What I loved about Tiberian Sun was the variety of Tiberium-based wildlife that infested Earth at that time period. There was like a whole new ecosystem that took over the original Earth flora and fauna, and combined with the rather atmospheric lighting and weather effects it was quite a unique C&C game in the series. I’m kind of wanting to load it up and play it again after watching this video. Thanks man, keep up the good work. 👍
@KertaDrake3 жыл бұрын
The lack of the new ecosystem was the main bad point for Tiberium Wars to me... It felt like they abandoned an amazing setting. Of course, they did some beautiful stuff with the crystalline wasteland motif, but still... Tiberium Fiends were good doggos.
@finegamingconnoisseur3 жыл бұрын
@@KertaDrake Yeah I agree, it's a pity they didn't bring the ecosystem back in Tiberium Wars. It would've looked awesome in the 3D engine. One thing they did pretty well was the Tiberium growing in detail, seeing the crystal veins extend outwards and pods begin to form and get larger. 🙂

This game has hard campaign as far of hard difficulty. Just played Nod campaign on hard and i played every mission. Now i am in GDI mission 8. Skirmishes indeed are hard, you should slow the gamespeed. You learn better that way because you can think little bit longer. Worth mentioning also is that AI cheats in skirmishes. AI knows the whole map without radar and AI knows where your troops are. AI also has massive amount of funds compared to player. No matter if i destroy their harvesters, AI has funds to buy 10 new refinerys and same time AI build buildings and train more troops. There is unofficial patch to fix this AI cheating. AI doesn't have like 25,000 in start (CnCnet forums somebody told that TS/FS AI have 25,000 in start when you have 10,000). You should patch that if you have trouble to beat AI in hard difficulty. Enjoy your gaming sessions and remember, ENJOY! :)

Kucan and Klepacki were a dream team. Also an interesting note: EA wanted the soundtrack of TS to sound distinctively more melody-focused and less complex in terms of rhythm, so they asked (or dictated?) Westwood to work with Jarrid Mendelson (for example Pharotek, Lone Trooper, Scouting, The Defense) and you can hear that very easily. Heck, Klepacki even re-wrote some of the original pieces for the Twisted Insurrection mod, while the community (re-)made the majority of tracks.

My brother and I put years into playing it and even worked with the modding community on it and RA2/YR through high school. Twisted Insurrection is absolutely worth the download, but expect a steep learning curve and much less forgiving AI compared to vanilla TS/Firestorm. The Twisted Dawn game mode is an incredible love letter to the original C&C for longtime fans. Also check out Shattered Paradise on PPM if you have OpenRA. For me, I think one of the things that keeps me coming back to this title (as well as Red Alert 2) is the fact that it seems like a pure RTS experience for me. When I play a game like SC2, even in the campaign, there is such a dizzying number of options/abilities for each unit that each match ends up feeling like a heart attack. With Westwood games I can kick back and have a relaxing, yet still very enjoyable and engaging, RTS experience and I haven't played any other RTS's that come close to duplicating that.

I really appreciate your reflection on this game friend. The one thing you did not mention in why it is so popular is because it was *very* easy to mod. There was even a third party mod editor which really was unique and acted as the entry to many people to learn how to mod. The skills I learned just from messing around as a child have helped me learn programming as a whole and served as a very great entry tool to learn the art.

Yeah, you don't have tooltips telling you what each unit or building does, however this is because you were expected to play campaign, where they gradually introduce all the new tech with each mission, and there's introduction for each, kinda like they did in later games (Red Alert 1-2 for example). However I do understand how it would be confusing and overwhelming for people who just try it for the first time now, but back then we were kinda use to this, it was fairly common in every RTS of the time, because campaign basically serves as glorified tutorial to teach you how to play the game. I heard there's total conversion mod for C&C3 where they rebuilt Tib Sun missions and storyline?

When you talked about the game's graphics, I was expecting you would mention the big disappointment that reviewers and gamers had at that time here, as the pre-release screenshots of the game were manipulated, making the game look better than it actually was. Westwood took a big backlash for that back then, which is more than understandable. I bought the game on release day and it indeed resulted in a soured first impression. I remember how a game magazine did a screenshot analysis back then, pointing out every single detail which was just manipulated eye candy that did not really exist in the game. Whenever gamers have a discussion about broken promises by developers, Tiberian Sun is very likely to be mentioned. I'm not saying this to bash fans of the game or your video, which is indeed great and in-depth, but because it's so detailed, I was surprised to not see this big controversy being mentioned. :)
@Jace-xw3ly2 жыл бұрын
"Whenever gamers have a discussion about broken promises by developers, Tiberian Sun is very likely to be mentioned." Funny, Tib Sun was my first C&C game, got it a few months after release...and in all that time until now, never heard of this nothingburger of a "controversy".
@kyur38132 жыл бұрын
@@Jace-xw3ly Probably because it was your first C&C. The first 2 C&C games were smash hits and the 3rd game was talked about and hyped with screenshots in magazines for a long time while being delayed again and again, which created even more anticipation. On which the game could not deliver. It's great that you had fun with the game, but a lot of people who played and enjoyed the first two were disappointed. I bought it on release day and regretted. There's a reason why C&C Remastered focussed on the first 2 games and was welcomed by players with open arms, as these are the games most people think of when they hear "C&C". Having said that, it's great that you had fun with the 3rd and nobody wants to or can take that fun and fond memories of yours with that game way.

Damn Zade, good talk, good talk. You took me back man. Absolutely love C&C II - Tibsun, great game. Of all the Command & Conquer games Tibsun holds a special place in my heart for two big reasons: 1) Fun fact, my birthday IS Sept 2, soo way back in the ole' year of 1998 guess what game my best bud Chuck bought me for my B-day lol? The war LITERALLY began on my birthday lol; talk about immersion 2) Of all the C&Cs Tibsun had probably one of the most interesting environmental models in terms of graphics and realistic physics. Its true the newer games 'supposedly' have 'better graphics' whatever the hell that even means nowadays. I liked Tibsun because what other game in the C&C universe could ice freeze over and change tactical movement in arctic areas? Dangerous Tiberian-based lifeforms that can kill everything? We got those. Dynamic weather patterns complete with Ion storms that could down BOTH friendly and enemy aircraft at any time? Just the fact that you had the whole dynamic of... , I set off explosives and blow giant holes in the ground I thought was one of the coolest aspects of Tibsun. I can recall numerous MP games where that actually was a tactic. We would frustrate our friends and my cousins cause my friend Chuck would play GDI and I would play Nod and, I would 'build' these epic trenches with Nod artillery where it took vehicles and like infantry an entire minute to climb the incredibly steep walls, and basically Chuck would sit at the top of the hill and use Disc Grenadiers to rain down hell on everyone from really high up. If you force-fire the terrain with GDI grenadiers because in Tibsun they 'glide' he could kill all sorts of stuff that would normally outclass us from extreme distance cause they'd bounce ALL the way down the giant chasm of a trench. It was hilarious. Good times.

Hey dude! Saw you picked up on the cheesy vibe of the cutscenes and wondered if this was done intentionally, I can tell you that it was intentional! The guy who directed the FMVs in Sun, Red Alert, the original C&C and Red Alert 2 is actually the actor who plays Kane, Joe Kucan! Everything I've seen of the guy is great, and I absolutely adore the vibe of the FMVs in the games that he directed (Which is everything up to C&C3)! Great video, I love this game!

@@Zade_95 if you want to you, can try out RA2, but I don't think you can really buy into the nostalgia of other people. I also love RA2 & its expansion, as lackluster as that was, but I only became attached to the game because it was my first RTS. Red Alert existed before RA2, but I didn't give a shit because it wasn't my first. You probably have better TS memories and, hey, more power to you! I have to say though that in my experience playing both (not played TS as much as RA2) that RA2 appears more polished. Graphics and unit movement animations look smoother. Updated game mechanics that I don't think TS has like garrisoning civilian buildings and capturing neutral buildings w/ an engineer like oil derricks. Gameplay too is better. I can be A LOT faster in RA2 than I can be in TS cuz TS doesn't have keyboard shortcuts and mouse operations. The only thing RA2 doesn't have are cool units. It has quite a bit of new technology, but not as much as TS appears to have.

Red Alert 2 was one of my favorite games in my childhood. Tiberian Sun was the last C&C game I played (I do not include so-called C&C 4 in the list) and I have never realized what I've been missing. I finished the GDI campaign only yesterday and oh boy, I enjoyed it so much. Story cutscenes with Micheal Biehn, unique Firestorm mechanics, futuristic walkers, completely different factions compared to Tiberian Dawn, and awesome music sending you right back to the early 2000s. I guess it is my favorite C&C game now. My only complaint about this game is a lack of categories for units and buildings like in RA2. But in every other direction, I got so much more than I was expecting.

@@Zade_95 very very late reply but the main reason for this is mainly due to an engine limitation where it would take up too much on screen if it was actual sized as well as not being able to move around the map very well with decent enough pathfinding ( which would be realistic given its size but also frustrating for players)

uhhhhhggghh, stealth in rts's have always been bad in my opinion, and no I don't mean in the sense of setting up an ambush or hitting the enemy with an unexpected attack, but in terms of having a stealth unit remain undetected, it's mostly staying away from detectors.

It’s worth mentioning that Tiberium Sun was developed at a time when games were bought as a physical CD that came with a manual. This game was no exception. It came with a manual that gave a lot of depth to the world as well as a poster that clearly laid out the tech tree. More modern games don’t have this and so they need to provide this information in the UI.

Tiberian Sun felt like the black sheep of the franchise (not counting Tiberian Twilight). It was ambitious to a fault, given how many of its mechanics were a bit arbitrary and it was really difficult, even for Westwood game standards. My main C&C squeeze of the era will always be Red Alert 2, but I'm always intrigued to revisit Tiberian Sun when I can, until I reach a fork in the mission structure and I pick the wrong one. I hope for a remaster that allows mission selection akin to the 2020 remaster of C&C and Red Alert 1, along with some quality of life features.
