Z1 Motorsports - Clutches and Flywheels

Unsprung full face clutch and lightweight flywheel purchased and installed. Clutch is not an on/off switch like he said. It is very able to be daily driven. Clutch pedal does have a much better and stronger feel. Definitely grabs a little harder being unsprung but for the most part I’m very happy with it. Much more drivable than the 6 puck would have been. Figured I would comment because I was definitely looking in the comments when I bought mine.

Hows the chatter with that single mass flywheel? Aren't flywheels supposed to be heavy in order to store energy while spinning?

Ed Cadiri at low idle rpm it will be more pronounced than a somewhat worn factory dual mass flywheel, however if the flywheel damper is completely worn it won’t be much worse IMO.

My jdm slicktop tt is making a metal friction noise only when clutch is pressed in. Pilot bushing? A shop here in wa wants to charge 6-700 a tranny exhaust and clutch maintenance? Does this all sound right?

i think it's one of those things that were just gonna have to deal with due to design my 04 z chatters and my 08 whines like a 2 year old

The "chatter" you're hearing isn't actually the clutch moving around, its the internals of the transmission. Usually an OE setup is heavy, therefor more weight through the entire rotating assembly, which helps dampen the sounds of the transmission. By putting on a lighter setup this will cause the internals to make more noise. Nothing wrong with this, just takes some getting used to.

Have your tuner bump the idle rpm up maybe 100. It may smooth it out enough for you.

@@torvarrisevans3961 honestly i ended up switching to a sprung clutch because Z1 didn’t have that item in stock and that was the only part missing so i told them to switch it out with what they had available because my car was just sitting.. midweight flywheel pressure plate sprung clutch this kit feels like a stage 2 kit. it’s dailyable for sure but i would probably get unsprung next time just to try it you know?

my first thought would be the throwout bearing. If he is replacing your clutch and doing some maintenance to your exhaust, the 6-700 figure sounds like a good deal. btw, nice car.
