I'm not a fusion guy either Darren. But I have done beauty ( acne, wrinkles , scars etc. ) using the surface tracker - most tutorials using surface tracker do shirt logos and such - but I've found that I can do really precise tracking using the surface tracker which also allows you to add texture back to skin where the smoothing happens - it works really good and for us people who like to stay on the color page - works great from there as well. Good to know about the cloning tool in fusion. Pretty sure most of us have used the cloning tool in Photoshop in our lives. Patch replacement is great for those quick removals of wall plugs or wires etc. that seem to pop up in corporate interviews. I keep thinking I should revisit learning Fusion, but then it seems to eat up a ton of time, so I am reluctant to go down that rabbit hole again. Cheers - good info here.

Thanks Jim - yes the inspiration for making this after using it all week was that you only need to learn a few good tools in Fusion if you are never going to master its entire scope (like me!). I'll do some more!! Thanks again, glad you enjoyed it.

As always Darren, a quick, concise and valuable lesson. (I'm building up quite a library of them. :) I'm working on a project where I need to replace a lot of screens and signs, so rather than farm it out to an FX house, I do it myself in Fusion. I'm almost always using the Planar Tracker, but sometimes some greens screen with Delta Keyer. Not only does it earn a few extra valuable ££, but it also means I can more easily grade the whole shot to blend it the extra elements so it looks real. (Often easier to grade each underlying element rather than deal with a final flattened composite. Your tutorial here has taught me not only the main subject of the video, but also a number of extra tips and features... Thanks.

An amazing coincidence that you have made this video when I've just been asked to remove a piece of thread from a singers shirt from a 4 min video of him performing solo with an acoustic guitar. Previously I have done things like exporting all the offending frames as tiffs after completing the colour work, and then using Photoshop to heal/clone things out (including noise "debris" 😂) . I had started using Resolve to do this thread removal but wasn't happy with my method....this is much better so thanks Darren!

Nice tutorial! Another thing worth trying if it's difficult to "clone-erase" in a convincing way is to export a still and bring it to Photoshop. Let generative fill create a patch erasing whatever you want erased. Bring the patch back into Fusion and surface track it above the clip. With poor skills in both Photoshop and Fusion I still managed to erase a lav microphone on a difficult background in a very convincing way.

@DarrenMostynАй бұрын
I didnt cover it in the video as wanted to keep it short. I had to do about 5% off the music video manually. Just dont track and keyframe the centre point instead of going to tracker. Im not an expert in Fusion so TBH there may be better ways. Im just sharing my limited skillset in Fusion here.

Great tutorial as per usual. For those that would like to stay in the patch tool realm, there is a way to avoid the ellipse, that I'm sure you know, but make available for those that don't. Make a window with the polygon tool and then in the patch replace effect, in the region shape instead of using the ellipse choose alpha channel. It allows for much greater precision. As for the paint tool I have many times struggled with making good trackings of the painted area. So maybe I should be watching tracking tutorials instead.

Track the group is what I did. Occasionally it missed but then I just manually keyframes. But 95% was great. I used the IntelliTrack option.

I usually use Patch Replacer in color page, using alpha channel, and I have a node before where I do a mask the shape I want, track it, manually I can adjust and I feed that to the Patch Replacer node. Then I keyframe in the Patch replacer node from were it will take the spot to copy in case the shot is complicated. It never failed me so far. Also you can add some softness if you need for the replacements

You can do all the here too including softness. Whichever way works for you is always the best way!

Can you do a video on why resolve is having a color shift when exporting with a Mac? I tried all the tutorials for the proper iMac & Macbook setup / DaVinci YRGB color management / proper delivery gamma export settings, but so far I'm still experiencing the same problem.
@Cre8iveMedia5 күн бұрын
I just wanted to add that, (although if someone knows a better way let us all know) when I do this I 1st create one tiny stroke where I want the tracker point to be, then go back to the group and add the additional strokes to cover, because if you need to move the tracking point then it also moves the painted mask, as the tracker point is bound to the middle of the strokes, this is good form something that is easy tracked, but some longer items to cover or where something obscures that area it can break the track. I am sure there must be a way to ungang the tracker point to the group of strokes and hopefully someone will let me/us know

Me neither - so thats why I did this tutorial !! Just COPY me exactly step by step and it works - I dont know how to use Fusion except maybe 4 or 5 cool tricks! Thats enough for me - after that I want a specialist working on it! Take an hour out of your time and try each one on the same shot and see which gives best results. then you'll get it. I just took default and it worked great - that was after playing with other settings. Sometimes I switch pattern to tracker but I didnt want to get into that here. Sometimes I had to manually track too - again - keeping this episode short! All the best, Darren
