Good to see the swap happening. The broken water pump bolt is common. Damn aluminum bolts. Interesting to watch all the common issues creep up. Hope you ordered 2 engine mounts, change them in pairs. Good luck troops!

Nice guys!!! The lift is such a joy! I need one for my garage!! Also, try doing an E60 535xi water pump and thermostat on your back. It’s literally almost impossible!! No room for anything. And then had to redo it because I got a leaky thermostat (brand new). Try testing the thermostat for leaks before you install. Mine was leaking from the seal where the 2 halves come together. Leaked by just filling it water from the faucet!!

A bit late. But did you remove tie rods to remove the subframe ? Seems like itll be way easier since you dont have to finesse the subframe around them.

No I didnt. Ive done about 10 of these now. I still wouldnt bother removing the tie rods.

I did inlets today and the rear ones were a pain to install (only took me 3.5 hours but my right hand is chopped up bad) I recommend doing the inlets from the bottom and work your way to the top (after you reinstall the subframe). Lower the car so one person can go underneath to push the rear inlet then another person pull it from the top it will be way easier. Great content keep up the good work!

I didn't think they were that bad. Wd40 as lube, and a bit fiddling did the trick. Hardest part was the torx bits in my opinion.

1:10 BLRN54 says that he does them from the top? Wow. That's something I will see if if I can find out more about. Since I have the XI version of these I would think that might just be the better option to try when the time comes for me to swap them out. Thank you for mentioning this Andrew.
@ZeroTo60Tube2 жыл бұрын
I am yet to see photos of it done from the top. But i imagine if you undid the gear box and the engine mounts you would get the motor over by a few inches.

It would be a good opportunity to do the M3 Control Arm upgrade. Really does sharpen up the handling.

We don't intend to run it daily on that power level though. 580 would be our daily drive output. Also our hp doesn't mean a lot in Australian currency lol. I've tuned cars on your dynos and they make a lot less. But you can sort of get an idea comparing it to US cars on US Dynos.

Not wrong about the RHD aspects. That’s something overlooked in nearly every downpipe video. I found taking the rack off out the steering angle sensor out as it didn’t go back in exactly the same position. That heatshield above the rack is best accessed with a very long extension from the top.

Isn't the coolant in these engines meant to be blue not green?
@ZeroTo60Tube4 жыл бұрын
I have noticed that on USA vids, but the BMWs we have here in Aus all seem to have green (not sure about the F series). The coolant manufacturers here also recommend the green for the N54, when they have the blue stuff available. Im not sure if its a climate thing, we don't really see freezing temps in Australia at all, maybe that comes in to play.

Can a big single turbo fit in a RHD?
@ZeroTo60Tube4 жыл бұрын
It can, but it's, quite tight. There are no off the shelf kits available. But i have seen quite a few. Its quite an expensive setup, about 3-4 times more than these will cost.

Some outlets would’ve been cool. It helps with back pressure on turbos for longevity. But the motor should die before turbos if they are maintained well. And if car is running 650whp
