Now that I've beaten Skyward Sword again I can truly appreciate this. Honestly this was a great game. And I love little details in it that make me think of the bigger picture. Demise's lingering consciousness is literally sealed in the Master Sword. Maybe it has faded away. But what if the whole Master Sword getting attacked by malice thing in the trailers is pointing towards Demise's consciousness actually being released? Then Skyward Sword HD coming out makes a lot of sense. Of course Ganondorf is clearly there so maybe they wouldn't bring back Demise. But who knows. I love the Link and Zelda relationship here. It even trumps the one in Breath of the Wild which I also enjoyed through the memories (though I also like Mipha which makes it complicated). They grew up together, clearly were always interested in each other, and that bond only grew during this adventure. Even if Zelda felt guilty for what she (Hylia) put Link through, it was still making for a great journey. Link himself in this game is just great. He's got the goofy side through the light stuff and really is expressive in a good way. But when he's pissed off...you can see it. Later parts where Ghirahim was harming Zelda with that ritual or Demise was sending her flying, he was ready to rip those guys apart. And he honestly did. Even if the character is silent, you can use the graphics we get in the 3D Zelda's to give Link personality. And we saw it here. He's a hero and a great guy. But he's human. Same with Zelda sealing herself away. When he's sad and upset you can feel it. Obviously not the only Zelda game doing that, but it still did it well. Zelda herself was great. She made use of the screentime she had early on to establish her personality. She did cause Link a few problems while also helping him out too. She had to do so much in the brief moments after that point where she'd appear and then be out of reach again. No question what a sweet and good person she is either during the parts where she reveals the truth to Link. A great and sweet character. Groose...I honestly forgot how terrible he was to start. Because I just remembered how good he got later. He kidnaps Link's bird and could have gotten him killed. But once he lands on the ground himself he starts to get better. To the point where he's truly a huge force in the story and helps out in so many ways. May not be the hero with a sword, but he's got heroic qualities. At least he did change in a good way. Playing through this again just reminds me how good it is. Skyward Sword had flaws. But story wasn't one of them.

Honestly the only thing I didn't like about SS was having to recalibrate my Wii remote after using the beetle. I didn't have to every time I used the bow, but the beetle would always uncenter my controls. I guess I didn't like the artificial difficulty of having to attack enemies from a specific direction or else they would block, and by the time I attacked them the right way they had switched and would block me. It made some fights longer and possibly more difficult than they should have been. Ghirim(I'm not going to try and spell it) was almost always a tough fight for me. Even with a more "linear" storyline I think the game was great. I would have been fine without a stamina bar, if they included a sprint then I didn't want to walk because it's slower, but then I run out of stamina. 8.5/10 IMO

I played this game for the first time with the HD remaster and absolutely loved it. The story is so moving and incredibly detailed and I love how it is the origin of the entire series. Link is also so expressive in the game which I loved! He's always cute but he's especially adorable in SS!
@geoffreygoncalves9313 жыл бұрын
Agreed ! Even with the excuse of the burden of the Hero, Link's lack of expression during the cutscenes in Botw was really ackward to say the least. Even more so in the present time where I think he should had some sort of reaction to the events. Even if he is not the most dashing looking, SS Link will always be my favorite because it shows that even if he is the avatar of the player, he is still his own character in the story of this universe.
@maralragchaasuren68522 жыл бұрын
@@geoffreygoncalves931 You summarized my feelings exactly! I definitely agree that BOTW Link felt pretty secondary, especially during his OWN memories. And you’d think that he’d at least react with a nod when someone asks something of him, rather than just stand silently, making the entire exchange pretty awkward 😂 And yes, purely because he feel like an actual character interacting with the world and happenings around him, (and is really sweet when it comes to those he loves) SS Link will always be my favorite.

Truly amazing, you really captured the feeling this game gives you on a first playthrough. Sure it's rough around the edges, but it is still a great game with how much it delves into character development and emotional connections. It drives home the bond between Link and Zelda in later games, that even if they're not 'together' for most of the adventure, they still act like they're old friends in the interactions they do have. (Though Twilight Princess' Zelda relationship with Link was far more formal and pretty non-existent). Though I must say, you don't *have* to use a shield for any of the fights in Skyward Sword. Shieldless Hero Mode is a great challenge, and it really ups the stakes on Link's swordsmanship. I recommend giving it a try.

It's a shining example of showing there's no replacement for engaging story telling. Don't get me wrong I love BOTW, but for all the hype and anticipation people had for it and AOC's first time integration of voice acting neither one of them holds a candle in the story telling department to some past Zelda titles especially Skyward Sword IMHO. Though I will give points to BOTW for the best use of environmental story telling in the series, which makes for good lore and theory crafting.

Amazing video, Skyward Sword will always be one of my all-time favourites and you have done a great job at telling its story. Since Link between worlds (LBW), I've had a theory that Demise was the original hero of Lorule and came to Hyrule to conqueror it. This would explain why Demise has a mirrored version of the Master Sword. Demise is meant to be the opposite of SS link, while Link is willing to use his power to defend his home, Demise wanted to use his power to meet his own ends. I thought this would also explain Ravio's cowardness in LBW, he was afraid of becoming the monster that was his predecesor.

@Flaris3 жыл бұрын
Kind of makes sense. Obviously the visual side is there. But also in terms of symbols. Groose is also a human that stood against Demise even if he couldn't fight him directly. If the curse followed Link and Zelda, one could say that using the descendants of Groose to do it just reflects Demise's twisted nature. Making sure that the descendants of all three would in some way be continually wrapped up in that curse.

Another turning of the wheel.... Personally, I rather like the idea...with some slight modifications. We need a redemption for Gannon's family lineage. A true resurrection of Hylia wouldn't be remiss as well. Maybe a game where we just see what these characters might look without Demise being under the hood for all the conflict. Then... his resurrection, and subsequent redo of everything starting with some twist on Skyward Sword. Infinite possible spots to put the time loop as opposed JUST the game content. 😁

It cant though, cause in Skyward Sword, Hyrule has not been founded yet. And with the addition of the Zonai people, we know there was a time before Hyrule and even Skyloft. My bet is that the people that faught with Hylia in ancient times were the human tribe of Zonai.

Simulation sickness?
@MissingRaptor Жыл бұрын
@@brian8507 it's similar to car sickness but it happens when you are playing certain video games or watching certain movies. It's a disconnect between what your eyes are seeing and what your body is experiencing that leaves you feeling dizzy and nauseated. It's most prevalent when playing 3D immersive games like first person perspective games (such as minecraft) or 3D 3rd person games like skyward sword. The game design can really help to decrease the triggering of the simulation sickness by tweaking various elements (like camera movement and how close the camera is to the character) which can be super helpful. Breath of the Wild is an excellent example of a game that has taken these design elements into account and provided a much better playing experience. If you want more information, I suggest looking up the video on simulation sickness from the channel Extra History. It talks about this problem in better detail and how game developers can mitigate it in their game design.

On the one hand Goddes Hylia, bringer of life and protection, accompanied by the peaceful peoples of the earth and equipped with a sword, personified in Fi, an ethereal creature with the aim of helping the sword-bearer on his journey.
