I don't think it's possible to truly explain what those soundtracks and videos make me feel. they transport me back in time and make me want to cry. I started playing WoW the week TBC was released, back in january 2007. I just turned 14, was in 8th grade, and absolutely hated my class and my school. I had only a select few friends, with almost no one to call a true, close friend, and was low-key bullied and laughed at quite a lot. nothing too extreme, I did have my small group of friends and people I hang with, but it was enough to drop my self-esteem to the ground and make me loathe school. by that time, all but 2-3 of my elementary school friends had completely disappeared from my life, and I was largely treated as a laughingstock nerd. For the next 2 years, WoW served as an amazing means of comfort and escapism, a different, exotic and fantastic world to explore, where I could forget everything else and immerse myself in progressing my character, discovering new zones, dungeons, raids, feeling valued and socialize with my fellow guild members in chat & ventrilo, forums, battle the arena, and simply having tons of fun. this game saved me from the "real world" that was shitty and quite lonely for me at the time, and is the best thing I remember from those years. Shortly after I begun highschool and things started getting a bit better, I quit the game for the reminder of the highschool years, and returned in July 2011 just as I finished school. I continued to play until September 2013, and for those 2 years it, again, served as an extremely important part of my life that helped me deal with real-life struggles, gather beautiful & cherished memories and experiences, and this time it was perhaps even more fun, having convinced my best friend to join the game and play with me. for the next half year or so after we finished highschool in 2011, we would stay up until early morning hours every day and play together, talk and laugh TeamSpeak, eventually joining the same raiding guilds and beating bosses together. Since then I only renewed my account for the WoD and Legion expansions' launches, barely playing each of them for a few weeks and quiting. I'm no longer in the same place in my life and have vastly different priorities, and WoW is probably there to lay in the past forever for me now, but I still cherish and miss its universe and memories from it tremendously, just as if it was another, real world. the memories and experiences from WoW mean to me more than most things I experienced in those years, and for me it was very real. Although now life is, objectively, so much better for me than in any other time in my life, it's still very difficult to deal with, now facing the adult world and life and having adopted something-of-a-depression along the way, and I just miss feeling like I can allow myself to be immersed in WoW and escape without any consequences on "real-life" obligations and friendships. just that safe sense of comfort and freedom. Life is inevitably moving forward, and as years go by, I only hold and cherish WoW and its memories even more. it's a part of me and I thank for its existence, and hope for all of you out there it also served and continues to serve as a means of comfort. good night y'all :)

Strangely enough, your story is so similar to mine as well, that I felt I could relate so much. Although, my wow story was also romantic, cause I've met a human mage girl in the elwynn forest, almost getting killed by those Defias cutthroats, so me and my warrior stepped forward and saved her. We talked and decided we need each other and would be more fun to level up together, and my god the mage-warrior duo was unbeatable. We talked a lot on Yahoo messenger back then xD and even took the relationship to a new level, but couldn't meet cause we were so far away from one another and we were teenagers, so we could only be together in-game and through sending pictures of one another. That was back in Wotlk, and we stood together through Cata as well, but after finishing high-school, we were playing less and less, but kept talking on Facebook, although rarely, until I found that she found a boyfriend irl. She told me we could've been together if I lived closer to her, but as we were, it was time to face the truth that it wasn't going to happen. We still have each other as friends on Facebook, haven't talked since, but I enjoy reminiscing about those good memories we had together, role-playing as a couple in Goldshire, or spending hours fishing and talking on the beaches of The Shattered sun isle "forgot it's name". Wow was a part of my life as well, and it eased my teenage years by so much with it's magic world, that I can be weird enough to say I kept all the screenshots we made in a folder dear to me. Wow, you were my paper, me and her were the pen and ink with which we wrote stories together. Thank you!

Ran Hartzfeld I’d like to think heaven will be like the landscapes in wow. Just imagine roaming carefree, in the vast lands of the barrens and stumbling onto mankrik’s wife, basking in the golden sun of Eversong woods, surrounded by the tall trees in grizzly hills, listening to the chopping of lumber and gentle running streams in the background. That would be the kind of eternity I could get on board with.

Zangarmarsh is like a dream. A very lush and unique dream. I remember during TBC times I was instantly sold to this zone, it is so magical with the jungle sounds and all the blue. It was like a holiday itself in the game. I remember when I unsubbed I would go to Zangar to take a tour, then log out and not come back in months. Zangar was special. It's so crazy to read all the comments and see how many people have these deep-seated emotional ties to these WoW zones. The music, bringing us all back to a, should I say, easier time in life. When things weren't so hectic and stressful. Young, no bills, no mortgage. Come home from work/school, smoke a joint and dive right into the fantasy world that was WoW. Life was perfect and this music will always bring me back to those amazing times. Thank you! I'll probably listen to these videos until I die.

I think what makes Zangarmarsh such a good zone is the follow up from hellfire. You expect the demon touched world the Orcs and Ogres come from to be hellish. But Zangar showed that it could be wild exotic dangerous and beautiful when it was wet and lush instead of dry and desolate like the zone before it.

Since I was most into the game in TBC, I'd say it's a tie between Terokkar Forest and Shattrath City(Outland). It's hard to choose, there's a lot of really great background audio in the game! Also, it hurts my heart every time a raider friend says they play without sound due to eliminating distractions, so they go without experiencing this stuff when developing their alts. :(

It takes me back to a time where me and my human warrior would sit by the water and fish listening to the music play while I snuck on around 9pm at night just to play a couple more hours even when I wasn't supposed to. This music and ambience alone brings back so many memories of raids and wpvp and fun times with my old guildmates. It makes me wonder where they all are now and how they are. See I quit at the launch of BFA, I quit at the launch of WoD, I barely played mists and Cata was so absent minded with LFR that most people wouldn't even bother q-ing up together or waiting on eachother. I miss this. I miss the days of BC and WoTLK and Vanilla where the community was the central focus.. not the companies income. It's sad to see the state of my favorite game where I made so many friends online be where it is. I wish we could rewind the clock cause if I compare the summers of my youth sitting and playing wow with friends from school or friends online to summers now where we barely play anything together.. it breaks my heart.

i remember there were some sweet spots such as an arch in a town where people could check their mailboxes, some maxed level mage or hunter would then out of no where start attacking the levellers from there.

I remember in my teenage years.. Had just started doing drugs, and i were leveling in Zangermarsh. This were before my mom died, and my life went completely downhill. Playing WoW, i were blissfully unaware of what was about to happen, and i remember being, well' somewhat happy about roaming Zangermarsh, sitting up all night, listening to music and whatnot. Thinking back now, 24 years old, i should perhaps have spent those teen years getting an education, getting somewhere with my life.. Feels like i completely wasted it. Nonetheless, listening to this music sure is nostalgic, brings back hazy memories. thanks for the video.

I'm sure thousands of players had the same experience.. myself included. But it could have easily gone the other way too, maybe if you didn't have a way to cope with your feelings (like playing WoW) it could have been worse? :) It's amazing that you at least have the insight that there are more valuable things to do, but let's indeed hold on to the happy moments the game gave us in the past and try to go the other way :) Take care!

Dunno, I find all of warcraft artistically inspiring. I wouldn't call these memories a waste of time, since you enjoyed them so much. Other people might have been out with friends, true, or in a shitty night club, wasting their life on pathetic teenage pleasures. It's all a matter of what you find enjoyable. And I do think you found good friends in the game, I am sure, especially back in those young days of wow

Lol thats funny because i remember getting my wisdom teeth pulled and getting a whole bunch of perk 7.5s and i just remember constantly popping them and playing through zangarmarsh and i was as happy as could fucking be... until i developed an opiate addiction lol

I think considering the state of collage/university are in these days perhaps you WERE doing something with your life that was more important: Doing something you liked rather than what others told you, you should like and Do. Nobody does anything without a reason. Only times we do something truly bad or useless is when we lie to uorselves what we really like. Your teenage self didnt lie about liking wow more than school :)

Its time for me to add my pebble of experience on this mountain of comments...it was ofc '07 i was in college with not a care in the world...thats the 1st good life ingredient if you want to truly enjoy an MMO. Fully immersed in the game and having recently passed though ''THE PORTAL'' it was my 2nd area if i remember correctly i ventured with my ret pala in zangarmarsh...mesmerising is the word..i loved it there is something both alluring and alien in this area like you go in some kind of trance you dont wanna end loved the quests, artstyle, ambience and the diversity of its different areas up until their very end. A word for the gamers of today ppl want to relive WOW as we did bk then the answer is You can't...WE can't...you might get as many re-releases of Classic or TBC or even wrath you want BUT you forget smth... back then THIS is ALL we knew no pandaria no cataclysm no shadowlands NO NOTHING and THAT is what maked this game special the ''evolutionary simplicity'' or synchronycity that both the game and our lives had back then.. You can't go back you can only appreciate and be thankful for the awesomeness you were allowed to live and experience.
