Love Singapore fried rice, never realised it was just a version of Nasi Goreng. The guy I worked for used a jar (with a red label) of "black stuff," no clue what it was but it was strong in chilli, stank the place out, coughing fits all round.

I made this tonight from the recipe in the cookbook, but that version doesn't have garlic in it. It was lovely though-I'm not good with very hot flavours, but the Eastern Star powder is full of flavour but not overpowering. I found a pack of those microwavable individual portion bags of sweetcorn, peas and carrots and they were just perfect in it

I bought some from my nearest takeaway last week and it had hoi-sin in it for some odd reason. Was overpowering. Everything else was lush, I just don't understand why they ruin, what should be a signature dish, with such a powerful flavour. I'll definitely bring it up when I next see Mr Lao.

I use rehydrated garlic granules a lot in my cooking. I was always buying a clove, using two or three bulbs and throwing the rest out. And I always found minced or crushed garlic in a jar has a nasty taste to it that goes through your food.
@mabinogidrws3 жыл бұрын
I buy bulk garlic, crush it and freeze it in icecube trays. And ginger, onion, peppers, etc. Guess it depends on how big your freezer is though.
@darren_anscombe3 жыл бұрын
@@mabinogidrws same here, string of 10 garlic bulbs done in one go but I also make Indian dishes that require a 50/50 mix of garlic and ginger paste. Problem is I can never remember which is which in the freezer ! Keeps it interesting though nomnom
