Although he wouldn’t have any other evidence but I’m sure it could still be helpful in some way. I got mad that I couldn't figure out the original price in my head. At first I figured that half of 30k is 15k and that would be 20% of the original price. 15k x 5 = 75k. But that ain't right because 40% of 75k is 30k - 75k = 45k so not correct. So then I just guessed 50k put in my calc and yup. 40% of 50k is 20k - 50k = 30k :)

Hmm, seems like a kinda reframing of the million dollar button problem, where you're spending money to save people rather than getting money for killing people. I wonder if the limit for picking people over money would be different in these scenarios, assuming that the kidnapped family wouldn't know you were the one that saved them. At least in my case, I wouldn't press the button to kill unless the money I get could save a lot more lives or make a lot more lives better (around 1 million it turns out), but I wouldn't press the button to save people for any higher than ~2k (and assuming my intervention is actually a long-term solution)

@@isaakvandaalen3899 No, i guess. I've been feeling distant recently. Maybe I should be happy instead, since I recently got a job that I love and received my first paycheck. I don't know, i'm not close with my friends as I have been before and im beginning to speak less and less in class. All my cross-continent friends are gone too. Thanks to an urgent surgery I had to go through, I missed 3 social sessions where I could have caught up with old friends and attend an event with my classmates before a big holiday. Wether my friends just got bored of me or its my fault that I didnt talk to them much, i dont know. In short, it sucks. I also found out that money really can't fill that empty void that used to be memories of time with friends, contrary to my original belief that my job would solve it and occupy myself and my mind. For family its the opposite. I love them and appreciate how they often try to get me to talk with them about my troubles. They engage with us alot and really support us. Maybe im just ignoring that support and instead I go off doing my own things. I also made a person I liked mad. I havent talked to her in 4 months and im beginning to forget about her, but she always comes back to haunt me. Am i just being edgy? Is it all my fault? Am I just lonely and over-exaggerating it? I dont know. Maybe. I'm uncertain about alot of things, especially my future. Covid fucked it up. Covid fucked up alot of things, but i cant put all my faults on the virus, and thats what probably disturbs me. I dont really have much to blame since I know it would be unreasonable. Kinda like a kettle boiling over. I know this job won't be able to support me, its just something to take my mind off all my troubles. If you managed to read this much, thanks I guess.

Fun fact for all the gringos out there: in Brazil, there's this scam call that someone would call and say "oh, we have your son, take money to this place so we can release him". A lot of people did (and still do) fall for this. I never got a call like that, but a few people just answer with "shoot 'em, I never liked him" and I always was afraid I would just hang up and it was a real kidnapping, but they just got the wrong number.
