This might've been the case at the beginning of the show, but one very important thing to mention that I'm sad wasn't touched on in this video is how lelouch's motives change DRASTICALLY at the end, once he's abandoned by the black Knights, his goal is no longer to destroy Britannia for a better future for his sister, his goal is to become the demon in the eyes of everyone in order to creat a better future for everyone, not just his sister. We directly see this happen in 2 scenes, #1 when he's video talking with his sister (who he presumed to be dead at that point) and tells her that he never cared about her and only did everything for his own gain, trying to keep up with the "demon" facade that he's been working on. And the second time was when they saw each other face to face and lelouch used his Geass on the one person he promised to never use it on, it becomes even more sad when we see her fall down the stairs and lelouch does absolutely nothing about it. @garywillig51433 жыл бұрын
The differences are numerous. Lelouch faced a broken system that truly needed someone to come along and fix it. Light just decided to be judge jury and executioner even to those who were already sentenced and punished by society. Lelocuh thought of himself as a king who had responsibilities - 'if the king doesn't lead' - while Light thought of himself as a god who was owed everything and was not required to give anything. Lelouch had lines he would not cross and limits to how far he would push his power, while Light began using the Death Note on people he knew to be good the moment he started facing opposition. Lelouch, knowing he could only use his power once per person, still never used it to make people his slaves who would obey any order until the very end, when he was planning to take himself out with his father and then needed a fearless army to take on a space station that shoots unlimited nukes. Lastly, Lelouch was constantly learning and growing. He learned from C.C., from Milly, from Suzaku, from Shirley. He learned to fight for others and not just for Nunally. Light never grew after he decided to become god. He was the same in episode 37 as he was in episode 2. Even if he learned more about his enemies or his powers, he didn't learn anything about life or people.

While geass, and it’s very name are more linked to older myths were being a hero is just based off of having extraordinary power where it’s the manner in how that power is used is what makes that person good or evil. Lelouch experienced direct trauma from those in power. Light was a rich psychotic son of a cop. He’d never experienced death or pain or loss. Not like lelouch. That’s the difference. Lelouch may have questionable methods, but he has righteous cause birthed from his material circumstances. Light may have ‘righteous cause’ but it’s purely hypothetical, it’s not lived. He sees himself as a paternal authority figure like his dad, or better than his dad. He’s a solipsist. Mainly people say that the series ends when Light wins his battle with L, however there is a specific reason WHY it keeps going for as long as it did. People live in fear of Kira, the live their lives knowing at any moment they could be next and this isn't just among criminals. At the end of the day, sure, did Lelouch kill more innocent people than Light? Maybe? I don't really know the exact count as its been a little while. That being said its context that ultimately matters. Case and point, the events of Bloodstained Euphemia. Had Lelouch been able to avoid his small mistake, and gone for a peaceful resolution to that entire affair, I'm more than positive he would have. Now true, he did capitalize on the tragedy but he was aware of the consequences of his actions with each step he took. That's the ultimate difference between Light and Lelouch, only one of them realized the true fact of becoming a monster. The only ones who should kill are those who are prepared to be killed.

The question of "should we overhaul the entirety of a corrupt war-mongering racist colonizing state or should we inact social reform to better said state" is a very relevant question right now, and how to best achieve either of those goals is being keenly debated in law-making and activist circles. While's Light's contention of killing all criminals so there would be no crime becomes a lot stupider when we all know a lot more now about the school to prison pipeline, the prison industrial complex, the causation between poor infrastructure and crime rates, police brutality etc. So like, Lelouch all the way

Great video! I think one of the biggest differences between the two is that, while Lelouch does stumble a couple of times, ultimately he does both achieve his goal and live up to one of his own philosophies. "The only ones who should kill, are those prepared to be killed." He ultimately does plan his own death, proving that it applies even to himself. Obviously, he didn't want to die before he had made the world his sister could live peacefully in, but he realized that for it to exist, he'd need to be killed after he got the entire world to hate him. He didn't care that he'd be remembered as a demon who betrayed the world, as long as his sister was able to live peacefully. Another big difference is how he was affected by how his actions affected those around him.

More than once he paid a high price for his actions! . . . . . . . . When he thought he had no other choice, he even trapped himself in the other dimension with his father in order to stop him! And his arc is superb! When even his sister, the one he was doing all this for, turned against him, he knew he had gone too far to give up and understand he needs to do it for everyone, and not just for her. His story is heartbreaking!

Light: I can write your name and then- Zero shoots him down: You were saying? Okay be honest, Lelouch and Light are great characters (though I prefer Lelouch more because his genius always ups his opponent's) but in a fight... 80% of the time Lelouch wins. Like Zero only needs to do is look at Light and boom, Geas (reveal his target as Kira or commit death to the king) and if revealed, Zero shoots him because Zero always has the means to get rid of his opponent with other means. Light needs to figure out who Zero is, and write Lelouch's REAL NAME and if he ends up with Lamperouge, GG for Zero but Light (which given more time) learns it's vi Britannia, GG for Light. Light can win without any difficulty but the special part about Lelouch is how much smarter he is against his foes and his use of his power with his Geas is far superior in usage. As for their character... Lelouch, again. He's done horrible acts, committed numerous deaths (even those he didn't mean to) and yet has the most "compassion". He still has his emotions, he still thinks of himself as human. Even with the godly power of the King Command, Lelouch did all of this for revenge, for Nunnally, for himself... and eventually for everyone. He even became a demon emperor just so the world could hate him and begin a journey to true peace. Light always had the potential to be good but his ego, his soul tainted by the Death Note made him into a monster. I think if Lelouch got the Death Note, he would just destroy it, deeming it as a thing that should never exist even among men. His sense of justice is far stronger.

I happen to be of the opinion that the similarities between Light and Lelouch are, for the most part, superficial. If there's a character in Code Geass who makes for a suitable comparison for Light, it's Schneizel. I've come to the conclusion, though, that the most important distinction between Kira and Zero is that Light is, simply put, delusional. He operates on a broken, black-and-white moral logic that completely excludes the possibility of him being anything but a saint. Everyone who opposes him is evil by definition. Not unlike Suzaku, in a way. Meanwhile, Lelouch never lies to himself about what kind of person he is. He knows he's going to have to pay for his crimes eventually and he accepts that as a price for changing the world with the "wrong" methods.

Light was a sociopath and/or narcissist who did everything for himself and viewed everything as a game. Lelouch was a person who hated what he had to do but did everything for someone else (even if he fundamentally misunderstood what she actually wanted). Light is more like Walter White than he is like Lelouch, and Walt's last line to Skyler pretty much could sum up Light's character as well (if he ever had the honesty with himself to admit it anyway). Lelouch constantly does it.

it occured to me recently that light's detached sense of justice despite not suffering an injustice himself and his judgement on those who oppose him takes a whole new light (hah) when you take into account his father being a police officer. he likely grew up hearing about his father's job and the frustration he felt when letting criminals get away, you can easily see how it fostered a black and white mentality in light of guilty/not guilty, and what makes it worse is that japan has a very high conviction rate because it's the police often don't want to accept they made a false arrest. definitely a cultural context that would contribute to light's mindset.

It's been confirmed by the creators that Light was pure evil and by the end of the series he truly was, he had good intentions in the beginning but he lost his way. Lelouch was never evil even though he did some evil things he did it for the greater good, he did it because he knew there was no other way. He believed that in order to vanquish evil he must become evil. Also unlike Light who never cared about anyone l Lelouch cared about people around him like his sisters, friends and saved them many times. Lelouch also sacrificed himself so that his sister's dream becomes a reality Light would never do something like that Light wanted to attain god status by using the death note, he wanted you reshape the world into what he wanted it to be, a world he will be all powerful and considered a god among men.

I think it’s a sad idea thought up by the rich and fearful. Lelouch actually works to build a better world after his death. Light has no plans for a world post his death, because of his solipsism that allows him to become Kira and never have a nervous breakdown. Like he immediately gets comfortable being a god. He always saw himself like that, just never had a way to rationalise it to himself before the death note

There needs to be more shows like Code Geass and Death Note that are extremely entertaining and have ver deep questions and present forth the dilemma of morality and showing that even people with beautiful intentions have dark means of accomplishing them and are willing to cast their souls and lives away if it means achieving it and making it a reality. I was in a dark place and after watching Code Geass I reevaluated my life and sought to make it better and improve myself instead of just seeing only negative outcomes to making a difference. People NEED to stop comparing Code Geass against each other comparing Light/Kira against Lelouch. It would be like a parent verbally insulting one of their twin children and praising the other in front of them both. They have very similar surface details to each other. Both have uncharacteristically grand voice acting with English and Japanese boice actors, the main character wishes to correct the suffering and corruption in the world by any means but like the easy means to take the first step, have younger sister that they aim to make this new future for, both are granted powers that allow them to begin this global change into a better tomorrow, both's powers/gifts are extremely useful and advantageous but have strict limitations and potentially detrimental downsides, and have minds that would make people Albert Einstein either proud or jealous. However, aside from that, the shows are completely different.

The problems with the intelligence between lelouche and light is, when lelouche doesone if his plans it almost works every time, but we don't know why it was so smart. Lelouche seems to know the things from the get go. All the military manoeuvers are known to him because he knows his family. there were years between him getting to exile (or died in the eyes of a lot of his family members) and they seem to havent improved at all since then. While Light doesn't always make the smartest move, but eitherway explains to the audience why he did it. And I could almost everytime see why he did it with his explanation. A few of the stupid things he did: killing lind l. Taylor, killing the fbi, make misa write a useless letter, and trusting mikami too much. Are all born from his ego, the one thing bigger than his intelligence.
@tandemdwarf7453 жыл бұрын
Lelouch DID make mistakes, even against his family members. After his first excursion as Zero, his ego gets a bit out of hand and he rushes to take on Cornelia. If you recall, he survives that encounter by the skin of his teeth solely because CC decides to help him. That's the best example, but Lelouch loses quite often, When Suzaku uses the Fleija, when the Black Knights betray him, when Rolo kills Shirley, When Nunnally is kidnapped at the end of season one and when she joins Charles at the end of season two. Also, the military HAS improved since Lelouch was a kid, we see that the Knightmares from the invasion of Japan get absolutely bodied by the newer ones. Lelouch does have a leg up in terms of military strategy, but we see that his strategies are challenged and not always successful, and that he is forced to learn from his mistakes. Also, many of his plans, such as dressing everyone up as Zero and smuggling them off the continent or the entire Zero Requiem are 20% strategy he would have learned and 80% him coming up with his own great ideas.

With no prep, Lelouch would win a 1 v 1 battle pretty handedly. Not even a contest. With prep and starting at episode 1 power levels, Light would never let Lelouch anywhere near him. Light thrives on anonymity under a distant, public persona while Lelouch prefers to be a mysterious, yet close public force. Light would first use the internet and the justice department to pick away at Lelouch’s identity until he had a solid lead. Lelouch at base has some interesting friends, but they’re usually more interested in dressing up as cats. Lelouch has a knowledge resource deficit, while knowledge-access is one of Light’s greatest early assets. Light’s first reaction is never a face-to-face battle until he is 100% certain he’s won. The hint of Lelouch having strange powers would keep Light far away. He then would respond to that supernatural hunch with henchmen and elaborate tests to eventually trap Lelouch. Light’s only failing is that, if he doesn’t realize the true nature of the Geass, he might be there in person at the end and foil his own plans. If Lelouch tries to go public as Zero to counter Light, that makes Light’s job significantly easier. If Light knows where his enemy is, he has the global reach of the Death Note via modern technology to never need to be in range of the Geass. Light thrives on anonymity and red herring fall guys. Lelouch prefers to be on the front lines of his own battles even when disguised. It boils down to how they both play chess. Light will sacrifice every piece on the board before the king falls, while Lelouch plays the king near-recklessly.

I see a few problems here, Light’s access to the justice system only reaches as far as his Father’s work, it depends on which verse this would be set in on whether or not he would be able to use that. Starting at Episode 1, Light has no access to Shinigami eyes nor anyone else who does, so he has no way of figuring out Zero’s identity, especially when you consider that even amoung the royal family, Charles is the only one who knows that Lelouch is alive. Beyond that, only Suzaku and the Ashford family know of his real identity, and Light has no way to make a connection between Suzaku and Lelouch even if he does make a connection between Zero and Lelouch, which is a huge task by itself, even Schneizel only figured that out because Cornelia told him. Lelouch doesnt need to go public to beat Light since Light doesnt have a viable way to figure out that Zero is Lelouch.

Also, Light doesnt have any way to know that Lelouch has strange powers

Even more, especially if we are going by Episode 1 Light, Light is extremely easy to taunt, as shown by how easily L narrowed down his location.

In response to the good rebuttals, I think we would need to set an agreed stage for a prepped battle. However, since Light is 2006 Japan and Lelouch is *checks notes* 1962 Japan (wut), maybe we should consider a scenario where they both live in a Japan that can they can both somehow cohabitate during this scenario. I was originally considering their respective approaches to gaining influence and power starting from episode 1 in a scenario where they both are seeking to be the dominant force in the world. I was coming from a starting point where both do not know of the other's existence prior to their respective rises to power. Once they make their presences known, then the cat and mouse game would likely commence. To note, since Light lives in Japan and can access Japanese justice department info (a natural development from his Stage 1 base), he can look into other Japanese citizens, including Lelouch, who would be a Japanese citizen even though he's originally from Britannia. Once they begin looking into the other, I do admit that Lelouch would first get the chance to realise that Light has the weird powers first when Light goes all god-complex, where Light would think Lelouch is a showboat that happens to have a bit of weird charisma. It would not be until Light starts placing goons on the board to test Lelouch that the Geass powers would become more apparent.

@@archarchivistarchelaus299 Code Geass is set in 2017-2018, but on the Imperial Brittanian Calender, which means that there is no valid conversion to our calender available. The biggest problem here is setting. Since if its set in Japan, then Lelouch has no reason to become Zero in the first place, but if its set in Area 11, Light doesnt have access to police force info, or a plethora of other things, since he is Japanese. Later down the line, without Area 11, Lelouch also cant make the Black Knights. So setting the battle in Japan in any state gives one of them a huge home field advantage.

I think it’s interesting that a lot of people seem to think lelouch’s main motive was revenge, I always thought he was doing it all for his sister, that she was the main reason and revenge was just a side benefit

Well light is being portrayed as a more realistic character compared to lelouch. Most people would end up like him if they stumbled upon something as powerful as a death note.

Lelouch: does it all for his cute beloved sister, gets a hot wife, immortality, ducks all the paparazzi by dying live on national television (all according to plan). Light: kid with bullying problems thinks he's super smart because he was the first to count to 100 in kindergarten.

I would say that one of the biggest differences between these two characters is how their lives ended. Light Yagami was outmaneuvered and beaten by Near, his power taken away and his secret revealed. Instead of facing defeat, Light looses it, like a wild animal that's been cornered. He tries so desperately to slip out of this defeat, but ultimately runs away, bleeding and crying. He is killed by the being that set him on this path, and he dies alone. Lelouch got everything he wanted. He killed his father, took over Britannia, destroyed the corrupt aristocracy and conquered the world. And after two months of being Emperor of the Earth, Lelouch threw it all away. He planned his own assassination, in front of the crowds and cameras, at the hands of his best friend. All so that the cycle of hatred could end, and for Zero to become a symbol for justice. He could've kept going. He could've been the ruler of the world for a very long time. Ruled it however he liked. But instead, Lelouch threw away all selfish ambitions and sacrificed himself so that the world could become a better place. In the world of Death Note, Light never achieved his dream of a perfect new world. Kira went down in history as a mass murderer while Light Yagami went down as the one who gave his life to stop Kira. In the world of Code Gease, Lelouch achieved his dream, but couldn't live to see it. Lelouch Vi Britannia went down in history as a Devil, but Zero went down as a hero.

Your video was nice, but you weren't being fair to Light. You accused him of doing something Lelouch is also guilty of. Being that they killed those that they wanted to inhabit the new world. Light only killed criminals and those who apposed Kira. While Lelouch had Monica, the Valkarie Squadron, the Glaston Knights, and countless more killed. If it's because they're evil, then why not kill Guilford or Villetta or Nina. Also, I think it's more half and half who would win depending on the scenario, If Lelouch was part of the task force, then he just has to ask Light if he's Kira and how he kills, and it's over. But if Light strikes around Zero Requiem when Lelouch has his name and face everywhere, he'll be dead in 40 seconds.

Light would’ve continued living a regular life without that Death Note. But Lelouch, oh boy, he said Geass only sped things up. He would’ve still been a great strategist even without Geass. Manipulating pieces would’ve been harder, but he’d just take the safer route to achieve his goal, be it on a smaller scale than the original.

In the manga it's heavily implied that near did use the Death Note to kill kira X. There trully might be something about the Death Note wanting to be used.
