Zendikar Rising Lore Episode 1: Into The Heart Of The Skyclave
Zendikar Rising lore has officially begun with our first chapter in our return to this war torn plane. Nahiri, the ancient protector of Zendikar, has returned to her home looking to restore its former glory. The elemental forces, known as the Roils, are mercilessly attacking Zendikar's denizens. She partners with Nissa Revane to uncover lost Kor text and an artifact with the power to quell the elements. Nissa wants to help heal Zendikar, but has no idea what she has signed up for! With an ancient power teased, Nissa finds that while her goal is similar to Nahiri's... their methods could not be more different.

Ironically, had Nahiri not summoned Emma to Innistrad, the Gatewatch would have been crushed by the combined effort of the 3 Eldrazi titans, especially Emrakul, with whom they stood no chance. So had Nahiri not acted, Zendikar and the Gatewatch would have arguably been dead.

@@lenore7777 Technically Emrakul was going to condemn an entire people to their horrible deaths anyway or stay on Zendikar and make it worse for the Zendikari. All Nahiri did was choose the plane rather than let Emrakul choose.
@bastermaboy
@bastermaboy 4 жыл бұрын
@@lenore7777 My point is that, if you think about it logically, even if Nahiri didn't do anything, Emrakul was going to swallow up some other plane. And then some other plane after that. Etc. etc. At the very least Nahiri got Emrakul away from Zendikar and saved her home from Emrakulization in the process. It's almost like a nuclear missile gets launched and there is nothing you can do to stop it, but you can punch in the coordinates of where the nuke will land rather than let the nuke hit some country randomly. All Nahiri did was punch in the coordinates- it was Nissa, technically, who launched the nuke in the first place when she released the Eldrazi Nahiri sealed. And Emrakul destroying some other random plane is no worse than that of destroying Innistrad. In fact, given Innistrad's very small population, one may even be inclined to send emrakul to innistrad anyway to spare some more populated plane from total destruction. Nahiri chose Sorin's plane, however, because Sorin promised to protect her plane of Zendikar but didn't, instead ignoring Nahiri and trapping her on the cursed plane of Innistrad where she experienced hundreds of years of hellish torment and went mad as a result. Nahiri punched in the code. Sure, you can blame her for that, but the missile was already launched and she spent hundreds of years trying to stop the missile from being launched in the first place only to fail thanks to Sorin and Nissa. Now that it was launched, there was no stopping that.
@bastermaboy
@bastermaboy 4 жыл бұрын
@@lenore7777 I think your recollection of the events has some holes. Nahiri asked Sorin to help fix the seal but Sorin, being a jerk said not now, and when Nahiri said "no, now", he just put her away. Sorin only tried to fix the seal at the very last minute. He trapped her in a vault that constantly expressed itself as torture, a place that was meant for demons. She believed that much like how Sorin trapped her, that Sorin released the eldrazi. Yes it wasn't true, but I don't blame her for coming to that conclusion. >So whatever if emrakul was going to attack somewhere or not, u can’t predict that LOL. No, I can predict it. It is what Nahiri predicted too- that the eldrazi's release brings inevitable destruction everywhere. It's precisely why the eldrazi were locked up in the first place. Emrakul was going to attack someplace, at the very least, Zendikar. >she came back to Zendikar to see what had happened emrakul wasn’t on the plan, he left briefly after he was realized, and the plan was already pretty damaged, so it’s purely for vengeance Incorrect. First emrakul is a she. Second Kozilek and Emrakul both still had their broods on Zendikar. Their main bodies were elsewhere, in the blind eternities, waiting for Ulamog to finish up what he was doing before they stepped back into Zendikar. Eldrazi "reset" planes and don't care if the beings on the plane or the plane itself want it reset or not.

Still waiting on a return to Kamigawa. Sure the first block had its problems with some sub par mechanics, however with some polish and refinement to the mechanics I'd imagine it'd be fun. Kind of pissed we're visiting Zendikar and Innistraad a third time. But I guess trying to revisit other planes that have been seen once would be too much to ask. Can't be creative or take any risks, not like you are the biggest TCG in the world.

It says that she regrets the destruction she caused on Innistrad, but she never learns and continues to cause mayhem with her direct, thoughtless, bull headed approach. Her whole vendetta with Sorin started when a exhausted Sorin hearing about the small escape of the eldrazi and what she had done afterwards deciding that further investigation was unnecessary and that she had done a good job. When he refused to investigate further in his present condition she threw a tantrum and attacked him, drawing Avacyn into the fight. She outright intended to end Avacyn thereby ruining Sorin's work to protect Innistrad and it's people, forcing Sorin to use the helvault failsafe.

@Daniel Bretado Nissa also wants to stop the roils but she doesn't think killing the essence of the plane and all life directly connected with it is the answer. While classic Nahiri approach is find an answer and that becomes the only answer regardless of the cost. Nahiri treats the laylines like their only purpose is is to be repurposed, reorganized, and bent to her will. Harnessing the laylines is one thing but changing their course is as drastic as plane wide terraforming, causing the world gradually reshape itself as it tries to stabilize it's mana flow. I wouldn't be surprised if the presence of the eldrazi wasn't the real cause of the roils developing. Rather the roils formed because of the poor rerouting of the laylines path into the hedron network to contain the eldazi.

Tezzeret going from one máster to another. Ashiok making her way to New Phyrexia to make horrors into double horrors. Lukka wanting to use beasts as weapons to take over his home by force. Nahiri can't face justice for bringing Emrakul to Innistrad because Nissa, Jace, and Chandra bare responsibility for releasing the Eldrazi in the first place. No, no, no. Jace and Chandra had no clue. Nissa had a little clue (she wanted to help Zendikar, she knew there was something, but she didn't know it was a strong enemy). Nahiri knew everything and she did it on purpose (she knew the eldrazis, she attracted Emrakul to Innistrad and she knew her revenge would cost the lifes of many innocent people and would destroy a plane). And, sure, Sorin would be perfect for the job because he has a personal connection to Nahiri and the eldrazi saga, he is a new character and we don't know a lot about him. Yes, I want more Sorin hahaha.

So, they just gloss over the fact that Nahiri willingly led a world-consuming monster to another plain and killed/endangered hundreds of thousands of lives for some half-cocked, misplaced sense of retribution? WTF? WotC, please hire someone with an IQ above 60 to write your story. It would make far more sense for Nissa to want retribution on Nahiri for what she did to Innistrad AND for what she is currenrly doing to Zendikar. Hell, even Jace should be going after Nahiri. I'm pretty sure if I were responsible for the willing murder (you could argue that Emrakul does worse to her victims) of thousands of people, I'd be a wanted man, and I'd deserve a bullet through my head. I'm just hoping Sorin shows up and puts an end to her.

@thehairyyam3077
@thehairyyam3077 4 жыл бұрын
@@bastermaboy what does that have to do with anything? It's about intent. She specifically led it to Innistrad to spite Sorin, thus she was willing to sacrifice hundreds of thousands of lives simply to carry out revenge. Nissa and Sorin committed manslaughter (murder through accident/negligence). Nahiri didn't just commit murder; she committed mass genocide. She planned it, and carried it out without regard for innocent lives. The pact that The Three made to seal the Eldrazi on Zendikar had the intention to be for the good of all, and the failure to carry out their duty was not a fault of any of The Three. Even edge lord Sorin came back and attempted to rectify the problem after he discovered Ugin in his near-death state, but was ultimately betrayed by Nissa who--in her ignorance--thought she was helping Zendikar by freeing the Eldrazi. Nahiri is a murderer. A mass murderer, actually. Hell, in terms of MTG main characters, she's one of the more villainous characters made. And I really like that about her, but what I don't like is the fact that WotC writers couldn't write their way out of a 2nd grade English class.

One must also consider consequences and the bigger picture. One can have good intentions yet go around and bring about terrible consequences. Intentions aren't a great basis for morality- consequences are, however. Nissa knowingly released all three eldrazi just because she didn't want to believe Sorin when he told her that they would eat her world. Nissa thought that by releasing the Eldrazi they'd leave and go destroy and genocide some other plane instead. I consider releasing three titans worse than drawing one away, especially after the fact that Nissa knew of Emrakul's existence on Zendikar (magic origins). Sorin imprisoned one of the few people in a torturous hell abyss pit who could actually keep the seal intact just because she asked him to help and he didn't want to help until the very last minute when things were too late. Nahiri didn't plan for the deaths of every Innistrad person. In fact, she didn't even try to stop the gatewatch from sealing or fighting Emrakul because her goal wasn't to have every Innistradi die- it was just to leave Sorin to deal with the problem on his own plane. Nahiri believed Sorin released the Eldrazi onto her plane, so she just moved the eldrazi to his to spite him for that. Better his yard than hers, right? Nahiri's first thought after emerging from the Hellvault was trying to think of a way to trap the titans. But due to the PTSD and depression of thousands of years of solitude, she gave up on that, and vowed to move the Eldrazi from Zendikar to Innistad, where she was successful in doing so for one of the titans. She isn't as evil as everyone makes her to be.
@bastermaboy
@bastermaboy 4 жыл бұрын
@@thehairyyam3077 Nissa is far much more of a villain than Nahiri. Nissa released the Eldrazi believing that by doing so they'd fuck up countless other worlds and murder millions but leave her precious Ashaya and Zendikar alone. And guess what, they didn't. They tried to eat Zendikar and would go on to eat other worlds if the Gatewatch didn't stop them and if Nahiri didn't easen the fight by drawing Emrakul (who flat out crushed the gatewatch in a 1 on 1 and lost only due to a technicality) away from the battlefield.
