I was "in that movie!" :) - they filmed like all of the various concerts in a theater close to the old Ryman Auditorium and my brother and cousin and I (all punky kids) were in the audience and I won a door prize (a world radio that had a short band feature) and they called my ticket number and I got to shake hands with Richard Thomas on my way up to the stage haha. We have NEVER found ourselves in the audience and was always hoping a Blu-Ray would come out so I could step through those concert scenes. They would change the stage a bit and Richard's looks and they shuffled the audience around all the time. My younger brother was staring into the camera one time when it came down the aisle so I am sure we got cut out. Still, was so cool to see how they make these things in person.

Hank was a better Man than people remember - he had business sense and - made arrangements for his unborn daughter whose mother Hank had met and had a brief relationship with -Hank was not married to Jrs mother when he died - Hank divorced her - she bought the " Hank Williams widow" label for - wait for it - 30,000$ in 1952 - she wasn't no dummy ! Hank had remarried to the love of his life - sadly her future husband ,Johnny Horton , died in a car accident - one he predicted ..... People should know the true story - it's almost too crazy to believe ! PS - How do you get Randall Hank jr from Hiram Henry ?

If Hank Sr. was still alive, I bet he would have helped Hank Jr.'s life and career and support him through the rough times he was going through after badly scarring his face while mountain climbing. He would also be proud of his son's performances, especially with the final one at the end of the film. Because "If Heaven Ain't A Lot Like Dixie" was released in April 1982, and Hank Sr. was born on September 17 1923, he would have been 58.

Naomi Judd was a knockout of course. Richard sings on the Hank Sr songs and Hank Jr sings on his songs. In case you’re wondering about the different sound. This is just a tv movie but it really captures the feeling and emotion of Hank Jr, and that’s why I like it. It’s kind of sad in a lot of ways, but it shows Hank Jrs great ability and talent, and yes I put him up there with his daddy absolutely.

Maybe Richard wasn't best choice for lead role in this semi-biopic made for TV movie. I, too, kept visioning John Boy Walton but, Richard is a great actor none the less and height and weight differences between him and Hank JR didn't bother me like it bothered the majority of commenters. What bothered me most was trying to pass Richard off singing when it was obvious that he wasn't . Now look at Sissy Spacek who got the role of a lifetime playing Loretta Lynn and she made that role REAL- played and sang Loretta's songs herself!

That is NOT the way he had his mountain accident. He says he was the third to climb up an area covered in snow and it shifted causing him to fall. It wasn’t some little twig breaking off. He fell 545 feet and said he heard the thud when he hit his head on a rock. First thing he did was check his hands to see if they were intact so he could play guitar. That’s when he realized his head was gushing blood and not having any clue as to the real extent that his brain was exposed from hitting his head on rock. He never lost consciousness and doctors told him that’s what saved his life. He remembers everything and says he still dreams about the fall. Very very lucky man
