I like this. Granted, I don't listen to a solo like this as music, I'm just blown away by the technical proficiency/consistency. I get that it's not for everyone but he's great at what he does. I'll listen to Dave Gilmour if I want a soulful solo that does more with a single note than most do with the whole fretboard but I think some people need to appreciate that there is a place for this kind of stuff. Too much snobbery and elitism everywhere regarding shredding, like it's not even impressive. Watching these freestyle footballers juggle with a ball in extraordinary ways is impressive as fuck. Fair enough, they're not 'real players' but that doesn't take away from how talented they are. Same with this: just appreciate it for what it is: a young guy (only 22 at this time!) who had most of the crowd in the palm of his hand for 10 minutes because of the dedication he put in to his craft. Surely the work ethic alone deserves some respect?

I was telling people about the gobbing thing, which is why I looked up this video. I saw Ozzy with Zakk, Dec 30th 1988 in Long Beach Ca. (Lita Ford and Anthrax opened) and during the solo section he stood out on the end of the "runway" and "raced" the revolving spot lights overhead and the audience clapping... and then started to gob huge loogies straight up into the air and catching them on his own chest on the way down. People have told me I was hallucinating, never happened etc.

Several of the more melodic parts of this are straight outta’ Frank Marino’s bag of tricks, and it’s more than just influence. If ZW didn’t acknowledge FM as one of the greats (which he does, in the spirit of great artists think alike, it’s O.K. to borrow with attribution, and standing on the shoulders of, etc.) it could be considered outright appropriation.
