I think the S. Hos is pretty balanced but just because it's so simple. You get bleed that does very little against spies thanks to the decreased debuffs when cloaking but you tale more damage from a class that you won't be near anyway.

I like that concept. It gives meaning to the weapon's name as "hospitality" rather than a bleeding effect that rarely gets useful even if it helps detect spies as the bleeding effect time is reduced by their cloak and that there's already a spy detector in a form of a zap gun.

@@BIGBADAUD99999 Yeah but they might aswell create a new weapon. I think it's better to keep the "Anti-Spy Wrench" idea. Maybe it has an alt fire where Engineer throws an liquid on the ground that creates a cloud that will apply bleed to enemies that walk into it, Gas Passer style, with the drawback that your sentries receive 15% extra damage from explosives and the liquid has an long cooldown. Essentially, being better against one of your counters while being weaker to other counters.

It doesn't seem to matter how many times I watch my own videos before I release them, or have other people check for mistakes, I ALWAYS MISS SOMETHING- Yes, my mic quality is ass for the first 8 minutes, why? I was in the middle of moving while making this video, and had recorded in two different places: the empty closet in my old home, and the now full closet of my new home. 1) 1.01 should be 1.10 when talking about minicrits with the pain train 2) Random black frames come from artifacting in Premiere that I don't know how to fix. 3) I misinterpreted the "dual-type" damage on flare guns- the initial hit counts as fire AND bullet, not bullet, then afterburn. So the southern hospitality does take extra damage from the initial hit. But 20% of 30 is 6, so it's just 6 extra damage- assuming you actually hit him directly. 4) Weapons with passive damage vulnerabilities/resistances ignore crits and minicrits (meaning they don't increase or decrease damage against them). Weapons with vulnerabilities/resistances that are active when the weapon is active do not ignore crits and minicrits. I'm sure other crap will get pointed out that I STILL CAN'T SEE I PRIDE MYSELF ON IMPERFECTION

Southern Hospitality, Engineer is a defense-based support class, what about if it improves the Dispenser is some way? Maybe it could slightly decrease its build cost or increase the heal rate while equipped (so you cant just build a dispenser in Spawn during your rollout and have it be a better dispenser for the rest of the game ala Eureka Effect and teleporter), or if that's a bit too powerful or broken, just increase the dispenser's heal range by a bit. Downside could be an slight vulnerability from all damage, so that way the drawback for increasing the survivability of your team is a decrease in your own survivability.

I think a problem is that the weapon concept itself doesn't relate to dispensers or buildings particularly other than being a wrench. When thinking about the southern hospitality's balancing it needs an overhaul, because there isn't any explicit reason to use it other than stat benefits, meaning it's just default but different. What it needs is a balance or mechanic that involves hitting their buildings or enemies that encourages people to use it for situations where it would be better than pulling out your meat shotting shotgun or pistol etc. Something that would really make people scared of approaching a southern hospitality engie.

I like the bleed effect to track down spies tbh. So how about a 30-60% damage reduction but in turn, 8 dmg per tick for 3-5 seconds while allowing dispensers to heal 20-30% faster

@@Aldestructo idea i just thought of on the spot (might go somewhere, might not): what if instead of the multipliers it has now, maybe hitting your buildings did some sort of effect within a certain radius of that building? maybe it pushes away enemies like airblast and/or inflicts bleed or something? maybe it also reflects projectiles within the radius too, for use against more classes than just spy? it would give the weapon thats already mostly picked for spychecking a more interesting way to counter spy, and maybe some 100 iq strats as well? i dont know what the drawbacks should be but i think this could potentially make for an interesting mechanic if its done properly and balanced well

For Warrior's Spirit I think swapping the damage vulnerability for something like "consecutive swings deal less damage" could be cool, a good finisher and two hitter for 150/125 classes, but not a lawnmower like the KGB. Maybe first it is 85 then 65 then 45 or something like that. To avoid it being a straight upgrade though, maybe make it so the claws need a good amount of time to recharge. I think it would give it an interesting niche!

I prefer the postal pummuler on pyro. So, I've noticed about near the end of the video that zesty doesn't really seem to notice the difference between "on wearer" and "when active". Examples: Powerjack: the stats say "on wearer" for the damage vulnerability. That means no matter if you have the weapon out or not, if it is in your equipped set, the damage vulnerability it applied at all times. Fists of steel: it's two most important stats (in the current situation of bots), "-40% damage from ranged sources" and "+100% damage from melee sources" include the words "When active" at the end of each stat. This means that both the debuff and buff are only applied when the user is holding the weapon out. It also has the stats "-40% maximum overheal" and "-40% health from healers". Theses two stats are followed by the term "On wearer". Like the Powerjack, this means that these two effects are _always_ active, unlike the other two stats which are *only active when the weapon is being used*

I think the Chargin' Targe having absolutely nothing unique to bring to the table aside the highest resistances makes it underwhelming. Sure, it beats out the Tide Turner in resistances, having regular crits, and not having charges stopped by damage, but the Tide Turner also gives 100% control over your turn radius, and most ofyour charge meter refreshes on a melee kill. Sure, the Splendid Screen has slightly lower resistances, but it also replenishes charge meter faster and does *seventy percent* more bash damage. All the Targe has is 30% more burn resistance and 10% more blast resistance compared to the Screen. And while it blows the Tide Turner out of the water in essentially every aspect of what a shield does, the Turner still gives you full turn radius control. And the Turner also gives 75% charge meter on a melee kill *alongside* perfect turn radius control, so the downsides of mini-crits, the lowest resistances, and the Baby-Face Blaster-like meter depleter is almost made up for with those heavily powerful bonuses At some point I think I remember only the Targe snuffing out afterburn when charging, but all shields do this now. The Targe has nothing to differentiate itself from the other shields aside having the highest resistances to blast damage and especially fire damage. Which is ironic considering the Screen is made of metal and is worse at blocking fire than a shield made of wood, but I digress. The Targe needs something to set itself apart from the other shields. Maybe give it some type of Mantreads effect where it reduces the effectiveness of pushback from things like blast damage or airblasts? That would play into it's colossal fire resist and initially unique afterburn-snuff-on-charge effect of being Demoknight's answer to Pyro

I've had this thought for a while, in the topic of the Southern Hospitality; that weapons with the Bleed effect, would greatly benefit from Bleeding being permanent; until healed by a medic (which would make it go away after, say, 3 seconds of being flashed) or reaching a health pack. I don't think any weapons would be broken as a result: -The Southern Hospitality Would be more useful (tho it'd still need a tweak). -The Tribalman's Shiv would finally have a use (in no random crits servers at least). -The Boston Basher would punish harder so maybe that would need tweaking. -The Wrapped Assasin would have a more defined goal. -The Flying Guillotine was a problem because of its damage in combo not because of Bleeding. This would make it so invisibility doesn't diminish its effect, which is often to track the Spy. Hell, it would even be great on Medic melee, since the Spies are often after and close to them, it's not 25% Ubber but it is certainly a dead enemy. Speaking of Medic: the minimum 3 (or so) second duration on being-healed targets, would make it so the healing they receive from their Medics would be reduced. I think it'd be neat.

19:16 so here is the thing they tried having it be an alternative to stock as it does less melee demadge but thats countered by the bleed efect making it so its better then stock, either 1. reduce the swing speed(maybe someone only after hitting an enemy, spy) which will decress dps i terms of swinging at the enemy OR 2.1. it takes longer to go back to your other weapons(shotgun) so you have to risk using it to make people bleed making it a finishing tool 2.2 have it be pulled out slower, it isnt as bad as with other weapons since 90% of the time you willl have it out but it makes it into a defence tool as in you us it at the start of combat to make your enemy panik and to track them also its like am sorry for typos

For the Southern Hospitality, I would either replace or add to the bleed with an increase in damage (Let's say, 15%) with a downside of a slower swing speed (15% as well). With the Demoman sword (I am not gonna try to spell it), it seems to me as a mix of a utility (the longer charge) and last resort (charge on kill) for when you are already basically dead. Reverting it would cause the hybridknights that primarily use a grenade launcher to have a permanent less health for more charge on a weapon they would rarely pull out. Those hybridknights would end up going back to stock for reliability, skullcutter for solid damage with an almost negated downside, or eyelander for being rewarded even more when they get that rare sword kill.

You know, a thought occurs to me. The southern hospitality feels like it was intended as a spychecker wrench, the bleed being something that'd tag an invisible spy and keep him vulnerable. What if instead of a fire damage penalty and the bleed, the hospitality knocks spy disguises off but also makes spy decloaking harder to hear for the engineer?

An idea I have to balance the SH is an increase in metal cost. It makes it harder to get to the max building levels, and when it gets up there, he still has options for dealing with classes that try to take them down.

Okay how about this for the Hospitality: it works kinda like a grappling hook. When you hit someone with it, they're stuck to you for a few seconds (blocking your field of vision, natch). This makes it easier to hit them again, although they'll become able to move freely again as soon as you swing but before your second swing connects. This would also make it pretty easy for you to switch to your primary quickly and blow out a couple of that pesky Spy's ribs - or, if they were trying to be fancy and get your own sentry to kill you, quick positioning means you could use them as a human shield to prevent an unfortunate workplace accident. As a downside, maybe give it slower swing speed, so enemies have some actual chance to get away if you're trying to kill them and it's a little more difficult to smack 'em in the first place, or increase incoming melee damage taken while wielding it? A Spy stuck to you could still butterknife you to death if you're not quick to act. It's a pretty rough idea but I think at least it's a little more tactically interesting than "urrrr it sharp" and I think it's a pretty fun twist on the name (welcome to Texas, bitch, you can't leave!).

19:15 If I were to rework the southern hospitality, I would do away with the fire vulnerability & the bleed on hit, instead having the upsides of inflicting bleeding to enemies (including cloaked & disguised spies) within range of your dispenser, as well as increased dispenser range, and the downsides of an increased metal cost for placing dispensers, slightly decreased dispenser health & no random critical hits.

As an expert in resistances (by that I mean someone who's spent more than 5 minutes to think about the matter) I felt like there were a few points you could have added as well: 1: Stacking resistances always makes both resistances less effective, for example chargin targe + vaccinator against a grenade pill, the vaccinator would only take the 70 damage and reduce it by 7 instead of the normal 10. 2: However, this next point counteracts the former as resistances reach higher values since due to how resistances work, effective health increases exponentially as the percentage tends to 100%. This is explained by how with 100% resistance, someone's health is infinite. If someone had 100 hp, adding 5% to 25% resistance (30%) would go from 133.3 hp to 143 hp, but adding 5% to 94% resistance (99%) would go from 1,666.7 hp to 10,000 hp. Ergo, large percentages of resistances are WAY more effective than smaller resistances. Sure, this effect is only noticeable with big resistances like fists of steel, battalion's backup and vaccinator uber, but it is still very significant.

correction at 8:54 - 50 x 1.1 = 55, 50 x 1.01 would be 50.5, as multiplying something by 1.01 is equivalent to adding 1/100 to that number, which in this case is 0.05. hopefully this didn't sound snarky, i just wanted to help out a bit

You know what I think would make the Southern Hospitality more interesting? Its upside should be a cheaper repair cost on buildings (maybe a 4-to-1 or 5-to-1 health-to-metal ratio instead of the current 3-to-1) but a lower maximum repair amount per swing (maybe 15-20% less than the current 105/swing, meaning 89-84 health per hit). This would make the user much more metal efficient and significantly reduce the effects of random spam, but would hurt them greatly when trying to turtle and force them to relocate their buildings instead of tanking them. It might be a nice option for the more passive Engineers out there, and without the ability to turtle would be much less oppressive to fight than an Engineer running the stock wrench.

So about the Claidheamh Mor; The Claidheamh Mor is designed more as a secondary weapon than a primary. The main purposes of the weapon as it stands are three fold: 1) Charging from somewhere a demoknight shouldn't be able to charge from; 2) Finishing kills on enemies that would otherwise get away as they are too far; and 2) Insane mobility when used in combination with the Tide Turner. If the downside is reverted, you will be encouraged to use the weapon more often than not to make sure you actually get use out of it. But that's not what it's meant for; it's designed to deter constant use, and instead be more of a utility and cleanup weapon. When using it as utility, you aren't in combat, or you're making your way to the fight; when using it as cleanup, you're simply securing an already won fight. Reducing max health makes it harder to use the weapon for what it was designed, where as adding a damage vulnerability instead encourages you to use it for that intended waywhile also balancing the upsides. Truth be told, it's one of, if not the, best hybrid knight weapon because it's SO GOD DAMN GOOD at cleaning up kills and getting you to the fight. Hybrid knights tend to use their pipes more anyway. All of your points about the other weapons were good though; that one just caught a nerve. Good video!

Damn Straight. Hybrid Knight takes skill and when you take into effect the Vulnerability is gone when you have any other weapon out, you can use the Claidheamh Mor, Tide-Turner, and Grenade Launcher/Iron Bomber together for a more aggressive Demoman gameplay. Good luck trying to get away from him.

Candy Cane seems fine to me. I don't consider myself to be in the upper echelon of scout players, but I know how to play the game. There are many occasions that I suffer from the downside of the weapon, but I still live long enough to reap the benefits. If newer players are deterred from using a weapon just because it looks intimidating, that's fine. There's a place in the game for weapons like that. While it rewards not getting hit, getting hit is an inevitability. Even from explosive weapons.

An idea I had for the Southern Hospitality was to make it more teamwork-centric: it would improve Dispenser range with every level and allow you to heal the buildings of other Engineers more per hit (and possibly still including the Bleed on hit with an extended duration), at the cost that *all* of _your_ buildings would cost a bit more to repair, regardless of who’s repairing it (more metal consumed on hit), and your Dispenser would ALSO cost a bit more to both *build* _and _*_upgrade_* (and, if Bleed-on-hit is retained, lessened Wrench damage). Takes the “Hospitality” theme to a bit of an extreme, making it easier for you to assist your allies, but sacrificing your own stability and requiring a bit _more_ help from your teammates in return. *[EDIT]* The fire damage vulnerability would just be scrapped altogether.

The southern Hospitality is a wrench. My idea for balancing it out, (despite me never using it much) is either the engineer takes 10% extra damage from bullets or his buildings take an extra 10% damage. Reasoning: the southern hospitality has the bleed effect to “deter” spies so it eliminates one method of attack and the other method of attack is more important to focus on, aka the frontlines. This means that a well co-ordinated team with say a sniper and a Heavy could eliminate the sentry and allow the other classes to focus on the objective. (I know this isn’t perfect but I tried)

The thing is, it’s not actually too good at deterring spies, because of the passive debuff reduction from cloaking. You end up not having a lot of time to look for the cloak flicker, and unless you’ve got a good enough eye to find and apply the next hit.

Claymore’s vulnerability is meant to offset its old max HP, but the value was increased since hybrid knights can use it easily Most weapons with vulnerabilities on them are hard to use for the simple fact that it becomes hard to judge your own survivability, causing you to overextend - Or in the Candy Cane’s case, instantly die for doing something you are kind of expected to do.

I got a strange Southern Hospitality with pumpkin bombs for next to nothing. Threw on posthumous kills and cloaked spies killed and it was money well spent. I mean, yeah, the random crits on the regular wrench actually make it better for clubbing spies, but watching them try to get away with the bleeding is just so enjoyable.

The crit part is pretty much why crit resist is so important in MvM. The upgrade is not only cheap but also reduce the biggest chunk of damage crit robots deal.
