I still don't really feel like they were ever not friends. Sure, Itou was supposed to keep an eye out for any detractors, but until Yugiri started helping Kiichi gain traction, he was more or less seen as a hopeless case or an annoyance even. Not saying what Yugiri did was bad, but more or less a just unfortunate set of circumstances. They were really close, and close friends don't always have to share the exact same ideals.

they were still friends, Itou never wanted to hurt Kiichi but it was his duty to prevent a rebellion. also I don't really see it as the afterlife but as Yuugiri dreaming about everyone from that time which is why they're doing the choreography dance moves.

Drop by to see me, even in hell” I thought a lot about that part of the song after watching her backstory EDIT For context: Mitsuse Pass is a mountain pass which was one of the busiest points of travel between Hizen (now Saga) prefecture and Chikuzen (now Fukuoka) prefecture. Tawarazaka is a former guard station between what is now Saga and Nagasaki prefectures which marked the official line between the daimyo-held lands of Hizen and the imperial controlled port of Nagasaki, these two points are often considered two of the "four corners" of Saga prefecture. Yugiri told Kiichi to go through Mitsuse Pass and take a boat from Hakata to Nagasaki in order to leave Saga

If you go back and focus on Tae in all the previous performances, even going back to season one, you can see a really big improvement in her dancing skills. In Sakura’s arc at the end of season 1 we even saw that she painstakingly trained Tae to follow a beat and do dance moves, and you can see her motor skills improve to the point that she can dance perfectly with everyone else, and even play the drumset

To be fair, I'd actually chalk that up to being intentional: Season 1 is while they're still rough and learning what to do so... choppier more rigid animation is actually a good way to convey that (Spider-verse somewhat did this too) Season 2 they're more well versed and more coordinated.

One thing I absolutely adore about this series: Each character getting a time to shine AND a song... but their individual songs are very reflective of their individual personalities, with everybody else joining in. Which alone doesn't sound like much but with the variety of personalities involved ranging from childish Lily to the ex-courtesan Yugiri... it's leads to a unique variety of music.

I cannot express enough how good this story arc was. Let alone the excitement I had when I saw all of my girls in the Meiji-era coats and hats. Probably my favorite song from the series and I was glad it was incorporated into the story after the music video short. That and after Suisei’s beautiful take on the song.
