A few months ago I discovered 6/7 of these. Nobody remembers planting them. They never even knew they were there. Now, about 5 months later, there's 14. Nobody did anything to them, not even watering. I am in South Africa,Cape Town. Almost every single house here has aloe of some sort. A few years ago CT experienced a drought, so people adapted their gardens. They grow so fast, almost as fast as the weeds. I found some growing wild down the road on the sidewalk too. I use the gel as a facial cleanser and as a shampoo. I use about half a leaf for my shorts hair, twice /week. No need for conditioner imo. And if I feel the need for conditions I use aloe Vera gel mixed with honey. Or aloe Vera with coconut oil before washing. I use normal shampoo about 2/month. The soap aloe gel can very successfully be frozen. I usually keep enough for about 5 days at room temperature and it hasn't spoiled but that might change now that spring is here. I have also dried a few leaves and blended to a powder. I will steep in water like a tea, maybe add Hibiscus powder, and use as a cleansing water for my face. Or even just a hair rinse on days that I don't wash my hair and my hair just needs a freshen up. I am a naturally curly haired lady.

Why do they keep changing the names on Florida plant data base has it's in the lily family. I think this is what I have in my back yard gives off these beautiful pale coral color flowers....Hard to know if it is since I've been trying to identify it forever but that's the closest I've seen to mine as far as pics go They seem to get darker in the shade and get the red in them IN the full sun they usually stay mostly green at least mine do unless I haven't watered them in a long time and then they will get a deep red purple color and yep we have clay here too! I'm zone 8!
