Might be something that happens in the future, but tbh I don't feel like I'm trapped in a box just because of the name of the channel. The goal is just to make content for the audience who are interested in Stormgate, and if they're anything like me they're also intrigued by other upcoming RTS :).

Regret so badly only found out about the free weekend event this morning 😢😢😢😢 game was a lot of fun ( for the 3 meager hours I was able to play), every faction is fun to play, the inclusion of the mercenary faction makes it very interesting way to alternate the base strategy of the three main factions, and the game looks so damn gorgeous, the level of detail on the troops was amazing when zooming in, their voice lines are on point specifically enjoyed the legion troops voice line. Really the only RTS I was looking forward to this/next year was Tempest Rising but Zero Space really impressed me, kudos to the devs great work!

The mercenary mixing is the weirdest part to me. “Those invading(?) grell are strange lads, but they pay well….” I came back to say; it’s funny how we are drawn to various factions in rts. You go with human nature and go with the most human one. I’ve always been drawn to the weird, the grossest, the most swarmy. Zerg, and undead calls to me.

Are they invading? Also I don't think the mercs are necesarily human. Just minor factions that couldn't stand on their own so they chose a side (or in the real world a side would be chosen for them)

@@MrRolnicekyea I’m not sure if they are, from the cutscenes it looks like the humans are trying to do something to them so maybe they are only reacting, I’ve only seen this game from afar. I didn’t think of mercenaries being more than humans tbh.

I like ZeroSpace, there definitely are some issues, but I'm also not a fan of how there's so much positivity surrounding it that boils down to "I'm glad its not StormGate!" My issues with ZeroSpace though are very similar to my issues with StormGate. Overall, I think StormGate is actually the better game right now, but ZeroSpace looks nicer. My main three comparisons of the two: Visuals: ZeroSpace easily takes this. StormGate looks a lot better than it did a few weeks ago, but ZeroSpace looks great, especially when zoomed in, though I do think the models should look better zoomed out and be designed around that level of zoom. It is harder to tell what's happening in ZeroSpace because of all the projectiles, but they still look really good. I'll add that I prefer ZeroSpace's sound design to StormGate here, (excluding the AI voice placeholders) though it isn't as major of a point for me. A lot of readability issues with Grell though, most of the units look the same. Gameplay: StormGate is very smooth, but there are imbalances. I haven't played enough ZeroSpace to tell how balanced it is, but the balance does feel nicer. Creeps are a major focus of StormGate and feel like they were just added in ZeroSpace just because, the resource balance in ZeroSpace sucks, and there are a lot of input issues I was noticing. ZeroSpace also feels novel here, but overall StormGate is just very intuitive and smooth to the point that despite the few issues it still has, I have to say I prefer StormGate's gameplay. The resource system of ZeroSpace is unique, but the balance between resources is just not good right now. General Playability: when I get stuck on "match found" in ZeroSpace for multiple minutes after being on "looking for match" for a few minutes, and in StormGate I'm on "looking for match" for a few minutes, followed by actually getting in the match, I have to say I prefer StormGate, since I haven't been able to actually play a ZeroSpace match with other humans, only against AIs in the custom mode. Overall, I think StormGate's failure is the only reason ZeroSpace is so highly praised right now. If ZeroSpace had their free weekend first then StormGate released, I think people would say ZeroSpace just looked nice while needing a lot of polish plus the missing faction and mercenary factions, and while they definitely still not be praising StormGate if it still released in the state it did for Early Access, people would be preferring StormGate over ZeroSpace, especially with all the improvements StormGate has and is going to have.

I also think there's many issues due to low funding and fewer developers, but i think the hype of it being not Stormgate is more a joke going around than anything, and really downplays what Starlance Studios has done People are moreso hyped because it's the most starcraft-like RTS at the moment, and they have big things like 6 hours on cinematics in a replayable campaign and Galactic warfare also appealing to the 4x RTS audience

Despite all of that, I still enjoyed Zerospace more than stormgate, mainly because of the visuals. My main RTS game atm is very old and has terrible pathing so I'm not so bothered with the gameplay not being smooth and balance can come later. One thing though, I knew that I would enjoy playing Zerospace the first time I see the gameplay was shown last year, contrary to Stormgate when I first see its gameplay video.

Any idea how difficult it is to balance 4 unique factions? 3 factions is plenty already, plus there are the mercenary factions, 5 of them if Im not mistaken, with their own unique troops and heroes. That adds plenty of variation, enough to avoid mirror matches.

There are already 3 main factions and 5 mercenary factions (with different extra units and abilities), which gives you basically 15 different options! (and this doesn't even consider you can choose between usually 4 heroes, which mainly affects the way you play your early game). On release, the plan is to have 4 main faction and 7 mercenary faction - so 28 options! I guess you might have been talking about the galactic war, which currently only has 2 factions (Vynthra and Mera), but this will surely be expanded. My guess is there will be at least 2 heroes per main faction (so 8+) with different units and abilities on release.

It's more hero focused. SG only has heroes in PvE modes, but ZS has heroes as its core gameplay.

ZeroSpace is generally more micro focused. Most units have some abilities and you can use all of them even when you have a large control group of different units selected (this is a great feature in my opinion that other RTS should learn from, for example AoM retold already did). A lot of the macro side of the game has been simplified (i.e. no workers) to require as little APM as possible. It is also more focused on decisions - before the game (on top of your main faction, you can pick between 5 mercenary factions with different units and abilities, will be 7 on release) and during the game (you level up your faction and choose between talents, also units have alternative upgrades to choose from that lock the other option).
