I'm a member of the compact phone group too. Just ordered this one (arrives tomorrow). I always hated large phones, and unfortunately, most phones (flagship, midrange or budget) tend to go big instead of compact. There are very few compact options out there. I am not ever touching an Apple product, the new S22 is way to expensive, the Pixel 6a has not yet been announced (and it will still be too expensive) so this Asus is probably gonna be my savior.

I've been rocking my Motorola Moto X4 since early 2018 (released 2017). Third Motorola in a row. I haven't kept an eye on the market much since. Now with Black Friday I started to look for phones at similar sizes. Cell phone pockets in several of my cloths is on the limit so 5 mm extra height would be too much (148 for X4). Normal hands but I don't like giant phones (more pleased with Moto X4 than Moto G4, the one I had before). I was stunned that first I couldn't find any Motorola small enough, then not shocked not finding nearly anything else (Android 11+)! I've been eyeing the Pixel 4a the last days which is about 80% higher price more than what I've normally put on phones. But there are only a few left in some shops. And I'm now looking at a Zenfone 8. Wow would be a lot more money than usual (I'm just cheap, I have money). I'm now researching the Zenfone 8 and found this video (thanks!) - great with "I've used it a while" reviews. Edit: I ordered it. 8+256 variant 😀

I''ve also been using my x4 for the past 2.5 years and now thinking about an upgrade as its speaker is dead. What I didn't like about zenfone 8 are lack of micro-sd and the high price tag. Btw what's your experience with zenfone 8 compared to moto x4?

those are totally valid arguments. it's just one of those things man. people used to say they don't get phones with resolutions above 1080p on phones, but here we are, 4k displays with 1440 displays being fairly common on phones or how about in display fingerprint readers, or USB C ports? it's just the progression of tech really. and you can't stop progress, as they say, lol. personally, I don't rely on wireless charging, but would I say no to it if offered in a phone? probably not. good topic comment 😊

I've had the phone for 2 weeks. My cons are: battery life is short. I'd charge it using powerbank in the middle of the day and i wish it charges faster (my powerbank support more than 30w changing). The live view for the camera isn't so great unlike the iphone. The exposure level would deviate wildly quite fast. And the processing speed to take a pic is slow, it'll take 3 secs after taking the photo for the image to show up in gallery And in normal use the 888 chip gets slightly warm. I'd prefer prefer it to be cool like my previous phone with 732G. And sometimes, the refresh rate on Google Chrome isn't 120hz. More like 60hz. Do note my refresh rate is 120hz permanent, and i have a 16gb ram model and I don't have much apps on the background, so idk why chrome tends to appear laggy

I really hope the Ace 3 is usable in America. I've been loving the XZ2 compact, but it's so hard to know how long I'll be able make calls with it before 2G on t-mobile gets shut down. I bought a 5 III and while I appreciate the details it's just too big, I hate it.

@@sir_hammy I'm attempting to transition from a 2014 Windows Phone that didn't survive AT&T's new VoLTE requirement and have been endlessly trying to decide between this device (Zenfone 8), the Xperia 5 II and the Pixel 4a. I would normally agree that the Xperia 5 is still too tall for my taste, but what makes me consider it over this is its much better battery life due to the lower performance chipset (which wouldn't be an issue for me). Do you have any thoughts?... (Also in the U.S.)
@sir_hammy2 жыл бұрын
@@username4699 I have been using the Xperia 5 III (I have no experience with Mark 2) for a few months and honestly, I don't enjoy it. It's too tall. I have a feeling the zenfone will feel too tall as well, but I might give it a try later on. I love the detail in Sony's phones, headphone jack, SD card support, camera shutter button. Beyond that, it's not fun to use the phone. I also really dislike Android 12 it feels very heavy.
@username46992 жыл бұрын
@@sir_hammy Thank you for the response, I would say my thoughts sync up with yours pretty well so I will heed your warning and avoid it. I briefly had a Galaxy S10e, which fits in this size range of devices, and it did feel "ok", but I didn't really get to use it in a regular/real scenario and it was without a case (it got returned when I realized the bottom microphone didn't work...). Even though these phones are about almost as small as you can get, the screens taking up the entirety of the front introduce the same problem in a different way. I don't have much experience with Android as a whole, but I have heard various complaints about 12, so I would believe you.

how is your experience with pixel 5a?
@exerciserelax87193 жыл бұрын
@@ezwanrosli772 OK... I still don't like the size/form. It's easier to hold with a case on (but that makes it even more bulky in your pocket). The screen is dimmer than my old phone (Sony). Wish it had a telephoto lens. Overall it works fine though, no major flaws.

Need a Compact Phone Crew t-shirt. AT&T's about to cut service to my XZ2 Compact next year because Sony doesn't feel like doing the arbitrary certification process for VoLTE and WiFi Calling. Does the ZF8 get these features in the USA? ATT says "HD Voice" but other some folks are talking about WiFi Call and possible 5G support.

Hi, I just ordered this device (I still can cancel the order), is there anyone with experience of using it after several months or even a year? I was choosing between Galaxy A52s and Xperia 10 III but this one has the smallest dimensions and overall better performance. But I have no experience with Asus. I have been using mostly Sony smartphones until now and usually kept them for three to four years, do you think Asus can stay reliable this long? Thanks for any recommendation!

Does the Asus Zenfone 8 have Scheduled Power On or Scheduled Power Off ? Does the alarm ring even while we switch phone off? This is a very useful feature in case it has!

Great video except you didn't cover cell coverage. What cell company are you using and how well does that work? My big hesitation is that it doesn't have all tmobile bands in US so afraid wont get good coverage? Thanks.

Well the phone's amazing, minus the fact that it stutters sometimes on bluetooth when I play it in the car (until i restart the phone) and the fact that the latest android 13 update probably fried the wifi chip after a few months of using wifi6 on it (wifi and hotspot is no longer useable). The headphone jack is still pretty awesome with the qualcomm aqstic on it

between this and Z Flip 3, which would you recommend?

oh man, that's tough. gotta understand, I'm a sucker for the new stuff and folding phones is still new and the Flip 3 is the best yet. the Zenfone will cost less, that may be something to consider

Why do you need to fold compact phone? I find no reason to. The same cannot be said to Galazy Z Fold series.

it's funny what we call chunky bezels nowadays we seem to forget what phones like iPhone and Sony looked like
@JaredBusch3 жыл бұрын
oh man, trust me, the irony is not lost on me. I even have a hard time calling them "chunky" at all. like they're still about as thin as a toothpick, but that's "chunky" by todays standards, LOL! like some people think we should be holding a single pane of glass, but they don't realize that you'll hardly be able to operate the device 'cause there'd be nothing but false touches. you'd go to scroll in twitter and end up calling your mom!
@1mezion3 жыл бұрын
@@JaredBusch I actually don't mind toothpick bezels, curved edges look awesome but it can be a pain in the ass, I don't mind having a thin bar on the top with all the sensors in it since I don't like punch holes and notches

I think that's just the new Android way of showing you that the front facing camera is currently "spying" on you. My S10e has it also. It's annoying. Like I don't know that the camera is always watching. I think it's some legal crap that they have to officially tell you that the camera is "watching".

@@brutlern that's not good, I guess we will have to covering the camera with some sticker when not in use or just get the flip version
