other sets you opened in Series 1. Also please keep releasing this series. Obviously I cannot speak for everybody but I still really enjoyed watching this. I loved getting to watch two separate powers just flex their respective muscles.

Alternatively (and I've seen this echoed in other comments) you could do something like the Gauntlet but the decks have to be Pure. So no Halq unless it is specifically a Crystron deck, or no airplanes in a Warrior deck.

I think the gauntlet series is a good idea, but it definitely needs change. I think the best way to go about it while still keeping the vibe is making old deck archetype, or one that is extremely underpowered, and try making them more modern. Random deck each week, you two could make a wheel for the ones you think is underpowered or never played. Doesnt have to be pure archetype, as long as the main boss monsters and plays are the archetype. Some examples would include: Alien Lockdown (Look at hardleg joe for how it works.) Koa'ki Meiru (Has real potential I swear.) Blackwings (Probably the strongest contender of the suggestions I gave because of the newest armor master.) You get the Jist, good vibes, fun seeing uknown or barely used archetypes pop off against one another using modern Yu-Gi-Oh strategies. Hope you read this and I hope it helps!

Here’s a weird but interesting idea but call it something like the structure league where you both buy (sealed or singles) of structure decks that have appeared throughout yugioh’s history starting with the very first 2 all the way up to current. And to make it more interesting you both have to pilot both decks. For example ruggle would pilot the water structure deck for one match and mario the fire with the following match you each swap decks. But there’s also one more rule and that is if there’s one structure deck that was more powerful than the other and was deemed too powerful you can keep the deck instead of moving to the next one. The idea is that there’s only been so many structure decks in yugioh’s history so that can help make things a bit slower.

While I could suggest something like playing older formats for a series like this, that might not always be up everyone's alley. But weird deck building restrictions and stipulations might be fun. I think it would be cool that whatever cards you use, it can only be used for that duel. For instance in the best of seven. If you had Ash Blossom, Monster Reborn, or upstart goblin in your deck.You are no longer able to use those cards anymore for the next 6 games. This makes it so that your ability to deck build will be tested and their will be more back and forth as you pick and choose when to use certain strategies with your decks

What if you guys did the same series using a random generator to pick amongst different eras of Yugioh? That way the decks are fresh and equal chances of comp are made 😂. Idk just a thought. Maybe even use a random generator to pick decks for the two of you? Forces you guys to play around different styles of play? I'm bad at this 😂😂😂

I love the idea of the gauntlet, but instead of using different decks that you would use in a competitive aspect, why not continue the gauntlet with archetype specific decks!, like pure vendreads vs pure d-hero’s, just use pure decks and play them and this series may continue or even a new “pure” series!
