This is by far the best description of elder scrolls lore. It breaks the difficult concepts down into easily understandable examples, as well as the use of diagrams to help explain what happened. Also the fact that you're not 17 years old or younger, sound like a stoner, or keep tripping over your own words helps understand things a TON.

It's like how some Americans think that Satan put fossils in the ground to trick people into thinking the Earth is billions of years old instead of a few thousand. Maybe the patterns in space just look like a galaxy but is actually just an incidental design left over from the spirits following Magnus out of Mundus. I like to think that there are two ways to interpret Elder Scrolls lore, one is to take it as it is literally, or assume they are actually a planet orbiting a star in a galaxy somewhere and these are just their myths the same way there are many creation myths on Earth

I haven't seen this interpretation of auri-el, akatosh and alduïn before, but I like it a lot. time is often described to have begun with auri-el or akatosh, witch could be an easy mistranslation, while on the other en alduïn is described as "world eater". they are all the same in origin, but are separate now.

MHWdJ what? explain? Im still new to lore
@MHWdJ8 жыл бұрын
Shaq And A Rat what part needs explaining? Elderscrolls lore is exrremely complex. not only is there a lotbof it, it also tends to contradict itself. incase you don't know: akatosh is the time god and primery god of the imperial pantheon. Auri-el is also a time god and the primary god of the elven pantheon. AND, most notably, their ancestor. alduin is considered a time ending god, and appears in ancient nordic pantheon (although I think some other pantheon mentions him or something like him too) the three are often mistakingly considered one and the same by mortals in this universe.
@ryuxay8 жыл бұрын
MHWdJ so theyre seprate,.I know alduin is for sure. But in video he didnt talk about akatosh, which confused me a bit. Isnt akatosh a planet too?
@MHWdJ8 жыл бұрын
Shaq And A Rat all of the original 8 devines are said to be planets. So that would include akatosh yes. I'm not sure if the ninth (talos) has a planet though. he technically already has the moons. those moons are the remnents of lohrkan, who's place he took in the pantheon. (sorry, this last bit had little to do with your question) akatosh, alduin and auri-el are sepperate, but could be 3 aspects of the same being. They atleast have some relation: they have a purpose to do with time. but I'm getting speculative at this point.

Being a year late to the party is fashionable right? Anyways, I'm wondering what the agency of Daedra are in reference to Lorkhan himself. Are all daedra created from Sithis or is this an ambiguous thing that we don't have solid proof to determine? Do they like him, know him to be an indirect creator of them? Are Daedra nothing more than a namesake? And finally does this make kyne less aedric and more daedric?
@JudisFeggutGhost8 жыл бұрын
Alright, so its more a mortal categorical namesake invented by elves to simplify religion, got it. I'm still interested on the moral agency of Kyne then, since shes married to sithis's third essence cousin thing. This makes her more like the night mother than any other god.
@grantwalter22437 жыл бұрын
JudisFeggutGhost daedra comes from the Altmer language meaning "not ancestor" because aedra meant ancestor. Daedra are the beings that didnt take part in the creation of Mundus. Why there is ao little i do not know. But i think that all the weaker daedra (atronachs, scamps, dremora etc.) were the supposedly "countless" spirits that didnt help woth the creation of Mundus and the Daedric Princes were the spirits to first gain that "awareness" that this guy talks about. I dont know which Daedra and Aedra spefically came from Lorkhan or Auriel, but i think the ones in Oblivion who command their planes govern space and so they probably came from Lorkhan. And they most likely did since it was Lorkhans plan to trick the other spirits into making Nirn and his followers didnt help much.

But if Alduin is just a shard of Aka like Auri-El and Akatosh, why does he so proudly mention to be the firstborn of Akatosh? How does that make sense?
@jmdb78956 жыл бұрын
About the beginning of all things, I have always understood it like this: In the beginning, there was a cosmic mind (The Skaal's All-maker, or the void, according to other mythologies, or the godhead, according to OOG). This cosmic mind has always known everything, and has the potential to use that information to freely choose to do something with it. At some point, this mind decided to take this information that has permanently existed in it (this information in some myths is called ANU) and by exercising its free will (what some call PADOMAY in some myths), decided to use it to create something (the Aurbis ). That is, the whole "anu" and "padomay" issue is a figure of speech that tries to describe a mental dynamic within the godhead. The result of the above is the creation of Aurbis, where the most fundamental pieces are time (called Anui-el) and space (called Sithis). The first thinking beings created by this cosmic mind were Aka (the deity who has dominion over time) and Lorkhan (the deity who has dominion over space), and through them, the other original spirits were emerging.

I commented on your last lore video. Lightly put, I had some problems with it. I genuinely liked this one. The nuances you've brought in and explained are really nice to see in a KZbin lore vid that doesn't ramble. That said... d00d. Quit with the MK hate. Hahahaha. 90% of the stuff you draw from, with no problem, is his writing. The Towers are REALLY important. Like, that's THE way for the Elves to ascend, which you mentioned. Things I hope to see with future videos: 1. Furthered conversation about Aldmeris as a shared place in metaphysical memory that links all elves. Something like a place among infinity that they Walked to Tamriel from as they descended to mortality. 2. A lickle bit about Y'ffre and his/her existence in the Valenwood (am curious to see what you think of it)

+Evan Smith I didn't realize you commented already and one of your things you said was one of my things i said. Further evidence of the Enantiomorph. Ada-Mantia as the point of Convention, Red-Heart as the Tower of Lorkhan's Heart, and the ascension of Auriel in front of the Aldmer. With that said, I can understand how you would leave it out of a creation story and then reference this video later when you bring it up.

Nice vid. Just have one question: Did the concept that all humans and animals and plants come from the Ehlnofey help create the shamanist/animistic religion of the ancient Nords, as is seen in the Skaal, as well as the Dragon Cult (which spawned from their animistic beliefs)?
@BurgerFred19 жыл бұрын
What about the Skaal, though? To me (my headcanon) the Skaal on Solstheim are the purest preservation of old Nordic religion, since they were not at all affected by the polytheistic beliefs of the elves because of their isolation on Solstheim. These animistic concepts were present in Bloodmoon, showing that it wasn't entirely to create a puzzle system in ES V (although it could have possibly been Flanderized to meet their desires). EDIT: He kinda answered my question about the Skaal before I could respond. But I would still kinda like to know more about the relation between these beliefs and the creation of the Dragon Cult.

The God's Tale: The God-Serpent: I will start this post by explaining the origin of existence in TES cosmology and the single being responsible for it, this being doesn't act directly within the TES series but is nonetheless extremely important due to being the foundation of the world. the gods and every single bit of metaphysics in the series (like mantling). This creator is the supreme being of the Elder Scrolls series and goes by many names some of which are: The One, the egg, The All-Maker, The Dreamer, Void, Satakal or Satakel the World-Serpent (this one is my personnal favorite), but it's mostly referred to as the Godhead. Still it would be wrong to think of this being as a deliberate creator like the Christian God, Satakel bears more similarities to Azathoth or the Lord of Nightmares than it does to Yahweh in that it's creation of the world was not all that deliberate. Here's a passage from Satakal the World-skin, the Yokudan creation myth of the in-game book the monomyth (seen in Skyrim, , Morrowind and TESO): "Satak was First Serpent, the Snake who came Before, and all the worlds to come rested in the glimmer of its scales. But it was so big there was nothing but, and thus it was coiled around and around itself, and the worlds to come slid across each other but none had room to breathe or even be" Anu and Padomay are one of the survivors of the original 12 worlds of creation?

Second time I watched this, so its a technicality question.. what about the Daedra? Where do they fit in to all of this? Are they part of Mundus or just the Oblivion, are they tied to the cyclical nature of the worlds reset button or do they remember each and every world that was? How come they can even enter the Mundus if they had no part in creating it and why can they influence it? And if the escaping Aedra tore holes through Oblivion to enter Aetherius, didn't that aversely affect Oblivion to? Why did the lesser daedra form like the Enhlofey did with the difference of mortality? And if there are whole worlds and dimensions in Oblivion with their own rules and laws then why didn't the original aedra do the same? Must have been easier to just have your own world just as big and populated as Mundus without sacrificing your self in the process of creating it?
@RustedBuddy51928 жыл бұрын
Yeah he doesnt seem to talk about the Daedra too much, which I think is important even if they werent very active. From what I understand the Daedra didnt DO anything to create Mundus, which is why he skipped over it Im assuming, and are not bound by the laws of Mundus because of it. Like Umaril, when Daedra die in Mundus their spiritual essence goes back to their plane of oblivion. The only way to kill a Daedra is to kill them in their plane... Thats just what I understand though. Sorry I couldnt answer all of your questions.
@Geraduss8 жыл бұрын
Well as far as I know you CAN'T kill a Daedra period, even in the realms of oblivion they'll just reform again over time. The drawback of that is that they absolutely can't reproduce there is a finite "Energy" in oblivion that can't be added or retracted from.

Even ignoring the Nu-Mantia Intercept, I think you're being inconsistent here. The Empire certainly held that Aldmeris never existed, however, I have never come across any such beliefs or propaganda regarding Yokuda, Atmora or Akavir. I'm curious regarding your source on these latter elements, as I've never seen that viewpoint be pushed before. I mean, Yokuda and Akavir *demonstrably* exist at least, if by no other fact than by that there was military contact with them withi the scope of written history. The Third Empire even went on to counter-invade Akavir, if I recall correctly (to disastrous result, but still). As for the Towers being more sci-fi than fantasy, I must admit I've never thought of that before, but that's a matter of taste I suppose. Personally, I think they explain rather a lot, so I like to include that into my own interpretation of the canon.

All the NPC's talk about "The bustling beautiful City of Whiterun". One thing i find funny about that title, is "CITY". When you think of City you think of a place like London, with 8 million people in it. Or smaller ones like where I';m from, with 50 thousand people in it. In the "City" of Whiterun, there's 19 buildings total lol. That in normal terms would be considered roughly the size of a roadside rest stop!

Things like that I take as unreliable memory. Like how some people explain fast travel as how when you go to work or school over and over sometimes you drive and get there and don't even remember the trip. Towns being portrayed as smaller in game could be taken as the in game character just not noticing everything and only latching onto some specific people, places, and things.

okay, a few questions. one: i've heard some talk about this"godhead" or "dreamer" theory. stating that there is a One True God in TES lore that made Anu and Padomey within his own dream and pulls the "real" strings of fate for all beings, is there any credit to this theory? or is this just another person's CODA or headcanon? two: another theory(often used alongside the godhead theory) says that Anu and Padomey have awareness and will, just like the lesser souls of Auri-El and Lorkahn. does this theory have any credibility? and three: the last of the three theories that are used together is the Amaranth theory of breaking out of the godhead or dreamer's dream and going to the "real world". often called the second state after CHIM that only Anu achieved, leaving behind his soul fragment in the Aurbus. what are your thoughts on these theories?
@SparksFly-vr4jm8 жыл бұрын
Zaric Zhakaron got it, it's more or less just like a lot of the other lore theories, it's not at all proven or canon, but has some credibility due to it's author. no real one objective truth. at least it makes making backstories for my characters fun. anyways i'll not ramble, thank you for replying.

I don't really get the Divive Interplay. Why would things first be arranged by order? Anu being the stasis and permanency makes sence because it is the first what ever and all it knows what to do is just that exist, then comes chaos, Padomay. Why directly after this would come order? In my view, order is the product of an scient being confronting chaos and needing to make sence out of it, so he arranges chaotic things according to a order. So in my view after existence, Anu, and chaos, Padomay you need concience and only then you would have order... Also, just for the sake of undertanding. It is only in Nirn where the concepts of time and space take effect together (are they the "super powers" of Auri-El and Lorkhan?) and that is why the spirits began to die?
@liampovey69423 жыл бұрын
I know, a year late but I just read your comment. Anu is order and stasis. It's the same thing. And yes linear time and limited space only exist in Nirn but they are the super powers of Aka and Lorkhan, not Auriel

Pretty fascinating no? Auri-El ascended to godhood. Later Talos performed the same feat. A lower being in Aldmer eyes. Auri-El represents light. Lorkhan represents darkness. Yet watchng this it is so hard to tell wich is Good or Evil. While all they really are is 2 different sides holding different views constantly challenging eachothers guts. Just like real life. Peace or Chaos. Both become dull eventually as what all really want is change....and then change it again.

I'm so confused, this is the forth time watching this video, yet I still don't understand why Aka doesn't exist in our timeline. Is it an effect of a Dragonbreak? What exactly caused Auri-el to take the place of Aka?
@willthevill55005 жыл бұрын
What caused aka’s break was the fact that the concept of time was meant to be limitless yet lorkhan’s creation of Mundus allowed for time to be limited therefore creating a reality breaking contradiction that shattered Aka altogether

The idea is that this whole series of events: Creation then destruction of the world via Alduin has been repeated innumerable times.
@grantwalter22434 жыл бұрын
@@OdaManjiro when does it start? With the first 2 beings or somewhere else down the line? thats what I really doint get. Because there is a theory that it all happens on the continents of Tamriel. It happened to the contintent where the redguard came from and tamriel is next. That doesnt make sense because their arent infinte continents and time obviously still flows on Akavir.
@OdaManjiro4 жыл бұрын
@@grantwalter2243 I'd say it ends with a serpent/dragon god ending all creation and then everything begins again with Anu & Padomei. I don't personally believe in the idea that the continents of Yokuda and Akavir are different time periods. Yokuda still exists as a chain of small islands in the western ocean, and Uriel V traveled to Akavir.

Your commentary does not address the alternate narrative that Lorkhan actually made his own sacrifice for Nirn by removing his heart from his chest at the Convention. You also don't mention that the heart of Lorkhan imbued Nirn itself with a measure of divinity.

***** You hate that the Gods actually exist and interfere in that world? Maybe fantasy isn't for you?
@umwha8 жыл бұрын
You dont have to like every aspect of fantasy, and literal gods arent in all fantasy worlds. The A Song of Ice and Fire-verse, for instance, manages to be high fantasy and highly realistic at the same time. It is even ambivalent on the existence of gods.
@mrmiffmiff8 жыл бұрын
***** If you think A Song of Ice and Fire is high fantasy, you have another thing coming. It's mid-fantasy, at most; the double-edged magic and dragons provide exceptions to that fact, but it is very much not high fantasy. Regardless, The Elder Scrolls is not merely fantasy, it's post-modern science fantasy that takes place in the figurative dream of a comatose Godhead; I can understand your criticism but I don't really understand why you hate it. I think it does everything really well, especially when it comes to religion. Case in point: the religious conflicts in Morrowind (during the time of the game of the same name). The various gods (Aedra, Daedra, former mortals, etc.) make for something very interesting and it's even more interesting, in my opinion, that they actually exist.

I don't understand how the tale of the nine divines ties into this one please somebody explain
@willthevill55005 жыл бұрын
The eight divines were one of the cosmic beings that came to Mundus due to Lorkhan’s trickery and had their divinity sapped and becoming lesser divine beings. But it’s the sapping of their divinity that allowed Mundus and mortals to be, therefore they’re revered as gods despite it not being known whether they purposefully gave their divinity or they were tricked into having their divinity stolen from them. The eight divines ascended leaving nirn and creating their own planets which they inhabit(still within Mundus, they are trapped here) The ninth divine, talos, came later when he captured all of Tamriel and Akatosh rewarded him with divinity and talos then ascended as well becoming a divine being
