We can all talk about Barry, Payton, Dickerson, Brown, & OJ but Emmit Smith did what he did in the NFL. One thing that we real football fans should know is that not anybody could have accomplished what Emmit Smith accomplished in Dallas. He had his set of special gifts and intangibles that made him the all time leading rusher. Period! Just because he had a great O Line and a great team doesn’t mean any running back could accomplish his same statistics! I’m a lifelong Dallas Cowboys fan and I’m not saying that Emmit was the flashiest RB but pound for pound, in the clutch, I got my money on #22!

What I am saying is that he had great vision, balance, durability, and intelligence and that made him one of the best of all time. As an Eagles fan, this definitely changed my view of Emmitt. He's talented for sure, but I admire that work ethic and determination to be great. And he wasn't cocky about it at all. He wrote his goals, and he kept it private. I also admired that he named everyone that got him to where he is during his retirement speech. What a legend. And it's absolutely crazy how durable he was. To take a pounding like that for 15 seasons is insane. For reference, there have been many great RBs, but only 31 have rushed for 10,000+ yards, and Emmitt nearly doubled that.
@MrHabart7 ай бұрын
Average length of a NFL career is 3.3 years - For Running backs the average is 2.6 years (Lowest of all positions) - In his 13 seasons with the Dallas Cowboys, Emmit Smith only missed 5 games - 201 out of a possible 206 which should have been 203 out of 208 because Jerry Jones dragged his feet signing Smith to a new contact after his Rookie contract had expired after winning the Super Bowl the previous year. Remarkable consistency and focus throughout his entire 15 year career.

I remember watching Emmitt Smith at the Univ of Florida. Every time Emmitt scored a touchdown he would toss the football to the official. I never saw him celebrate with some gangster pose or a goofy dance. Like many of the greats, he had class. Critics would say he was too slow. How many defenders wearing pads could run him down? The guy was a genius seeing angles and setting up blocks. He had great vision on the field. That vision carried over off the field and after football. Thank YOU Emmitt for all the great years of football and for being a role model to everyone.

He might not have celebrated after a TD in college, but he sure did as a Cowboy. The NFL put a rule in specifically for Smith because he couldn't keep his helmet on after a TD. He also would never give the football back to an official in the NFL after scoring a TD.

The incredible thing about Emmitt Smith is that he was even better than all of the credit is given to him because there are things he did great that flew under the radar from his power running skills. His nose for the first down marker kept drive after drive after drive alive, which culminated in points and wins. His blocking was superb, and was the biggest weapon Dallas had when they beat Buffalo in that first Super Bowl, as he continual picked up those great blitzing linebackers of Buffalo, which gave Aikman that added extra time to hit Novacek with short passes to keep drives alive. The Cowboys won because of Emmitt. Without him the team’s offense was non existent.

Thanks Emmitt. You did an awesome job and in return we got to see some of the best football. Every time they said, It's a hand off to Emmitt every body slid up in there seats.

My number one running back of all times was Emmitt Smith and then Water Patton, Jim Brown, Gail Sears, and Tony Dorsett.

I was hoping to see Emmitt's perspective on the Emmitt vs Barry games. I didn't like Emmitt simply because he played for the Cowboys. Now looking back, I respect him as a person and athlete. I liked his comments on Barry Sanders which shows to me that he is a humble guy.

I went to a Monday Night Football game in Dallas. Emmitt had over 180 plus yards and Barry had 200 plus. It was a great game... unfortunately the Lions won in overtime... :( It was still fun to watch though.

The things I loved seeing when watching Emmitt Smith run the ball was his Toughness, Patience, Vision, Balance, & he was also Versatile. That's what I think of when you mention Emmitt Smith, cause he wasn't the fastest or strongest or the most elusive RB, he was just a natural pure RB that was good at what he did, but Emmitt Smith just can't take all that credit & glory alone, cause he did run behind the best OL in the NFL, plus Big Moose, the full back, clearing Smith out many paths too!

I respect what you did for the game of football and the NFL! I will miss your work ethic, but not beating my Bills. I am still a Bills fan even after all the heartache I have endured. I am still a believer that they will win one one day! I wish you the best in your professional life and with your family! Nuture your family and do not forget this. Peace!

Emmitt checks all the boxes: all-time rushing leader, all-time rushing TD leader, MVP, SB MVP, 6x AP, 8x PB, 3 SB Rings. A great leader and a great winner.

Emmitt was high school player of year in the state of Florida. Over 8,800 yards in high school. At Florida Gators broke all college records as a running back in three years. Really?
@robertbishop53572 жыл бұрын
For me I say it's Jim Brown because he ran for I think 12+thousand yards in seasons with only 12-14 games and I believe he only played 8 years. Yes, that's correct I said it. Still no one can take away what emmitt accomplished. He's definitely in my top 3.
@bigred9991 Жыл бұрын
Jim Brown also played with 8 different Hall of Fame lineman throughout his career. Emmitt had 1. Larry Allen.

I got to see Emmitt play in the 91-92 season at the LA Coliseum against the Raiders. It was Todd Marinovich against Troy Aikman. Emmitt scored three touchdowns and ran all over the Raiders.
