My grandma was a rescuer for women out of DV situations, and her advice is: NEVER EVER CONFRONT. Always just leave. Wait until they go to work, or the gym, etc. And just leave. DON'T take your phone with you. Go to a STRANGER for help, not to someone the abuser knows.

All of this is sooo important!! Strangers really do help so much! I just left a DV situation in February after planning it for almost two months. One night in December of last year he hurt my son for one of the last times & I knew it was then or never. Having to hide & do everything at work (looking for places to live, saving & hiding money, switching banks, passwords, my kids' emergency contacts, etc) I felt like I was living a double life or something 😵💫 the amount of control and manipulation he put me through in that 12 year relationship was wild, I never realized I was in that kind of relationship until it was my life. And never in my life did I think I would be in a relationship like that but it happens so fast and you're already sucked in by the time you know what happened! My kids & I are thriving & so so happy now 🥰 since we left I've had constant blessings come into my life 🤞🤍

Bless you and yours too, love. I’m so relieved you survived and DV needs to be discussed way more. My heart breaks for those who couldn’t escape. May Lisa and the others who suffered from the hands of someone they trusted and love be at peace. It is so unfair and I think it’s helpful that we listen to these horrific but true stories. Listening carefully to these cases can potentially save your life. it helps us recognize dangerous behavior from your SO. Love to you ❤ and to anyone else reading this - know that I love you too and would help in any way possible if you feel like you’re in danger.

Abusive relationships are so complex mentally. There is gaslighting due to the abusers insecurities, being in control, isolation, and a huge factor is fear and making sure the self worth is destroyed. NEVER confront if planning on leaving. Slowly more small and unnoticeable items out. and then when the abuser is gone for a long period hustle and move quickly in the hours you have. If they cant move everything, make sure you take the things that have sentimental value and necessities. The rest can be replaced. This is so tragic.
@justdej Жыл бұрын
I listened to the full audio of their conversation. As someone who was in a very abusive relationship at an even younger age than her, I can say that conversation put my stomach in knots because I remember that feeling. She was panicking at the thought of him spending time with other people after all she had given up, all of the rules, all of the things she said "ok" to even when she didn't really agree. She made him the most important thing in her life and felt threatened by the thought of not being as valuable to him. She grew dependent on him because he made it that way by isolating her. She already had a poor self image (i.e. the eating disorder). Many different forms of insecurities boil down to one thing: CONTROL. She probably didn't feel she had control over herself and allowed him to do it because our minds seek out ways to "fix" what we perceive as problems by any means necessary. Kind of like a bear caught in a trap will bite its own limb off to fix the problem of being stuck only to then bleed out after gaining freedom.
@ZaraV Жыл бұрын
Wow everything you said makes so so much sense! So true 🙏
@sandcrushlove Жыл бұрын
This really resonated with me having been in a very similar relationship myself... Being very dependent on a person... Changing every thing I did to suit him, so as not to upset him. And then eventually he would do the things he told me not to do. I didn't think it was fair. The control and the double standards of our relationship was ridiculous. It made me feel sick to my stomach and I'm ashamed how jealous or insecure I would feel as I felt like I had no right to feel those things.

I think that an important takeaway for domestic violence victims is to NOT confront the abuser or even let them know that you're leaving or where you're going. The time right before, during and after leaving is the most dangerous. It may feel like the thing to do to tell them that you're leaving, but it may have deadly consequences.
@NtokozoMajola Жыл бұрын
Such a tragic story. I could feel your pain for Lisa as you told this story. Domestic violence is so insidious and horrific. It's so brave of Lisa's mom to spread the message about its effects after suffering the loss of her daughter.

It's easy to fall into that trap. First you just wanna prove your love, then you do it for your peace. Before you know it your doing everything out of routine. But you never ever stop thinking about your life. I think it's the "questioning" yourself that wears you down. And yes those manipulative people KNOW exactly what they are doing. They were taught it and used it since childhood. It's devastating

My best friend was in an abusive relationship for years. He didn't allow her to speak to me because he knew I could see through him. She was young, smart, beautiful, and gullible, and he was emotionally, financially, and verbally abusive. He'd threaten to hurt her dogs if she tried to leave him, and there were no shelters in her city that allowed dogs. He didn't work so he was never away from their home. Finally when he was away for a couple hours one day she took as much of her stuff as she could manage and two of their three dogs (he had the third with him) and got out. It took so much courage and she felt like she had to do it alone, and I kick myself every day that I wasn't there to help her. Her story has a happy ending, but it could have been easily ended like Lisa's

Thank you for covering this case, Zara! I'm surprised I hadn't heard about it before this video. I wish Lisa had been able to make it out alive that day. The lengths he was willing to go to spy on her to attempt to control her entire life are disturbing & terrifying. I saw another comment say not to confront the person, but to wait until you're alone & just silently make your escape. That is definitely the safest option & likely the most successful as well. We might want to confront someone to let them know we are finally leaving after everything they did & that we will be free from them or, conversely, because they have made us feel like we owe them the "courtesy" or "consideration" of letting them they know we are leaving. I promise that the realization that you made your escape & slipped through their grasp while they weren't home will hit them harder than anything you could say to their face. Nothing you can say will affect them or change their mind anyway. As for owing them the warning of a goodbye? The only thing you owe them is your absence from their life because that is what they have earned.

15:43 the fact that Simon only got “two years of periodical detention” for injuring two officers and biting one of their ears off…🤯🤯🤯🤯 I have no words! I think that if he and his family had acted this way in US, they would’ve faced a much, MUCH more severe punishment. And that’s assuming that they even made it out alive to go through the whole justice system!! This is just crazy to me. I’m just appalled that he got such a light sentence. Oh how horrific and frightening. I have a friend who found herelf quickly immersed in a coersive controlling relationship. The love bombing, gaslighting and isolation all came to light. With many attempts to get her help, and get her to see what was hapoening, she eventually got out safely with assistance from the police courts. It is so hard to explain when others on the outside say "Why don't they just leave?"... it's usually when one tries to leave that the abuser loses it, the loss of control leads to anger. Thank you for sharing the resources on this topic, its terrifyingly too common.

Also it’s a mix of vulnerability, naivety, environment, mental health, and emotional manipulation. If you’re not aware of what true love or never experienced it or never seen it modeled properly you’re very naive to this type of abuse. Throw in mental health issue and/or lack of self esteem/confidence and you may think you deserve this or nothing better. Then there’s narcissistic personalities out there who seek out empaths to take advantage of. The perfect toxic situation is someone who lacks empathy and someone who cares so much about others that they’d sacrifice themselves. This is my version of an answer to the question on why people deal with these type of relationships.. even if they’re unhappy
@desiagriffin9689 Жыл бұрын
The type of people that prey on good people have usually experience their own form of trauma that they’ve chosen not to deal and tap in to the darkest parts of themselves by choosing not to emotionally care about others and instead suck the life out of truly good people to add to their delusions of being better than what they actually are.

Unfortunately I’ve been there, though thankfully not to this extreme. I was lucky enough to have moved away for uni when I finally woke up and realised I had to break up with him. Its been years now and I still feel nauseous hearing stories like this because I understand all too well. I have to leave a note to anyone who may be going through this too: It can get better, and I know its hard but you need to gather all your strength and get out, do it quietly and quickly because unfortunately in cases of domestic abuse the most dangerous time is when you decide to leave. There’s help out there, if not your family and friends, believe me theres an organisation, a church, even strangers who are willing to help. It’ll be scary, but it’ll be worth it. You’ll get your life and your self back and you’ll be so glad you did ❤

I want all girls/women in this situation to KNOW that when you are being controlled by someone you have to get extremely paranoid. You can not TELL them you are leaving. I think the desire to do this stems from an inner desire we have for people to want us, to apologize for their actions and to change. BUT someone who is controlling you will ONLY do that to get you to stay because you are nothing but an object to them like a microwave or expensive sofa. If you are leaving you can’t incite them in anyway at all. If anything lie through your teeth to keep alive. And then get as far away from them as possible. These beasts are barely human and will end your life so please don’t confront them. Just leave.

Her poor mom I know what that monster did must have killed her and then this monster is as still trying to control her even after he murdered her . I bet he captured the entire murder with the other cameras so that’s why he had his brother removed them before the police got to search .

I’m not sure that “interfering” is the he best advice. I feel like not only will that endanger the victim but it will also put that person in danger as they “interfere”. It will create chaos, it will further isolate the victim as they will likely make sure that person doesn’t try that again (as it will have an impact on their life after the person has left), they will be forced to further isolate from that person and probably any last lingering people in their life. No one can leave DV until they themselves are ready! And in saying that, that is when the victim is most likely to be killed! So this situation is not nearly as black and white as outsiders want to think it is. You can’t just go and save them. You can’t just interfere. You can’t just ask the right questions (because whose monitoring those conversations)??? This story broke my heart. She was ready. She was trying. She made the effort to leave that pos! She did everything right. Bless her heart, she knew that day would end in only one of two ways and she probably knew/felt (based on the call she made to her mom) which way it was headed! She tried her best ❤

Agreed he tool control to a techno level literally utilitising surveillance on her24/7 so any interference would have triggered his rage.Dont tell plan and leave but obviously not all women are lucky enough to have viable safe options to leave toits femicide not all men abuse but it is certainly a frightening statistics 1 or 2 a week .

Women need to nip it at the start. When he made a scene at the job it should have been over. Sometimes women have such low self esteem or are afraid to be alone that they put up with it. Please love yourself more than loving someone else

20:03 Omg that makes so much sense now!😮 I was with my husband for a total of 17 years and in the beginning of our relationship he would do these exact things ur talking about OMG! 😳 I'm speechless 😶 So I now know what his motive was for making me late to work or when he would start an argument right before I had to leave for work just so that I wouldn't want to even leave the house!😢 We've been separated from each other for six years now and this really brought up some deeply disturbing theories I had but I couldn't put my finger on it but now I know exactly what he was up to! 😂

It breaks my heart when strong women fall into these kinds of relationships. I was in one for only two months but he was always so pissed at me because I wouldn't fold to make him happy. It only lasted two months because I refused to let a man dimish my worth and I wish so badly for all ladies to have this mindset. No man is worth losing who you are, I know it can be hard but your life is far more important than his ego. There are so many other people in the world that love you more and someone who will treat you better and be happy to do so.

Domestic violence survivor - it's fear. Shame. Powerlessness. Believe me, I'm still asking my self the same question - how did all happened? In my case, he broke my character completely. I became victim in most vulnerable time of my life. Everything was "perfect" until I haven't move in to his. Saw him choking my dog, and I couldn't do a thing. I just froze. He was able to kill his own pet snakes.... So what he could do to me if I'd try to leave? Or fight back? But there is another side of domestic violence too. Witnesses. I'm sure my neighbours heard my screams when I've been choked and beaten up. They saw me with bruises, no questions asked. Domestic violence it's a complex issue, I'd rather say.

Don't they think it's weird that there were cameras everywhere except the balcony? I absolutely believe he was angry enough to throw her over! Rage + adrenaline can make you do super human stuff.

I did find out later that he told his brother to remove the hard drive from the ceiling and I wouldn't put it past him to remove any other spyware and pinhole cameras from other locations. I bet he just forgot about the one near the door as the murder took place inside the home 🤷🏻♀️

@@ZaraV I bet you're right. I noticed that edit about his brother right after i commented. His brother should be investigated as well. I guess it'd be difficult to prove he deleted anything if they can't find the hard drive.

I think we might stay in a terrible relationship because it is out on us that we are failures if we can’t make it work.

Didn't a witness say that he saw Simon throw what the man thought was a garbage bag or something. So there was a witness that Simon did throw Lisa off the balcony. And the kind of "love" Simon had for Lisa was not love at all. It is evil. And he should never ever get out of prison. Twenty six years is not enough for this disgusting unhuman being. Rest in Peace Lisa. I really wish you had come back to Canada at least until the thing found someone else.
