Love this. So unlike what comes from China, or even Japan. The weirdness of it is so unlike what you hear from those two countries. There seems to be more string bending, use of a bow and emphasis on percussion. Which are qualities found in Western rock music, and thus very contemporary and modern. All the instrumentation, the flutes, horns, zither, drums combine to make a fantastic sound. I get and love this music!

The Hanboks worn by the woman and the native dress worn by the men, give this performance the beauty and dignity it deserves. Korea received much of its culture from pre Ching Dynasty China, but they preserved it better then the Chinese themselves, and placed their own unique stamp on it. In fact its in Korea that the original Confucian rites, with their dances and music were lovingly preserved. Korea also has preserved ancient court music, and what in Chinese is known as Yayue, ancientCourt music and dances. These were large orchestras with large dance ensembles used in palaces. These art forms are extinct in China, but there are presently attempts to recreate them. Japan has the oldest continuous living Court dance and music tradition on earth. Gagaku and bugaku. Which were only performed for the imperial family and not shown to the public until the military occupation after the war. We have Japan and Korea to thank for safeguarding and keeping these traditions alive so we can get a glimpse of what these performances were like back during the T'ang, Sung and Ming, in China.
