@@zacktelander hello, Sir! Thank you very much for your content. I started to do oly lifting month ago for my athletic performance and I find that clean and jerk is much better in that regard, exactly because of: - easier technique - more weights can be used - easier to develop (as push press and front squat are already in athletic S&C program vs OH squat like for snatch supplementary movement for e.g.) - and stance, hand position (narrow) and split stance for jerk is much more carryover to athletic performance as sprint, jump etc. So, I think If athlete of any sport can do Oly twice per week for e.g. maybe instead of 1xSnatch and 1×C&J to focus only on C&J different variations and get really good and proficient at it? What do you think? Thx a lot❤

My high school football team started us as freshman with snatch, power clean, dead lift, Bench was our daily big 4 with auxiliary after. As freshman we do just the bar until we learned proper techniques then we can add little weight. You couldn’t go past like 15 pounds until sophomore year. I’m glad we learned these things cause I can understand the movements and feel when I feel awkward or where I’m weak. I think those three movements (squats, power cleans, and snatch) are what helped me become very explosive.

I've been training for about a year now. My strength has increased tremendously. At first I got in the gym because the dr told me a few budged discs from a motorcycle accident I had would cause me pain when I'm older. Then I got into the old habit of wanting to train my athleticism so I can get my vert north of 45 inches. Then it evolved into powerlifting and strength oriented training. Now that it's been a couple of months after my anniversary and I've developed an okay amount of strength I took an interest in OLY lifts. I've been working on my mobility so I'm able to complete these movements safely and effectively while garnering all of the information and experience I can under a barbell so I can make a nice transition to these lifts. Thanks for these videos dude. I should have all I need by the time I decide to transition.

As I commented in the past, I only wish I could have incorporated weightlifting movements like this when I was playing football. Playing line for Princeton, I would have benefited from both the increased power development, and the range of motion required. Even at 60, improving my lifts and associated overhead squat, snatch balance etc have added immeasurably to my over physical condition and quality of life

I learned the snatch maybe 6 or 7 years ago. Didn’t stick with it in my training because of how much mobility it needed. Never even knew about the Power Snatch. Learned about it from your video with Alan Thrall, now I can’t wait to incorporate it!

what would be a disadvantage/insufficiency of using high pulls for athletic performance? Power generation is there, just missing turnover which is not much useful outside of weightlifting for anything other than general coordination development.

Pavel Petukhov wow someone who actually gets it! The high pull is the only O lift that I would prescribe to an athlete for the more difficult lifts take too much coordination to learn and are utterly a waste of time, there are much simpler exercises that can build power in a athlete that also provide the same results if not superior! Don’t do O lifts unless you want to compete!

Hi there, as usual, good content, surely helpful for your target group. I wonder what your view is on doing this with a kettlebell instead, for sports that have a more unilateral focus(for example boxing)alternatively, why not skip the snatch and do a snatch pull/clean pull for someone whose goal is not weightlifting but only the power advantage that it holds?

I'd argue the increase allowance of weight is negated by the limited range of movement. The clean without a jerk loses out on any real overhead strength and stability.
@toomuch97625 жыл бұрын
Honestly for athletic performance all someone has to do is clean/snatch pull/high pulls from ground and hang. Thats where all the benefits lie. “Catching” a weight is a skill and not really applicable to any sport. After that all an athlete needs to do is front squats or overhead squats
@MrSmurf4595 жыл бұрын
too much clean and snatch are not required for athletes, the only O lift that I’d prescribe to an athlete is the high pull because the snatch and clean requires a certain amount of coordination that may take too long to learn and is just a waste of time, also the flexibility required for the O lifts is another issue I wouldn’t even want to talk about!
@toomuch97625 жыл бұрын
MrSmurf459 that’s basically what I’ve said. The power comes from the pull and extension. Catching the weights is just a skill in of itself. But any athlete should have the mobility to squat and overhead squat to full dept. mobility is key to everything athletic

I personally feel the methodology (Bulgarian/ussr) is the best takeaway for sports athletes and found my rugby team benefited from the style of training rather than the lifts themselves, just look at Westside barbell and other conjugate style training used in sports
@rhysharvey47795 жыл бұрын
By Bulgarian you mean what exactly? How is that methodology applied for strength training to rugby and what does it look like in practice?
@oliversnelling70645 жыл бұрын
rafael m so I mean the idea of pushing the athlete to the extreme, obviously they don’t train Bulgarian as they don’t have time for that but we use their ideas and adapt it so they have time to recover for games etc. Instead of using Olympic lifts though we address direct weak points like the hamstrings/glutes/low back/chest/shoulders with lifts that address these areas directly and then test absolute strength with timed sled drags/pushes or back/front squats you know that kind of thing, does that make sense?
@mikesiszka52995 жыл бұрын

3:04 why did you wrote jump and pull, there is no jump in weightlifting, it has similar mechanics to a triple extension at the end of a 2nd pull and prior to pull under, the way I see it if a beginner who is not familiar with the oympic technique he/she will literally jump in the air during full extension raising the hips too high above the ground leaving them with the slower turnover, the best lifters in the world who have totally different 3rd pull like aukhadov (stomping) and Lu (sliding) don't jump and have the front part of the shoes always in contact with the ground at the apex of the full extension and just as they reach full knee extension they explode down under the bar, if they literally jumped at that point they would float in the air with knees extended and their upper body getting height and wasting the time to get under it, hey Zack no hate but that's just the way I see it with my own eyes just look at the slow motion competition lift
