Zero Breeze saw my other videos and contacted me recently asking if I wanted to partner on a this video with them to talk about my experience after one year, and answer several of the questions that come up on my other videos and on the user groups.
My experience after one year of use, and answers to all the question being asked about the Mark 2.
I've broken the video up into chapters so you can skip to the part that will help most!
00:00 - Introduction
01:51 - My impression after one year. How has it held up?
03:59 - Will this Mark 2 cool my van, car, boat, tent, etc?
05:19 - It's so expensive, who is this for, is it worth it?
08:14 - Does it work better at night? Will it cool my space at night?
09:39 - Can I run it from a battery?
10:37 - How much power does it use? How long with it run?
12:58 - Why do you run both hoses on the back outside?
19:51 - Why not just buy one of those cheap "portable air coolers"?
24:34 - Some guy online said the Mark 2 is a scam!
25:30 - Where does all the condensation go?
27:22 - Is it noisy?
28:57 - Conclusion

I have been living van live wile in the navy for a few years. I have two battery modules out of a Tesla module a. I build a window unit and plumbed it all Into my super small Japanese camper. After that disappointment I went went back to hanging a window unit out my rear window. I have a large dog that I have to keep alive. The first model of this I knew wouldn’t work because they literally suck in air. Now that I have seen this improvement. I’m going to give them a shot. Because it’s more than enough to cool my cab over space. Which is where my dog hangs out while I’m at work and where we sleep. Thank you for the informative video

We replaced an old Dometic in our 36 foot camper (vented). kzbin.infoUgkxDDbPbIlwLRcX_ntp51ui5UMtAUGpHYxE The install was a simple swap, all holes lined up, the electric plug back in with no trouble. Getting it on the camper was the most "difficult" part of it, and my friend made it look easy. I've seen people "sled" them up ladders as well though. I watched a KZbin video for instructions, very easily done. Some say it doesn't come with instructions, but I found the instructions under the ac in the box. I didn't need them, but they were there.It works well to keep a 36 footer comfortable, all by itself. It doesn't seem to be any quieter than the original, but it isn't any louder either. We're very pleased with it. Esp with the ease of swapping them out.

Most comprehensive review yet......well done. Yes a spot cooler.....not a space cooler. I use it in my semi truck to cool me at night....not the space. A key thing I learned (videos at my channel) was to try and achieve no 45 to 90 degree turns in the intake and exhaust hoses.....plus keep those hoses as short as possible. I am not getting the hours out of the Mark 2 batteries but they are working with me to determine if it's the batteries or the unit by exchange.....so great CS so far. Bottom line it's an amazing technology and I will not look back either. Cheers to using it as it's meant to be used and sharing a real well thought out review!

How long does each battery last? I’m in hotshot trucking and I’m between buying this or a generator with a small ac unit. I’m leaning more towards an ac unit with a generator because of costs but the mark zero breeze looks more convenient and takes up less space I was just wondering how long each battery last on economy setting?

I just bought one of these and living in a very humid hot part of Texas, I use it like you said as a spot cooler, I go night fishing a lot and the humidity is so high you just sit and pour sweat, not anymore with this and the light comes in handy camping in a tent or tying a new hook on things like that. As long as you keep an open mind and realize this isn’t going to cool a big space you’ll like it. I also sit mine in the bed of my sidexside point the hose at the back of my head close my windshield and drive around my neighborhood on these 106 degree days, I’m enjoying it.

If SWEAT is your issue then you need a $2 fan. If HEAT is your issue you need an air conditioner. This, however, is not good at either. Where I live summer peaks 130F. Humidity isn't an issue. It's dry terrible heat that'll strip the soul out your body in a day if you don't carry enough water. This is NOT a good alternative. It's weight and requirements to make it run are way out of spec for a single camper. And it's not good for vehicles compared to built in vehicle air conditioners. Air conditioning doesn't work by shoving the output hose on your nipples. That's not a functional air conditioner.

That’s great to know. For RV’s with a bedroom that has a door and can be isolated, would it cool an area that size, say it’s big enough to accommodate a Queen size bed, and has the shower on one side, and water closet on the other. I wish I had a better idea of the Square footage, but my cousins live in theirs, thinking this would be a nice gift from our family to them.

Thank You. With the rising cost of fuel I've been looking for alternatives to idling overnight. Heat isn't a problem, a power station will take care of my fridge, but Air Con has been the big hurdle. I think this might be the ticket and after my calculations, will pay for itself with 2 batteries in less than a month.

Thats great that Zerobreeze contacted you. I contacted them when i originally purchased the Mark 1 AC about the fact that the unit needed major modifications to work and to see if they would consider accepting it back so I coukd get this new unit. No communication back, hmmmm. I did end up using this new unit and the main problems with this unit at least for a van set up is the following (I am no engineer, so I know there are challenges): 1.)24v current requires a 12v to 24v step up converter, which will generate a significant amount of heat. 2.) If you run it off an inverter, the AC house adapter generates heat. 3.) Due to the size of the BTUs, the compressor and condenser coils needs to be outside to maximize cooling capacity. 4.) Way to much plastic material that eats up space in your rig, makes it cumbersome with the hoses. Oh and your voice is legit, great video😊
@Polymathicus
@Polymathicus 10 ай бұрын
Good points. On the first one...when I upgraded my 12 to 24V converter to a higher amperage model it didn't get nearly as hot as the lesser one I had. I could grab it most of the time. I guess if it's rated for more amps than you're using, it struggles less. But for sure, putting a heat generator in a space you're cooling is well....

No problem. I don't recall off hand. I mention it in my videos about the converter install and in those video descriptions. 20 or 25amp. They get a bit pricier as you go up, but in my experience you can't go wrong getting a bigger converter than your specs call for. I was just trying to be cheap at first.

@@Polymathicus, OK, sounds good. I did purchase a 300 watt for my 150 watt raft motor and it still gets pretty hot. I will try a larger converter or install a fan. Heat isn't as big of an issue when your outside. Thanks again for the info.

I think the zero breeze is a neat device (had to try not to say "cool" haha). It is what it is, a tiny phase change ac. "Tiny" is the key word, expecting too much from it is like expecting a single $150 6k btu air conditioner to cool an office building.
@Polymathicus

Neat works. And good comparison, that's definitely a common theme is expecting more than it can deliver.

I’ve been very skeptical of this unit’s ability to cool my truck topper camping setup at night in the Southeast. I just want something to keep me dry and cool at night, but was not convinced that this unit could do it. For me, camping in the Southeast is not an option for about 5 months out of the year, so if this unit can keep me dry and cool at night, it’s worth the money to have the option to camp anytime of the year. Thank you so much for this detailed video as it has completely reversed my thinking.

You're welcome. If you're ok with cooling YOU, and not the whole space necessarily, then it's a viable solution for sure. The best use I've seen for sleeping in that kind of environment is to put the hose under the covers which apparently with "freeze you out" according to one user.

@@Polymathicus I'm a Private Investigator here in California. During summer time it gets really hot specifically if not parked under a tree/shade. If I were to purchase the Zero breeze, I would most likely put the hot air expelling at the trunk of my compact sedan. Do you recommend this as a P.I working every single day during summer time? Thank you!
@Polymathicus
@Polymathicus Жыл бұрын
That is what I used it for. Except it's a bit hotter here. It's not going to cool the vehicle in those conditions, just you, so the "rule" of putting both rear condenser hoses outside is not entirely necessary because it's always going to be hot inside and you're not keeping anything separated at that point. You do absolutely need to get the hot exhaust hose on the back outside, but the intake is not so important. In fact I experimented with leaving the back "intake" hose inside and just cracking windows. This had some effect in exhausting some of the hot air inside, out of the vehicle and just generally got air moving around. My focus was just pointing the front cool air hose at my face and upper body, and occasionally up under my shirt, or up the leg of my shorts. The remote is nice if you're not next to it because as long as the unit is strapped down, if you have to take off you can leave it running and then reach back while driving and turn it off with the remote. I used a Swampy ice model for 14 years and it was wonderful (as long as I pulled in dry air from outside), but this was a game changer to not have to buy ice every day. You do need a big battery to run the Mark 2 all day. I just turned it on when I'd had enough of the heat. I also made custom Reflectix shades that I glued black fabric onto each side that fit perfectly into each of my windows, which kept the heat load down.

I wonder if you could use the cool condensation water to provide swamp-cooler like efficiency to the incoming outside air? This would have the benefit of vaporising and exhausting it. Maybe a simple wick leading into the inlet air hose would do?
@Polymathicus
@Polymathicus 2 жыл бұрын
Interesting idea. The only issue I can see is that in the desert where the swamp cooler action would be most beneficial, the Mark 2 doesn't produce any condensation. But I still like the idea, as super dry air conditioned air is even drier and can always use some moisture.

Incredible Review! Thanks. Have the same Bluetti power station and thinking about buying the Zero Breeze based on your review! I also watched your video on making the 12-24 converter, and have a question... How did you know how it was pinned? any chance you plan on making and SELLing those cables you made? Also, why did you go with anderson connectors? rather than an aviation plug and use the original cable to plug into it?
@Polymathicus
@Polymathicus 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, thanks. The AC power brick has a pinout diagram on it. Which I found later....after using a multimeter on the cord coming out of the brick to figure it out through trial and error. Don't think I'll be selling the cables since there are so many cable ends and length needs for different users. Went with the Andersons because my Goal Zero Yeti battery had an Anderson output, so, made an anderson cable, and bought an Anderson kit, and now I use Anderson. No other reason really.

I did find very small "split" systems when researching AC's years ago but they were mostly made to be a permanent install, more for OEM purposes, so I didn't pursue them.

Thanks for the review, i am looking to put this is my boat cabin. It is very small. Maybe 7 feet by 10 feet. Just big enough to fit a queen size bed for camping and to crawl in. The walls are very well insulated and there are no windows to let in heat. Could it really cool that space properly? Thanks for any advice. I live in south Florida and it gets hot. I will also mainly use this at night.....unless the kids take a nap during the day.

Larger spaces are difficult and that size is much bigger than Zero Breeze rates the Mark 2 as far as cooling capacity. However, many online have great success cooling spaces at night, and if you are in an adequately insulated enclosed space with both hoses coming out the back routed to the outside then you have a chance. Just need to keep in mind that bodies generate a considerable amount of heat, so if you're putting several in that space you have a 2300BTU air conditioner trying to cool the air and fight the heat generated by the people.

I liked your video you covered pretty much everything i needed. I've had my eyes on this particular model for while now because i know now that it must have a compressor and refrigerant unlike all those fake ones like Artic Air. Ect. However i don't know where to buy one of these guys for the best deal i know there pretty expensive plus with the battery being separate. I think if they included the battery i would for sure have already bought one and so many other people. Thnx

No doubt it's pricey, and I haven't seen or heard about any big discounts yet. But as far as I know it's the only compressor driven real air conditioner like it in that form factor, so they kind of own the market.

Of course, if you generator has a built in or external inverter you could plug in the included Mark 2 ac power supply to that.

Thank you for the review. I just bought the Bluetti AC300- It would be a great vid if you show how exactly you hook up to your AC200 without using the Zero breeze battery. I did see your adapter 12>24v adapter you use, but where did you plug it in on the unit? In the cigarette port or the yellow connector thing:) sorry don't know the name, port?
@Polymathicus
@Polymathicus 2 жыл бұрын
It's dependent on the battery in question. I used anderson connectors when I had a Yeti battery, but yes, with the Bluetti (I'm not familiar with what the AC300 has) I think the "yellow" connectors are probably XT60, could be 90. I just used the cigarette port in the video because I haven't bought any XT60 hardware yet or the AC200MAX 12V two pin output jack they put on there. Just need to find an "out" port on your battery that puts out sufficient amperage and work from there. I have a video posted where I show wiring it up to the converter if you're interested.

Excellent video review! Can you use this as a heater in cold weather by having the exhaust hose come inside and having the evaporator hose vent outside?
@Polymathicus
@Polymathicus 2 жыл бұрын
There are AC's that "reverse" the process and are marketed as having a heat pump, but this Mark 2 unfortunately isn't one. As it gets colder, even the heat pump AC's don't work very well. To do what you're suggesting might freeze up the system in short order as the air conditioner is made to have cold and warm air going into and out of certain places to stay happy. But, that's just my theory....I'd like to see someone (else) try it!

@@Polymathicus I can't see why this wouldn't work...?
@Polymathicus

So, I did contact Zero Breeze to get clarification and they confirmed they ARE supporting users "turning it around" and using as a heater. However...since this doesn't have a heat pump, and isn't specifically designed to run in reverse or defrost itself, it's only recommended down to 50F. Somewhere online I read 45F, but their email said 50. Either way that limits it's usefulness in cold temps.

I have an idea to funnel the cool air via tube to a specially made opening in a sleeping bag, to stay cool during night. As you've stated it can keep one cool despite it not cooling a space. I wonder how my experiment shall go when I get this air conditioner.
@Polymathicus
@Polymathicus Жыл бұрын
Chime back in and let us all know if you make it happen. I've seen one other post somewhere about a similar use case and they said they were "frozen out" in the middle of the night after putting the hose under their blankets, so it might be the way to go.
