what does the follow focus do?? i use a canon m50 and the big wheel works for me. i just got my crane 2 and have not installed the follow focus yet. how is it beneficial aside from i guess a smoother job at pulling focus and setting start/stop points?? Also i am looking into firmware upgrades because for some reason i can connect to my crane via the app but i cant see my cameras screen, i can move the gimbal via the app. I only see my cell phone camera when i change it to phone.

On mine, when I browse to the .ptz file for 1.77 it seems to see it just fine and populates the table properly, but both the Ppen and Update buttons remain grayed out.

Hi, Please help. Single click on trigger button doesn't take me to F mode. I did single click from all other modes but it never took me to F mode. I cant go to F mode at all !!. As given in manual, Long press on trigger button activates F mode and it goes back to previous mode upon releasing the trigger. The firmware version is 2.02 upgraded on 27 June 2020, The Gimbal is purchased in January 2020.. Please help to solve the problem. How to go to F mode.

I am trying to update the firmware on the servo. I have read that I plug my computer into the SERVO itself (only ever had luck plugging it in to the port that is supposedly meant for cameras [the camera icon is right next to this port], otherwise my computer simply doesnt recognize the servo.). I select the servo firmware update v 1.70 that I jumped through several flaming hoops to locate (why doesnt Zhiyun list it with all the other product firmware updates?), click "open" within the zhiyun tools app and then click upgrade (be sure to switch the servo into upgrade mode and also be holding the POWER button the entire time otherwise it will "close" the serial port. It upgrades and then says to turn on the GIMBAL to finish updating. I turn on the gimbal and NOTHING HAPPENS. The user manual says to get an update going you must (after turning on the gimbal - after plugging it into the computer) "long press" the mode button to enter standby mode (WHAT THE FUCK? "LONG PRESS"?). I do this and all it does is swap once from PF to L, and then back to PF, no matter how long I hold it. The gimbal works fine and I dont understand why I even need to fuss with it to update the servo firmware. The issue I'm having with the servo is that even though I can "set" the A/B points, they dont actually appear to be working; the follow focus moves right past the A/B points, and since I'm using a physical focus lens when it reaches the end of the range on either side there is a violent jolt and hideous grating/clicking noise. Every video Ive watched of people trying to explain how to update the gimbal software glosses over this standby mode that i need to long press the mode button to enter; is it simply not necessary? surely not because i havent been able to get the gimbal to show "upgrade" on the handle display. This is a fucking ridiculously poorly designed product and if i hadnt bought it second-hand I would have returned it by now already (and before you ask, no, the previous owner didnt break it, they barely even used it more than a handful of times.) Why are there no videos walking through the process of updating the servo software? and why do none of the videos you guys have made mention whether or not entering standby mode on the gimbal itself is actually necessary?

If you need to update the servo, you can plug the servo to the computer usb directly. Only when you update the gimbal then you need to plug the gimbal to the computer. If you still meet the issues, feel free to contact [e-mail] for diagnosis

Hi Zhiyun, I'm interested in your Crane 2. But I would like a real useful function to me in the app: I would like to put into memory some fixed positions and then recall them pressing a button. For example, let's say I press button A and the Crane2 looks at person1, i press button B and Crane2 moves immediately to look at person 2 and so on. (Of course not like a timelapse slow movement...) It should not be difficult: I saw there is just the Restore button to put the crane at default position. You must only create the possibility to memorize some other positions to recall them with buttons! Thank you, please do this!!

My "Crane 2 Servo follow focus CMF-01" is failed to start. When I connect it to computer via micro usb cable to upgrade firmware, I browsed to version 1.77 of gimbal Crane 2, instead of version 1.71 for the Follow Focus (I was confused). Then it turned off automatically, and I could not turn it on. When I reconnect it to the computer, there is message: "The last USB device you connected to this computer malfunctioned, and Windows does not recognize it". It did not work after all. i've a problem to update the servo. i run the zhiyun gimbal tool ,firmware upgrade menu,patch the firmware update 1.70,connect the servo ,i press open and update.. it seems works (and i can see the info device - EXT , Hardware 0742 , Firmware 655.35) but after the installation the leds on servo change on Yellow color and it doesn't avaible on the menu app,and if i hold press on the power button of the servo the leds turn on blu color and the device appears on the app menu (firmware 1,70) ,if i relase it the led goes again in yellow color. now i disconnect the usb /miniusb cable and i reconnect to see the update status..but it's again the old version on servo..655.35 i guess that the upgrade was not go very well .. can you help me?

How do you check the firmware of the servo ? The AB point doesn't work for me. I'm on 1.73 on the handle, and just receive the Servo. I tried to update to servo 1.70, but cannot confirm if it success or not (AB point doesn't work) Edit : just found out ! I just updated it alone (usb cable connected to cam port and PC). Now AB point works.

you may have double clicked on the tool icon. Instead right click on the tool icon or click pressing 'control' button on the keyboard. And then select 'open'. It should help. Hopefully :)

Updating my crane 2 system to version 1.73 via imac doesn't work as the downloaded calibrationtool is for version 1.3.4 only.The update button stays greyed out. Wonder when I will be able to do so. Also tracking with ZYplay on my samsung S5Neo doesn't work either. the crane2 follows her own intuition as if it is a circus artist. hum, interesting stuff.

I was having the same issue (upgrade button greyed out) on my macbook pro, but also lost my original cable, so I was blaming the cable. After reading your comment, I tried on a Win10 Desktop with the same cable and it was immediately recognized. My Crane2 is updated now and using the Sony cable my A7iii at least records and stops now.

The gimbal update is a breeze.. what is not a breeze is trying to get the 'a and b point' function to actually work so that you can stop the servo focus from hitting the hard stops at each end of the focus range, pretty darn important. Is there a firmware update for the servo follow focus device itself, or does the a and b point feature just not work at all?

I'm having the same problem as well. The Crane 2 is upgraded to the latest firmware as of this writing (1.7.3). I'm guessing the servo motor itself needs a firmware upgrade, but the firmware is nowhere to be found on their website... AB point settings are there, but it just doesn't stop the motor from over turning.

Yeah it works! It is a bit of fussing around but you have to go into the accessories folder in the google drive, download it and follow the instructions on the manual that comes with the servo follow focus. Make sure you plug the micro usb cable into the correct point on the follow focus or else it won't work. Once you get the firmware working the follow focus works flipping awesome. The a, b point function makes such a difference. Good luck!

Make sure the firmware has been updated to latest and set the manufacturer to Sony. Turn on the gimbal first and then the camera.

My follow focus wheel doesnt turn. I have crane 2 upgraded to firmware 1.77 but my folow focus only flashes yellow 4 times. But no wheel turn :(

Hi zhiyun! I purchased a crane 2 off of amazon and it was supposed to come with the servo follow focus, but it didn’t. And when I tried to talk to amazon customer service about it they said I had to return the item and go through the ordering process again and the new one “SHOULD” come with the follow focus. When the focus motor connected with Crane 2, to press gimbal Menu---Camera--Sony---On---Save, so that the Crane 2 will provide the power for the follow focus motor.

I try to get the servo follow focus ABpoint function working since three days. I tried out many different possibilities of updating the focus firmware, but all was without success. Sometimes the Gimbal Tools show me Firmware 1.70 in device info, sometimes 655.35 - I'm totally confused! What about publishing a structured manual of how to handle all this updating stuff? If I want to update just the servo, do I have to connect gimbal and servo? Do I have to turn the gimbal on, off or in standby mode? The Crane 2 itself is a phantastic tool, but without a working a-b-point function it is not what I need. If there is no solution for the problem, I will return it to the seller and look for an alternative product.

Updated my Crane 2 firmware, connected the right cables, charged the servo ff. The gimbal reads a connection, yet the wheel is unresponsive! I downloaded the tools update for my mac but it's not able to open to update it. I've updated the Crane 2 to the latest firmware successfully. Also, I'm not clear on how the cables need to be plugged in when using the servo focus. Thanks

I did it and it worked, but sometimes my sony says "USB connection " i can use the crane 2. In the other hand, It stop working, the body of crane2 turns around so bad ...do you know what happened??

Make sure the firmware has been updated successfully and choose the right manufacturer. The power-on order should be: 1.gimbal 2.Camera. If there is still an issue, please record a video of it and send to [e-mail]. Sorry for the inconvenience caused.

My crane 2 says v1.75? Should I "upgrade" with 1.73?

@@ZhiyunTechGlobal thank you for the reply! What's the best settings for fast movement. I set my pan control rate to 100/s. But when I stop the movement it keeps moving just a little. How do I decrease this to where it stops alot faster after letting go of the joystick

@@ZhiyunTechGlobal well if based off habits and trying, I'll just have to anticipate when I want to stop based on the movement. I was just wondering if there was a way to inscrease the control speed of the joystick, while being able to set a setting to stop the movement quicker after you release joystick. Right now after you let go, and have the control rate high, it will slowly stop panning, but still moves like 90° in the direction you were going. I just bought the crane and I am very unfamiliar with it

Found this video after half an hour of looking on the internet what to do with that .ptz file, no info on the download page, video doesn't talk about COM3 COM4 stuff and I have no idea about those as the device is not detected. Horrible UX guys, I don't even care if your thing works or not.

That's why I decided in favor of another brand. There's no reason to pay extra for an useless focus wheel, at least in my case, not a Canon user.

The mechanical servo follow focus is included in the set when you buy a Crane 2 now. And this servo, which is controlled by the wheel, can adjust the lens mechanically
