With how often the helmets pop off, why not just allow the players to take them off like back in the day since it will reduce the chance of them breaking their hands.

I think they are more concerned about guys falling and breaking their skulls on the ice, because nowadays there is a lot more wrestling and pretty much every fight ends with someone slammed into the ice.
