There's, of course, a chance that the mods still would've existed going over the official renditions, but from what I've seen of the modding community, it would've been much less likely.

Hi, REMIX dev here! Thank you for showcasing the Sonic cast! The team did reeeally good with them honestly, they're so fun. Also, as Julian mentioned Tails will get a rework someday, we're aware that he's not good looking currently. Now I have no hands on any of the characters' movesets personally here (except most of Silver's recolors, and the Super recolors which weren't featured), so all credit goes to the rest of the team on here! Gotta love how Sakurai revealed Knuckles Assist Trophy early on, only to blindside people by bringing back Shadow as an Assist Trophy anyway and thrice in Smash history along with Lyn, Samurai Goroh and Waluigi (Poor Isaac didn’t even get to be in Smash 4), and you know what’s even sadder? They're all pretty similar and all have the potential of being a fun addition and representing the Sonic franchise well. I wouldn't mind any of then. I really wish Sonic had more of a priority in smash. Like having more reps included every game. I understand why not though, Sega didn't even respect these characters until recently. At the very least I would love for Tails, Knuckles and Shadow to be included. Tails and Knuckles are part of the original trio and Shadow is an iconic counterpart to Sonic. They all have similar builds to Sonic plus Shadow and Knuckles models were already made.

My personal Smash roster has Shadow, Tails, Knuckles, Eggman, Silver and Amy all joining Sonic. My Shadow moveset is practically what's shown in this video, same with Knuckles. Tails pulls from various SSF2 versions and Silver is a mix of what's shown here and more direct moves from Sonic Project 06. I gave Eggman and Amy good movesets too, with inspiration from various articles online.

Brawl Metaknight has multiple double jumps and like 4 recovery options with his special moves with up special having its own glide as well, the independent glide ability was pretty overkill. Meanwhile P+ Knuckle's glide takes up his side special and isn't that broken since it can't be angled and P+ Pit and ROB have similar side specials as well.

Honestly, I really can't wait for a Tails rework in PMEX. Right now, his Smash Flash 2 iteration is pretty bad. You mentioned a good recovery, but his jumps barely give him any vertical height, giving him one of the most gimpable recoveries in the game. He's also not too fast and he's only really good with aerial combos, but his jumps are so bad that it can get really difficult to do them. His PMEX moveset looks like it might have more potential, it's just the animations that look a little janky. I've also been working on my own hypothetical moveset for Tails with a couple more references to his own games like Tails Adventure and Tails Skypatrol (sorry Tails and the Music Maker fans), though I think there's still work. I'm holding off finishing it just in case Frontiers gives him some new moves. But besides that, I hope to see a fangame give Tails a moveset that represents him nicely, but also makes him a viable character to play, as he is my most wanted fighter for Smash.

Shadow being Sonic's Echo Fighter would make no sense since SA2 started because everyone was dumb enough to believe that Shadow and Sonic were the same. It would make more sense for Sonic's Echo Fighter to be Classic Sonic and make him like Young Link, being smaller and faster but nowhere near as strong.
