That was visually stunning. I love all types of fighter combat. But that was great because of aircraft design, sense of flight, and sound. My only nitpick* was the typical anime/movie missiles. The simple truth is if they miss, they miss. And if they miss, they self destruct. Having any missile turn around and hunt for targets is a great way to cause a blue on blue or even shoot yourself down. *Because I’ve been an air combat nerd since Richard Nixon was President. To the point that I’ve been a developer on several series of air combat board games covering WWII to the Gulf War.

That was on purpose. In the original novel, the protagonist overrode the minimum safety range (which is 450 meters, and it's a short-range AAM with hybrid passive/active homing capabilities, and is designed to intercept alien unmanned aircraft capable of 15+g maneuvers with minimal issues). Even when the aircraft fire control system stopped transmitting guidance data to the missile when it got to less than 200 meters from the protagonist's aircraft which should've locked the detonator, the missile's onboard sensors detected the target to be close enough and detonated the missile regardless. Also helps that the protagonist's aircraft has a sentient AI onboard to assist with the guidance.

Meteor retracks a Target after a Miss if Datalinked to a Typhoon, AWACS or Gripen, big upside of a Dual-Mode ARH/SARH Ramjet Missile as opposed to a normal Missile. With the Technology they seem to have in the Anime i wouldn't be suprised if their Missile is just that.

There ARE new designs that return if they miss. Missiles are getting smarter and smarter these days. They lock on after launch as well in case of stealth fighters. After all can't be stealthy with missile hanging outside, so missile locks on after it enters the airstream

@@Max_Da_G If you’d like to give examples of which missiles have this ability? Because otherwise I’d have to say that there is zero chance that there are AAMs that will pull a 180° turn and re-acquire, let alone re-engage, their original target. Just the energy loss from that reversal will almost guarantee that the missile has no ability to intercept a maneuvering target. And that’s before you even consider the incredible risk of a blue on blue situation. With modern planes that use an internal weapons bay the missile is told exactly where to look before the bay even opens. It receives that data from whichever sensor system is appropriate. With the F-22 a missile will get everything it needs from the radar/HMS/whatever even as the door pops open and it slides down the launch rail.

If you haven't seen the series, Yukikaze is a reconnaissance unit, and it and Lt Fukai's mission is to only collect battle data, not to actually join the battle or engage the enemy. (In this case it was self defense, but even then his actions still come under review.) The tactics and even the fighters of the enemy (known as the JAM) are constantly changing and evolving. Therefore the collection of the battle data is prioritized even over the lives of the other friendlies; Rei is not to intervene in any event. Recon gets the newest and best equipment first, and Yukikaze is so advanced that it is much more than just the next generation fighter compared to the actual air force. Because of all that, none of these guys like Rei and some are openly hostile to him. So that's one of his fellow pilots telling him to go to hell.

It's a shame that it was shut down for obvious reasons: - It was only available on the PS3. - It was strictly free-to-play, but there was heavy microtransactions. - The PS3 was on its last days of being on active support by Sony until eventually, the PS4 and 5 stepped in.

@@BuceGar This scene is from Episode 1. You're getting it confused with the scene in Episode 4 when they encounter another Super Sylph copy. That's the part where Yukikaze fires a missile at herself to prevent capture until the JAM kick them back into normal space.
