I was definitely already interested in the Anowon deck but this helps cement it even more. That said, since Anowon is more aggro, it makes sense that he'd win in a 1v1 whereas in a game with 4 players, the Landfall deck likely wouldn't be a big threat early game and therefore wouldn't draw too much attention to itself.
@madscientist26214 жыл бұрын
When I looked at the deck list, I looked at Anowon as a mill strategy and dismissed it not thinking about the shenanigans that you can do with rogues. Plus there is card draw too which is nice. I have to agree tho that Anowon is favored in 1v1 but would have less bite in a 4 way game.

Obuun really needs a Terra Eternal, then you he can go nuts, without fear of losing so many resources to spot removal. Another thing to keep in mind, is that Anowon encourages you to swing at more than one player, to mill more creatures and draw more cards! ... Unless I read the card wrong, meaning Anowon encourages you spread your damage instead of focusing on a single player, to restock your hand in case of Board Wipes.

My Sneak Attack arrived last night and I got right to building Anowon. I'm super stoked for rogues, especially since we'll probably be seeing more in coming sets, especially in the D&D crossover set. I tried unsuccessfully to make UG Sygg work for a long time. I don't think rogues are going to be T1 any time soon, but I love that they have such a . . .rogue strategy. About Cloak and Dagger: this is a great example of a card that you run to stay on-theme, even if it isn't "optimal." Are Greaves/Boots just better than this most of the time? Yeah, probably, but being able to shroud up Anowon isn't the worst thing. These were fun and informative, Muddstah. Thanks!

That new man land from zendikar puts counters on itself and felidar retreat puts counters on all your creatures. One of the reasons why I am not as stoked about the landfall deck is that there are a ton of new landfall cards from zendikar that are not included in this precon that seem like auto includes. For the rogue deck I already had a lot of the older rogues and there are only a couple of new ones that make the cut.

The ramp stuff helps much as well to get it huge quick. You can win against the sneak attack rogues with the big trample lands indeed 😉 Anyway, both decks are fun to play out of the box and for the low price I can recommend them for having some fun. The fact that obuun doesnt untap the land he animates means, if you want to attack with it, youre constantly down a land each turn. Its pretty much a dead ability, meaning this commander reads: landfall, put a +1/+1 counter on target creature, and as far as +1/+1 counter decks go, this one falls way short.

I think the 2 commanders are actually pretty fair when it comes to 1v1. I'm sure they took 1v1 gameplay into account between the two decks. Unfortunately, they're unwilling to make a good 3 color manabase besides a 1-2 sultai decks. It'll probably drain too much of the total price value allocated. The 3 color deck would probably be better than the dimir one if both were brought to a 1v1 casual competitive level (no thassa oracle).

We never saw how well Anowon would weather a board-wipe. That's a biggy in multiplayer. Also, the 'go wide' aggro strategy in multiplayer is difficult since it falsely makes you look like the 'threat' early on. IMO, the best hing about Anowon in the draw; but one wipe and it's a different story, I could really see it running out of steam; I hope it has Negate...the landfall deck suffered severely from lack of interaction, period.

What I don't like about the Anowon deck is that it seems to have a severe weakness to board wipes... the fact that you played it 1v1 may have made it look more powerful than it actually was: in a four-player table, even though you may draw up to three cards from Anowon's trigger every turn, you're also dealing with three 40 life totals instead of one... those rogues are not big enough when you spread them around all three opponents. There's also the risk of accidentally helping the opponent with the mill.
@sloanmurray67994 жыл бұрын
Yeah I mean don't get me wrong, I definitely want to give Anowon a go, but I think that whenever you put both of these decks into a 4-player table, their impressiveness will flip - I think Obuun will do well in 4 player simply by virtue of not being targeted the whole game, whereas Anowon might struggle some. Anowon is essentially dimir aggro, which is fun and all, but aggro tends to suffer the more opponents you have. Obviously you can play into the mill theme and play some nice reanimator effects, but those are inconsistent since they'll depend on what your opponent is playing.

Actually, to be fair in my critique, let me check the dictionary for common pronunciations (I'm a descriptivist, Jim, not a prescriptivist) . . . Yuck* god forbid they include easily accessible reprints to the talismans and signets in these when they can instead throw in the garbage lockets and keyrunes nobody wants. And of course more unwanted gate reprints that they could have easily replaced with temples at this point which still aren’t the best, but a good deal better than the gates which are the bottom of the barrel.
@jakeapplegate66424 жыл бұрын
pntbller14 honestly it’s hard to complain when they are half the price of the usual precons and have about the same value of cards overall. I agree though. It doesn’t hurt them any to put better land in the deck than guild gates. Especially disappointed in the lands in the 3 color lands matter deck.
@tendererlemon2934 жыл бұрын
Like Jake mentioned , I'd normally be more critical of the reprints as well, but for about half the price and technically the same value of reprints (about 90$) as the other precons that where 40$ out of the box, I couldn't really complain what i got.
@pntbller144 жыл бұрын
@@tendererlemon293 well I’m not saying stuff like mana crypt and grim monolith. For the most part the signets and talismans are fairly inexpensive (save a few color combos which are ridiculously overpriced) the temples are all DIRT cheap and could easily have gone in place of the gates. It’s all just simple tweaks that don’t really drive up the overall value by a ton but would do a LOT to help the consistency and playability of these decks out of the box, and I feel like that should be a priority when creating these things. It’s frustrating to see gates in place of temples and keyrunes and cluestones in place of talismans and signets when there isn’t a massive price gap between them
