In Taigen Dan Leightons book 'Just this is it' he basically says that suchness is the subjective experience of emptiness. Do you think this relates to your understanding aswell, i.e. that Weixin goes from no understanding to conceptual understanding to direct experience, i.e. suchness (mountains are just mountains)?

Sadly, I can't say I'm too familiar with Leighton and I haven't read 'Just This Is It' so I couldn't say anything definitively. But, if I can venture a guess, then I would say yes. I just had a look and Abe wrote a short piece titled "Emptiness is Suchness" (1978) wherein he inspected the human condition as brought on by self-consciousness and he states, "the realization of suchness is the positive aspect of the realization of emptiness" (p.135). All things are just as they are, "willows are green, flowers are red." And with the realization of emptiness (through the death of the ego) humans can realize such suchness as well. So, as far as I can tell, the two accounts definitely have, at the least, substantial overlap. Thanks for bringing this up and leading me to find the piece!

@@MaieuticsYT Yes I read that essay too, It's very on point I think :) If you have/find any more books, essays or poems on the topic, I'd appreciate it if you could share them. It's one of my favourite topics in chan/zen-buddhism. Thank you very much! Btw have you read Dogen? He also writes a great deal about suchness.

@@thatdude_93 I haven't yet read Dogen. But I do intend to study some Japanese and Japanese philosophy in the future so hopefully I'll have the opportunity to! Maybe I'll even make a video on suchness, but, until then, I can let you know if I find any more!

I cannot disagree with any of the viewpoints given, for they have nothing to do with me.
