I've mained Sonic since Brawl. For some reason, he just came naturally to me and I've played every Smash Bros game. I am glad I watched this and learned some additional techniques that I need to practice and try to master using so I can win more often online.

Couple of things from a long time Sonic main for anyone thinking about picking him up. Avoid using up air in combos... it's "bugged" in a sense that the second kick does not connect consitently at all... i'd say less than 50% of the time it does. So at medium percents stick with nair or fair. Now at low percents on heavy characters, feel free to spin dash into up air into a back air and into a possibly other back air depending on the height you got, but again, not consistent when it's smaller or medium characters. Up throw to up air wont kill too often unless they've never seen it, it was a go to move in Smash 4 and isnt so much anymore. Biggest things to learn is b reversal (reverse homing attack) into back kick. Eventually you'll be able to easily spindash, b reverse, into back kick. The MOST advance move is Spring Ride. Its kinda cheese but fun as hell. Learn the percents, but essentially you up throw, jump, and up b as soon as their character is on top of yours. Your spring will come out and take both you and your opponent in the high recovery. Just up air and they are dead off the top. Battlefield it will kill on the top platform starting at 15%. Anyway, im sure no one wanted this, but i dont see a lot of Sonic's online so figured maybe they wanted some technical stuff to try.

Sonic may be physically weak but the majority of his moves can combo making him a more technical fighter. The trick is learning to control his speed. If you flail about your going to leave yourself open. His dash moves are really good hit checks because they let you move fast, control and do damage. They also combo into most of his air moves. Sonic wants to start a combo then knock the opponent into the air and juggle them until they are low enough to take down with a smash or back air.

Good Sonic combos or KOs 1. 3:48 2.Spin dash, then when you hit them jump then A (good at 50 or above) 3. When they are nearly off screen above the stage do a homing attack (good at 70 or above) And that's all I have for now, If they don't work it's likely because of a nerf but I think it isn't

Nice guide! I am going to clarify something about Spin Dash & Spin Charge: Spin Charge is faster than Spin Dash, both to release and to complete the charge. With Spin Dash, you have to wait a set time before it is fully charged, while Spin Charge can be charged based on ‘x’ amount of special presses you make in ‘y’ time. Spin Charge is technically better for combos, bursting, and overall damage output, whereas Spin Dash allows mix up potential despite being slower. Spin Dash also has a very short i-frame window on release, which can eat up some projectiles, landings, and approaches. Keep up the good work though, thanks for making these guides!

I feel like his kit may have been partially tuned back in Brawl to make him the “game clear bonus” for Subspace, as a character who can easily rush thru old stages to help you get 100%, since high launch power isn’t actually very important in that mode. That aside, he’s always been one of my favorite characters both in general terms and in how he plays in smash. Yeah he doesn’t kill fast, but I like having a character who is practically immune to “falling off stage” kills unless your opponent REALLY commits to it

Little help tip: You can combo Sonic's down throw into Spin Charge and then homing attack. Basically: Grab -> Down Throw -> Spin Charge -> Homing Attack It's very good for stacking damage on opponents, getting them off stage, and the Homing Attack can be replaced with an aerial attack. A combo I like to do with Sonic is back throw dash to where they're going to land and quickly hit up Smash...I'm just here because of the slight difference between him on the Wii U and this....like you can't throw people off anymore by hitting the Sheild button during the spin dash and his spin charge. A lot of people hate Sonic’s moveset in smash, and while I do agree that it’s kinda boring, my main issue is his lack of expression. Brawl Sonic didn’t have this problem, as his expressions actually changed, but since Sm4sh, he feels kinda…soulless, and if you don’t know what I’m talking about, look at Brawl Sonic’s idle animation, then look at his Sm4sh or Ultimate idle animation, and the difference is clear as day
