MZTV 1550: The Third Heaven is a Paradise

Paul states in 2 Corinthians 12:2 that he was snatched away to the third heaven. But did he also visit the third earth? We may ask this question because of Paul’s statement in the same context that he was snatched into paradise (2 Corinthians 12:4). Isn’t the new earth called paradise? So what is a celestial man doing visiting the new earth? Is this a confusion of the two gospels?
Put all confusion to rest. Today’s show is a wonderful revelation (that is, it’s full of wonder) that the paradise of God need not be limited or assigned to only one location.
So let’s head up to the third heaven with Paul and see what we find.

It is easy to see how a person could mistake what Paul is saying in 2Co.12. If you just read what he says, it could be taken that there were 2 snatchings. As is typical with Paul, you must read carefully. What a difference distinguishing between "to" and "into" makes. Good catch Mr. Z.

Hi Martin, while you are correct that the Millennium is the primary focus in the OT, the New Earth is actually prophesied in some detail in Isaiah 65 (which John was most likely referencing). Isaiah 65:20 also confirms the idea that there will still be mortality on the New Earth

Christ gives up the Kingdom to God, but the Kingdom doesn't end, pretty simple to my mind. And why does Eon 5 have to "end" at the consummation? I love that description, "a place of perfect pleasure." But Adam and Eve could not have really appreciated it in Eden, because before they sinned, they never knew pain or evil. Not so for us.

But when i tell this to some concordant brothers they Come with rev.21:1 and i saw a new heaven and a new eath, for the FIRST heaven and the FIRST earth had passes away Their argument is the number " first" , and they say : this refers to the heaven of heavens, the highest heaven ( not seen in time but seen in a vertical line). Upwards....

That's the problem with languages, first can mean a position in space or a position in time. You can't assume either without some context. The argument they make is based on (incorrect) assumptions.

Thanks for making us think Martin It occurred to me while listening that The Consumation is simply all humanity and every other creature are finally made immortal and The New Earth remains but but people that were mortal are no longer bound to it Of course the ones in the second death miss out on the fun food and fellowship of the untold centuries of the 5th eon but of course theyll not be aware of all that passage of time being in the death state

Martin, thanks for meat to chew on. It wouldn't surprise me to learn that Paul was bodily snatched away to the third heaven. For a far lesser reason than Paul's experience, Philip was snatched away by the spirit of the Lord to be relocated at Azotus (Acts 8:38-40). As someone who was apostle to the nations (Rom 11:13), and as one who was "a pattern of those who are about to be believing on Him for life eonian" (1 Tim 1:16, CLNT), perhaps Paul was bodily snatched away. Admittedly, Paul says that he did not know whether he was in the body or not (2 Cor 12:3). However, I suspect that he was snatched away bodily as a forerunner, a guarantee of what he would later teach concerning the body of Christ (1 Thess 4:13-17; 1 Cor 15:49-52).

I'm pretty sure in my own mind that the "third" heaven has nothing to do with time. It is a reference to the heaven above the atmosphere of earth (first) and the stellar heaven of space (second). It is the current location of the throne of God which is Paradise in the sense that Paradise is anywhere God dwells in unbroken fellowship with His created beings (like in the original paradise of this present earth, and the future paradise of the New Earth). And I am pretty sure that there are only two earths spoken of in Scripture, not three. The first earth was the original, became a vacant chaos, and then remade where mortal humanity plays out its failed attempt at dominion. It will be destroyed by fire at the end of the 1,000 year reign of Christ on earth as the final judgment of that failure. The second earth is the New Earth. And, in my view, the New Heaven is actually NEW (there is no longer the three levels) So, the New Earth is the home base (paradise) of the Kingdom of God and the New Heaven will be a new playground for the Body of Christ, the likes of which "eye hath not seen". Just how I harmonize all Scripture and I could be wrong - but I doubt it. LOL

This is also how I've always interpreted the "third heaven" and the "first earth". But I perceive the "new heaven" of Revelation as referring to the atmosphere, the stellar heavens and the known physical universe (first and second heavens). I don't think God will need a new "third heaven." I'll have to say, to me Peter's comments about the "ancient world" and "then world" in 2 Peter can be confusing. Either he is repeating himself, because he mentions it twice in two different chapters (deluged by water), or the Earth ("world) was deluged by water on two different occasions. If the earth was actually "destroyed" the first time (Genesis 1:1-2), that would put us on the second Earth now. Some interpret the mention in 2 Peter Chapter 3 as proof of the "gap theory" (which I believe is plausible based on the Scriptures and the reality of the fossil record). Peter uses very similar language in Chapter 2 and Chapter 3 when describing the water deluge, but in Chapter 2 when describing Noah's flood, he says only the world was "deluged." In Chapter 3, he says it was deluged and "the world perished." When he says perished, is he referring to the people or the earth itself? So I'm not sure Scripture is clear on how the Earth was destroyed and "remade" as you say between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2. If it WAS completely destroyed, then we are on the 2nd Earth. And there is a symmetry here, since the Scriptures are deliberately vague about the details of this, and also about the end of this Earth and the ushering in of the New Earth.

@@tonyladokguy8985 Good observations. I have always distinguished between "earth" and "world". The earth to me is the planet we reside on. The "world" is the system operating during each eon, and the systems operate differently in each eon . The "worlds" and the "eon" synchronize as the CV concordance puts it. However. the planet earth has remained the same since the original creation, and will cease to exist when the new earth is created at the close of Great White Throne judgment. Just how I see things.

@@Clark-RL thanks for your information. I think we can agree that we're on the first earth, and that it was disrupted between Genesis 1:1 and 1:2, and re-created. My understanding of the "Gap Theory" is that it pretty much agrees with this assessment. I was just observing that if the earth was completely "destroyed" at that time (which it wasn't according to the Scriptures) then we would be on a second earth, which we are not. You helped clarify some of my uncertainty about the logistics of the disruption, thanks.

Can someone re-explain the eons to me, what I thought was this- - this eon ends with the Dais of Christ (first judgement/lake of fire) earth destroyed by earthquake. - 1000 year Kingdom takes place, ends with Great White throne judgement, heaven and earth flee/death abolished - Eon five begins, God is all in all/happily ever after. Martin, like you, I also noticed the difference between the “to” (more precisely “up to”) in verse 2 and the “into” in verse 4. But apparently you did no read my second reply to you from yesterday: “Well, Martin, I am correct… unless someone wants to argue that Paul was taken into paradise, which is the New Jerusalem, and shown that place while it was in heaven, that is, BEFORE it came down to earth (Unveiling 21:2)” In view of your reply today, I will agree with you that Paul was “IN” the third heaven when he was taken “INTO” (def: to the inside of) the New Jerusalem, where he undoubtedly saw “the log of life which is in the center of THE PARADISE of God” (emphasis added). So this is where I respectfully disagree with you… Paul did not use the term “paradise” as a generic for the third heaven, as you claim, but he was speaking about a SPECIFIC PLACE IN THE THIRD HEAVEN, INTO which he was taken. That place has an EARTHLY DESTINATION and it was in THAT place that he heard the “ineffable declarations, which it is not allowed a man to speak.” So, we can logically conclude that he WAS ON A PART OF the third earth (the New Jerusalem), but at the time PRIOR to its descent from HEAVEN. You must also have missed my third reply to you from yesterday: “I am quoting A.E. Knoch’s ‘Concordant Commentary on the New Testament,’ II Corinthians 12:1-21: ‘Paul entered the third heaven and there saw (what he afterward revealed in his Perfection Epistles) the universal supremacy of Christ and the supernal dignity and bliss conferred on the ecclesia which is Christ's body. HE ALSO ENTERS THE NEW EARTH AND ITS PARK, WHICH JOHN DESCRIBES (Un.22:2). (Emphasis added)’ I am truly on tenterhooks to know what you found that is different and cannot wait until tomorrow morning. I have a lot of respect for people who take on A.E. Knoch and prove him wrong…” Unfortunately, you have NOT proven A.E. Knoch wrong… but I still have IMMENSE respect for you and your work. At the end of the millennium fire comes down from heaven and devours those who are outside the city. So I suppose this means those who are inside the city are still there and come out afterwards? Are they coming out onto a new earth that has been cleansed with fire? Could that be what it means?
